"Thank you for stepping in," she said quietly. "But I had a life before all this. Before I became your… responsibility. Before this house. I have a home. I could get a job."
"What experience do you have? You said so yourself, your mother raised you in a bubble."
"And then you want to keep me in another bubble?" Sera accused him.
"Fine." He dragged the word out, annoyed that she'd managed to back him into a corner yet again. "What are your plans then?"
