Felix, who embraced Seren tightly, got buckled by his own sister; Felix landed on his back. Seren was unconscious, but her heartbeat was pounding very frequently due to shock. Meanwhile, Théo fainted just nearby—he got thrown away as well.
Ughh… gosh, it hurts…. Felix thought to himself.
"How lucky… y'all is." A random guy with a military uniform said.
Huh? What do you mean? Felix wondered in his thoughts.
His vision blurred, and he couldn't even feel his body anymore. He was half-conscious. He heard the guy step back to his tank. His vision fainted. He's about to get black out, and another one of those octopus tanks surrounds them. Other people who wear the same uniform surround them. There's a lot of chatter between all of them; they're asking, "Who are these people?" And…. "how did they survive?" Just soon after, Felix's vision completely lidded, consciousness began to fade. He fainted.
He heard something clinking. Soft feeling but also sore twitching his back; it feels like… he's lying in a soft marshmallow. It feels so comfortable, like home. He gained his consciousness gradually. As he opened his eyes, he saw a woman in a peach colored nurse outfit and a little hat at his left side, tidying her medicine necessary in a metal tray—there's like syringes, some tiny special tube for medicine, and it was filled with… blood? Did she venipunctured him? She took 2 tubes of blood, and there's a label in writings he doesn't recognize. When the nurse was tidying up, she accidentally landed her gaze to Felix's eyes.
"Oh, you're awake? Hang on, I'll call the doctor." She said in English but a sort of like a German accent emotionlessly, then walked away.
Felix was left speechless. Just then, he felt something tickling on his right hand. He looks to the other side. It's Seren. She buried her head in her arms on the bed; she's sleeping while sitting waiting for Felix to awake. Felix smiled. He patted Seren's head gently. It's so quiet there, no thrill, no Chronicles, no slaughter. It's been his daily life to him for the last 2 years.
He gazed around the room. It was only separated by cyan curtains. All he can see around is the curtains surrounding his bed. The bed was colored white; and a white blanket covered him to his chest.
Wow… I can't believe there's a place like this…. He wondered in disbelief.
When he tried to fix his position a little. He growled and felt something sting on his back. He lifted his blanket. He was actually bandaged from the navel circling around the body all the way to the chest—it's quite a big area, isn't it? At that moment, he realized that he was injured. But still, it can not be a reason for them to take his blood! Not long after, the curtains were waved by someone.
"Greetings."
The man spoke in a neat suit. It looks like he's someone important? It's a really dark blue suit, so his pants; he also wore a black tie and a pair of white gloves. This man looks mature, he has a thin mustache, and his hair is white in some areas; mostly gray, and was combed elegantly to the back. He's somewhat keeping his guard to Felix. Suddenly, another guy wearing a surgical gown shows his face behind those curtains.
"W-what? Minister?" The guy spoke in German.
Huh? Minister? Felix, who had learned German before, instantly understands it.
"Yes. Now, doctor, can you give us some privacy, please?" The man, or… the minister replied and commanded the doctor in German.
Ok…. First impression, I'm in German. So, what now? How the hell did I meet the minister on the first day? Felix thought to himself.
"On it! Mr. Friedrich." The doctor gave a salute, then immediately went off.
The president turned his attention back to Felix. "Sorry for the interruption." He said in English.
"O-oh, it's fine. Also, I speak German, so it's fine." Felix replied in fluent German.
The man slightly bows and places his right hand to his left chest elegantly. "I'm the federal minister of defense, Friedrich Schildmann. May I ask for your name?"
Felix squinted his eyes in questioning. He was like: What is a federal minister of defense doing here? "I'm Felix Montclair."
"Montclair...?" The man ponders. "Okay, and… who is that girl?" He pointed to Seren, who's still sleeping.
"She's Seren Montclair, my sister." Felix answers nonchalantly.
"Where are you 2 from?"
"Uhm, I'm from France." Felix replied.
The man lowered his shoulders and let out a relieving sigh; he looked at Felix in disbelief. "France? Really?"
"Y-yes." Felix awkwardly giggles.
"How did you survive along the way? Didn't France collapse completely right after the catastrophe started? I honestly can't believe there's survivors."
"We're apparently the lucky ones, I guess…." Felix said.
"For your information, both of you have been a hot topic at the parliament. Haha. They really thought that 'Those youngsters were spies' from the Soviet."
Felix laughed awkwardly. There's no way the whole government had mistaken that way. How ironic. "So, it's been a hot topic…. Did the citizens also know our appearance? It'll be very bothersome if so."
The man laughed. "Well, your appearance hasn't been announced publicly, though; so, you 2 are safe." He pulled out his phone from his pocket. "For now, you 2 will live in a house I…" he clicked on the phone. "...just bought."
"H-huh?" Felix left speechless.
"Actually, there's a bunch of things I'd like to tell you. However, I was in charge of another duty; I didn't have much time left. Hence, I will send you an official letter when you're allowed to go home by the doctors." The man turned around, then tried to reach something out of his pocket.
He tosses a card to Felix. Felix immediately catches it as a reflex.
"That's my number. Call me when you need it." The man turned his face to Felix, smiled, then waved at Felix as he got himself out of the room through the curtains.
Felix left speechless as if he was instructed without his own whim. Not long after, Seren moved; she lifted her head out of her arms.
