Of course, Edith also missed her husband very much. For the past five years, she still wondered who her husband really was. She actually wanted to think of him as a husband or a lover, she just wanted him to come back to her. When she woke up from her coma, she was only told that her husband had indeed disappeared and her son had died. However, it was not reported whether they were actually married or not yet engaged. To this day, Edith wants to find her husband, but she is worried that everyone will harm her again. The last time she wanted to investigate the accident case she had been in, strangely enough, there were no recorded accidents under her name for the past five years.
"I miss him so much, too. I'm actually curious about who my husband is. Is he a good person or a bad person?"
"Why do you assume he's a bad person?"
"Because I was so disappointed in him. When I woke up from my coma, the first person who appeared before me wasn't my husband, but another man. I don't hate him because he's been helping me for the past five years. But I hate him for never looking for me all this time. If he really had died, everyone should have told me that he was dead. He should have just been reported missing."
Callum felt more inclined to tell the truth now before his ex-girlfriend grew even more resentful. Hearing his ex-girlfriend openly hate him made his heart ache. If only he had recruited Edith as a secret nanny sooner, she wouldn't have harbored such hatred.
"Maybe he had a reason for suddenly disappearing from your life. Don't hate him too much."
"I will try my best to get rid of that hatred." Her eyes were fixed on her new friend. "Since we share the same fate, I hope we will become good friends in the future."
Callum gently stroked his ex-girlfriend's head. This time, he didn't want to hide his attraction openly. He wanted to be genuine and show how much he truly cared for Edith. He didn't care if Edith felt awkward around him, and since she had witnessed an inappropriate scene earlier this afternoon, he was still angry.
"I really like being friends with you."
"Erdin once told me. He often saw you crying every night and you rarely smiled. But since we've known each other, you've started smiling more often."
"I admit that you are the only one who can make me smile."
Edith widened her eyes and pointed at herself. "Me? I haven't done much to you."
"Because I love seeing a mother who truly loves her child. I can see the way you smile at your daughter and my son."
Edith felt her heart pounding again, as she loved hearing Callum's sweet talk, even though it sounded simple. Her cheeks grew hotter. If she kept hearing those sweet talks nonstop, she might easily fall in love with him.
"Callum, I can see the way you interact with your son, too. You're truly a good father." Edith glanced at the clock on the wall for a moment, which showed it was already midnight. "I think I should go home now. I have to work again tomorrow."
"By the way, during the holidays, are you busy?"
Edith shook her head nervously. "No. I usually play with Eliana at home. What's wrong?"
"From now on, I want you and Eliana to spend the holidays at my house."
"But, is it okay? You'll be bothered because of me."
"No. In fact, the more crowded this house is, the more fun it will be. Actually, I'd love to play with your daughter, too."
"If you're okay with it, then I'll do as you please." Edith lowered her head, staring at her nails. She was actually getting more and more nervous because Callum was treating her so special.
"Don't worry, I don't think of you as a babysitter on my days off. I want to be friends with you too."
Edith's thoughts had been ringing in her ears since hanging out with Callum. This was the first time she felt so comfortable visiting a man's house. Cliff had invited her to his house several times, but Edith always declined. However, when Callum invited her to play here, she wouldn't refuse. In fact, for some reason, she was eagerly anticipating this moment.
"Callum, thank you for inviting me to play at your house."
"I can't wait for the holidays. I told you before, you can think of this house as your own."
It was time for Edith to go home, as she needed to get some rest. When she woke Eliana, who was still asleep in the guest room, she suddenly burst into loud tears, leaving Edith unsure how to comfort her. Especially since Eliana rarely cried while sleeping. Was she having a nightmare?
The loud crying caused Callum to immediately enter the room. He immediately acted like a good father and approached his daughter, who was still crying. He sat on the edge of the bed, then cradled her tiny body and patted her back.
"Dad… I want dad."
"I'm here, my daughter." Callum kissed his little princess' forehead affectionately for a moment, which managed to calm her down.
Edith was shocked to see Callum's actions calm Eliana. Furthermore, Eliana was now hugging Callum tightly, as if he were her real father. She couldn't say anything; all she could do was watch this unexpected moment, which shocked her deeply. Furthermore, the look in Callum's eyes, filled with affection for Eliana, was like looking at his own daughter.
Callum moved his lips closer to his little princess's ear. "My daughter, don't cry anymore. I'm your father."
"Daddy..."
"But, for now, can I ask you a favor? I want you to think of me as your uncle. I don't mean to betray your mother, but there's something I must do to protect you and your mother. You must keep this secret from your mother. Don't let her find out."
Eliana nodded, slowly stroking his father's soft cheek. "I love you so much, Dad."
"I love you too, my daughter. You and Erdin must work together to support me and your mother in reuniting."
