Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Healing Potions and Hidden Truths

After Lucas Kane sold all his equipment, he withdrew 1 gold coin, which is 10,000 Orasia Creds, through the trading platform.

He planned to use the remaining money in the game.

Sharpening the knife does not delay the chopping of wood. Next, he needed to quickly kill monsters and level up to improve efficiency so that he could get more equipment and earn more money.

His method was simple: buy healing potions and use them to kill monsters directly!

Although monsters also dropped healing potions, the price of potions was still lower than that of equipment.

Lucas Kane, of course, chose the designated equipment and small bag drops, sold them, and then went to the pharmacy to buy potions.

The pharmacy was located on the east side of Novice Village. It was not a big store and had only one counter. Behind the counter was the owner of the pharmacy.

She was a mature woman with silver skin, above-average looks, and a ponytail.

Several players surrounded the counter, trying various methods to get a task. Lucas Kane laughed inwardly. These people were probably new to the game. The natives here were aloof and wouldn't even pay attention.

A young man came up to the boss with a pitiful expression and tears streaming down his face:

"Boss, I noticed that you look a lot like my deceased mother..."

Before he could finish, the boss slapped him across the face.

Bang!

The young man spun seven and a half times in the air, flew out of the pharmacy, and landed sideways on the ground at the door. His body twitched a few times, then turned into white light and disappeared.

Died on the spot!

"…?"

The players, who had planned to impress the boss, almost popped their eyes out.

What the hell?! NPCs could kill players?!

Everyone was exhausted and planned to leave. Don't mess with me!

Just then, a handsome young man walked toward the boss.

It was Lucas Kane.

A young girl nearby saw him and warned, "Little brother, don't go over there. This boss will kill people!"

Lucas Kane smiled: "It's okay."

The onlookers immediately stopped, planning to watch the fun.

"Isn't this kid afraid of death?"

"This game is different from ordinary online games. I suspect these NPCs might be real people—or aliens at that. They have a lot of autonomy!"

"Look at their silver skin. It's nothing like humans from Metastar."

"If this kid angers the boss, he's in trouble."

Meanwhile, Lucas Kane had already arrived in front of the boss. She glanced at him and looked away.

He didn't care. Smiling like a domineering CEO, he slapped two gold coins on the counter.

"Boss, buy some medicine."

The pharmacy fell silent.

Several players stared at the coins, question marks forming over their heads.

The boss's expression changed visibly. Her originally cold and ruthless face softened into a sweet smile:

"Hey, handsome boy, what medicine do you want? How much?"

Players were stunned.

"What?! How is this possible?"

"No, someone just bought medicine before. Why didn't her expression change?"

A middle-aged man's voice almost roared: "Do you see how much money he put down? Two gold coins! That's 20,000 Creds!"

The girl whispered in awe, "Could this be the legendary player with billions in Metastar?"

Even the natives couldn't resist the brilliance of money.

Lucas Kane smiled: "Buy healing potions, 200 bottles."

The potions sold in Novice Village were basic:

[Apprentice Healing Potion (Common)]: Restores 80 HP immediately. Cooldown: 30 seconds.

One bottle nearly restored Lucas Kane's health to full. With 200 bottles, he could fight indefinitely without worrying about endurance.

The boss's smile grew sweeter.

"Okay, handsome boy, that's generous!"

She counted out 200 bottles and 40 silver coins, placing them on the counter.

In the backpack grid, 100 bottles occupy one slot; 200 bottles take two slots.

Lucas Kane put away the potions and coins.

"Boss, since I bought so many things, can I ask a few questions?"

The boss raised an eyebrow, smiling: "Okay, ask, but I may not answer."

Nearby players held their breath, watching him.

"Sure enough, the rich are the boss," whispered one.

"Even aloof natives soften for him," said another.

Lucas Kane nodded: "Boss, first question: Who are you? Data? Or real people?"

The boss tilted her head, half-smile: "What do you think?"

Lucas Kane blinked, then asked boldly: "Master, are you from another race in the universe?"

"Half right."

"Half?" Lucas Kane and the players were stunned.

"Then who are you?"

"We? We are just wandering souls." The boss smiled self-deprecatingly.
