Chapter 39 - Episode 39: The Shifted Strike

INT. C.H.R.U.C.H BUILDING(BASEMENT) - EVENING. NOVEMBER 1ST, 2025, 7:00 P.M

Gabriel felt a weird sense of trepidation as he saw the grotesque man move. A weird smell similar to spoiled water flowed through the air. The man kept wobbling towards them, causing Gabriel to flinch back unconsciously. Blake stepped in front of the group, the shield on his right hand glowing brightly in the dark. The man noticed the shield and stopped walking. The man focused his entire attention on Blake. "I..remember you, boy", the man growled, lifting his right arm and pointing at Blake. "That shield, it… it brings back memories."

"It'll bring back a whole lot more than memories if you don't back off.", Blake growled.

The man cocked his head to the side, lowering his arm, staring deeply at Blake. "Still.. Just as hostile as you were when we first met."

Blake started shaking, his left hand clenching, and unclenching as he glared at the man. "You tried to drown me when I tried to question you about the people going missing around your lake."

"Next time, boy learn to mind your fucking business.", the man refuted.

Blake went to step forward, but Thea grabbed his shoulder, stopping him from approaching the man. "Al, calm down, let's just grab Gibby and go ahead get out of here." Blake shrugged her hand off his shoulder. Though he didn't step forward again to approach the man, yet he kept his gaze on him.

The sound of groaning broke through the tension in the air as Gibby finally sat up. Gabriel leaned down to offer his hand to Gibby, but ignored the hand, willing to stand up on his own. He stared, glanced around the room as he got to his feet. "Where the he…", he trailed off before his gaze stopped on the green man standing in front of the group. Gibby rubbed his eyes as if he were seeing things. "What the fuck is that?" he asked the group in confusion.

"Gibby, as your leader, I'll ask you to calm down, and not insult that man.",Thea warned.

Gibby let out a loud snort as he looked back at the man. "You, this, this green fat fuck could..ackkk.." Gibby's words cut off as a green vine wrapped around his throat.

"You think you talk shit to me, sonny, and get away with it.", The man snarled, the vine connected to his outstretched, the vine tightening as it slowly cut off the oxygen supply.

"Got damnnit", Blake muttered as ran forward, Thea trailing behind him. Blake reached Gibby first, using the edge of the shield to cut the vine. The shield went through the vine easily, a small shriek coming from it as the cut part retreated back towards the man.

Gibby stumbled backwards once the pressure on his neck was gone, Thea catching him before he could fall on his butt. Gabriel tried to ignore everything going around him, focusing on making a giant platform for everyone. A giant circle formed under everyone's feet, before hardening into a one inch platform. Gabriel's face had beads of sweat beginning to form as he started concentrating on rising the platform in the air.

"Woah, your magic ability is so versatile.", Grace gushed as she looked at Gabriel appreciatively.

The group Blake, Thea, and Gibby shared a look yet decided not to say anything. They thought it was best to allow Gabriel to concentrate on flying them out of the deep hole. Two minutes passed, the light getting stronger as the edge of the broken pieces of the flooring was starting to come into view. Gabriel glanced down and realized how far they had actually fallen. It had to have been at least a two story drop that they somehow survived. Gabriel wondered if having powers strengthened the body in certain ways.

Shaking his head he got his thoughts back on trying to escape the deep hole. Though he could help but shudder at how up they are from the ground. Gabriel took a deep breath, not letting the height get to him as he brought them fully out of the hole. The disk waver, but Gabriel was able to force the disk to keep flying until he sat them on the ground at the entrance.

Ignoring the dead body that was still laying there, Gabriel dropped to the ground on one knee. His breathing came out heavily as sweat poured down his face. The smell of blood was potent in the area, but he did his best to not focus on that aspect.

Grace kneeled down next to Gabriel with stars in her eyes. "Wooo! Hell yeah, good job Mr. Owns. I didn't know you could construct something hard enough for us to stand on.

Gabriel just gave a thumb, he felt like his energy was completely gone. Blake took a glance at Gabriel before turning his back to look down the hole. "Thea go ahead and use your magic to fix the floor already."

Thea opened her mouth to say something, but ultimately decided not. She stepped next to Blake, her eyes closed as she held up her palms, the ring on her finger starting to turn glow green. Soon the green began to spread out, similar to a radar, as the broken flooring began to glow green as well. Soon everything started coming together, and the broken pieces slowly started coming up from the ground. It looked like the world was rewinding with how the floor slowly started rebuilding itself.

Gabriel, finally catching his breath, stood up from the ground, turning to join the group but looked in awe. He loved seeing the room slowly piece itself back together; it was like watching someone building something. Instead of over days, it was all at once. Finally, when the last piece was about to fall in place, a green blur shot through the floor before it closed. It was a small green, feathered bird circling around the ceiling. Once the last flooring was in place, the green bird landed in the middle of the floor. The entire situation took less than twenty seconds. Besides the green bird, the room itself looked back to normal, minus the broken window, and the water in the hot tub missing.

Blake didn't hesitate to run forward, throwing the shield at the green bird. The green bird quickly switched to a mouse dodging out of the way before the shield could land. Gabriel trusting Blake's lead ran behind him.

"Are you guys dumb are what, why are you fighting the bird, mouse thingy?", Gibby wondered out loud. Looking at Grace and Thea for answers. Grace had a frown on her face, but didn't say anything, feeling the situation could be off. Thea, seeing Grace not sawing anything, followed suit. Gibby looked annoyed ‌about being ignored but didn't react. He crossed his arms in annoyance as he frowned at the duo.

Gabriel summoned a medium-sized fly swatter hoping, making it fly ahead aim at the mouse. The mouse quickly moved between each slap of the fly swatter, quickly shifting into a wolf. The green wolf launched itself quickly at Gabriel, but Echo had a shield that rebounded the attack back. The wolf slid across the ground, a few feet back from Gabriel, right into the path of Blake. Quickly sent an uppercut into the wolf's side, causing it to roll across the ground. Blake followed up with throwing the shield, but the wolf could roll out of the way.

Thea let out a gasp as she finally caught on to what was going on. Thea turned away to the battle, going towards where the hot tub was. Pushing a panel on the wall, it opened up revealing a golden shield and spear. Grabbing the spear, Thea spun around before gripping it with a point facing the ground. She turned around and joined the fray. Once the wolf dodged the shield, it quickly switched into a horse, turning around and kicking Blake in the chest, forcing him to step back in pain. The horse went in for another kick when Thea blocked it with her spear. CLANG!

Both attacks bounced off of each other with the horse falling to the ground. Gabriel made a gun and started firing at the horse. The horse in panic quickly became a green fly, dodging the light bullets before it could hit him.

"I hate fighting this stupid asshole!"Blake growled as his shield returned to right hand. Unlike the usual.

Thea growled , swinging her spear around trying her best to hit the fly, but it dodged "I assume this green abomination is Vodyanoy."

"Yeah, the only reason we defeated him in the first place was that he got shocked after being forced away from his water source."

" One of these days we're going to sit down and talk about all the secret stuff you're been doing around here.", Said Thea exasperated.

Gabriel nodded his head in agreement. "I'm with her to sit down about your past, but for now I think we should focus on the fly bussing around our heads." He summoned four fly swatters that he then started using trying to chase down the fly. The fly dodged the first two fly swatters, but was caught by the third one getting slapped to the ground.

Thea tried to capitalize by going to step on the fly. Vodyanoy went from a fly to a bear, letting out a loud roar as he blocked the stomp. Leaving a slight deep scratch on her leg, he slashed at her. Gibby, seeing his boss injured, flew into action , fireball after fireball. The bear roared in pain as its fur caught on fire, quickly dropping on the ground and putting the leftover flames. Gabriel saw an opportunity and summoned a giant bat slamming it down on the bear's face.

When Gabriel went for another hit on the bear, the bear decided to switch to a snake. It quickly slithered its way across the ground. Gabriel quickly pulled the bat back before it broke a hole in the ground again. Thea jumped into the fray, chasing after the snake, doing her best to catch it with her snake. The snake dodged a fireball from Gibby, landing on the edge of Thea's spear. Thea threw the snake at Blake, and Blake it to the ground with a bang.

The snake lay there unmoving, with Blake standing over it panting. "You ugly sack of shit, why don't you do yourself a favor and just lay there a minute?" The snake tried to move his body, but Gabriel stepped hard on his tail. The snake let out a loud hiss, biting Blake on the ankle. "God, fuck, you piece of shit!" Shaking his leg trying to get the snake to get off of his angle.

Gabriel had white energy form around his hand, similar to Gibby, and threw the energy at the snake. The first one missed, hitting the ground next to Blake's leg. The second one hit the snake right on its side, forcing it to let go of Blake's ankle, taking a piece of skin with it as it rolled across the ground. "AHHH!", Screamed Blake as he hopped around one foot as blood poured to the ground. Gabriel rushed to Blake's side quickly, healing the injury.

Thea kept her eyes on the snake as it rolled across the ground. Thea watched as the side had some smoke coming out of its side. Thea went to stab it while it was in its weakened state, but the snake switched back to his regular form. Catching the end of the spear in its hand. "You.. guys are pests. So many fuck pests. Just let me have my freedom!"Vodyanoy screamed, shoving the spear back into Thea's face, breaking her nose.

"DIRECTOR!"Gibby yelled in worry as he watched Thea stumble. He flew forward, his body having flames surrounding it as he kept shooting fireballs over and over again.
