Eric cleared his throat, visibly fighting himself back under control. "Come on. Eat." He gestured to the tray on the table. "I'll go finish up some work and be back."
Then, with a pointed look:
"And please… don't lock the door."
Sera nodded slowly. Eric held her gaze for one more second before he finally left the room.
She walked to the door.
And turned the key.
A tiny, delicious act of rebellion.
Of course, she knew he would find his way in if he wanted to. But he really didn't expect her to always obey him. And tonight, she needed the small victory.
Then she turned, saw the warm dinner he'd carried up with his own hands.
