Chapter 33: She Wants to Come Home with Me

Creak—

"Ahem, Mom, I'm back."

"Back already? Has Xiao Ya been successfully enrolled?"

Huo Yun'er, sitting on the sofa reading, instinctively turned her head. But the words in her throat froze the moment she saw the girl standing behind Huo Yuhao.

Another one!?

Huo Yun'er was dumbfounded. She had only brought back Tang Ya before, fine. But now, after sending her off to school and going on a short trip, he came back with an even more beautiful girl?

Is my son really that popular?

Overwhelmed by the shocking efficiency with which her son attracted girls, Huo Yun'er's emotions were a tangled mix.

If she were to admit it, she was certainly happy.

Yet, for some reason, she couldn't shake the feeling that this girl carried an indescribable aura of distinction. Though she appeared calm and serene, as if she cared little for the world, Huo Yun'er sensed a subtle undercurrent of dominance within her.

She didn't know this girl, but she knew her own son!

Could Xiao Yuhao really handle this girl?

Ah, forget it. Why should I worry? Each generation has its own fortune.

Watching her mother's expression constantly shift, Huo Yuhao knew she was silently thinking he had committed some transgression.

But this time, it really wasn't his invitation! She had chosen to come home with him, and at his cultivation level, he couldn't stop her anyway.

An awkward expression crossed his face. Clearing his throat lightly, he turned sideways to introduce them.

"Mom, this is Gu Yuena. Um… her situation is similar to Xiao Ya's. She'll probably be staying with us from now on."

After a brief explanation, Huo Yuhao looked at Gu Yuena.

"And this is my mother, Huo Yun'er."

Gu Yuena glanced at Huo Yun'er, a rare flicker of surprise in her eyes. She hadn't expected that the mother of Huo Yuhao—once a deity—would be nothing more than an ordinary woman without even spirit power.

"Hello, young lady. Welcome."

Huo Yun'er's greeting brought Gu Yuena back to her senses. With a flip of her hand, a six-sided pendant appeared in her palm, crystal-clear and glimmering faintly with a silver light. She extended it toward Huo Yun'er, who stared in surprise.

"For me?"

Gu Yuena nodded. Huo Yun'er instinctively waved her hand, about to refuse.

"No, no, there's no need. Guests shouldn't give gifts."

"This is my payment for staying here," Gu Yuena replied calmly, pushing the pendant slightly forward as if stating a simple fact.

Before Huo Yun'er could protest further, Huo Yuhao spoke.

"Mom, it's fine. Just accept it."

Huo Yun'er gave him a disapproving glare but didn't argue further. She smiled and reached out to take the pendant.

The moment she held it, a cool sensation spread through her hand. Huo Yun'er couldn't identify the material, but simply holding it filled her with an inexplicable sense of reassurance. Her eyes widened in surprise, instinctively meeting Gu Yuena's calm gaze.

"Wear it around your neck at all times. Don't take it off."

"All right," Huo Yun'er nodded, still a little dazed. "This must be valuable. Thank you, young lady."

Gu Yuena merely shook her head slightly, while Huo Yuhao took the opportunity to invite her upstairs under the pretense of helping arrange the rooms.

Seeing the last empty room remaining, Huo Yuhao felt a twinge of complexity. He never imagined the second floor of this house would one day be completely occupied. He had only rented it because his mother liked it, and now it was bustling with life.

Once in the room, Huo Yuhao didn't rush to unpack but turned to Gu Yuena, his tone serious.

"Thank you."

"…Seems your experience is broader than I thought."

Huo Yuhao chuckled at the hint of teasing in her voice.

"I'll return it to you."

Because in his past life, Di Tian had given him something similar, Huo Yuhao immediately recognized the pendant—it was a Silver Dragon Reverse Scale.

With this, Huo Yun'er would be under Gu Yuena's protection. As the only current deity-level combatant in the Douluo world, only gods descending from the Divine Realm could now threaten Huo Yun'er's safety.

Watching Huo Yuhao bustling about with bedding and supplies, Gu Yuena's violet eyes blinked curiously.

"Already?"

"Following your advice."

Gu Yuena lowered her head to think for a moment and then shook it.

"I haven't decided yet. I'll owe you for now."

"All right, by the way—"

Huo Yuhao finished making the bed, clapped his hands, and then handed a storage bracelet to Gu Yuena.

"Take this."

Having already demonstrated its use along the way, Huo Yuhao didn't need to explain further. Gu Yuena accepted it, sliding the bracelet over her fair, slender wrist.

"You'll also need a Martial spirit."

"Martial spirit?"

"Yes."

Seeing her hesitation, Huo Yuhao summoned his own Martial Spirit. Golden light shimmered faintly in his eyes, and a purple spirit ring slowly rose from the ground.

"If you could use power without a Martial spirit, it would draw suspicion. With your strength, you might not fear that, but complications would be inevitable."

"Is that so?"

Gu Yuena glanced at the spirit ring beneath Huo Yuhao.

"For someone your age, what's the highest number of rings a human can reach?"

"Uh…"

Huo Yuhao paused. After a moment of thought, he replied,

"…Two rings, I suppose."

Even with innate full spirit power, ascending to a Spirit Grand Master in two years would be incredibly fast—exceptional even among geniuses of major factions. Without the transformation of the Sin of Pride, Huo Yuhao would barely have reached the second ring himself.

As he spoke, two spirit rings slowly materialized beneath Gu Yuena's feet. Their deep purple and black hues caused Huo Yuhao's eyelids to twitch uncontrollably, an inexplicable surge of competitiveness rising in him.

He opened and closed his mouth several times before whispering,

"I… think that's a bit… exaggerated."

Gu Yuena blinked, and the rings shifted again—this time forming two deep purple soul rings. Huo Yuhao didn't comment further.

After finishing the room, he began walking out.

"Rest for now. I'll call you when dinner's ready."

"All right."

With the door closing, the room fell silent. Gu Yuena surveyed the room before moving to the window. Listening to the bustling street below, she held up her hand to examine the storage bracelet Huo Yuhao had given her in the warm glow of the sunset.

"…Not bad."
