Chapter 40 - Episode 40: Too Close for Comfort

INT. C.H.R.U.C.H BUILDING(THEA'S OFFICE) - EVENING. NOVEMBER 1ST, 2025, 7:30 P.M

Vodyanoy, seeing the fire, quickly transformed back into a bird, dodging the fireballs that were aimed at him. Gibby kept trying his best to aim at the green bird in the air. Vodyanoy quickly flew above Gibby's body, transforming from a bird to a tiger, landing right on his back. Gibby fell to the ground hard, Vodyanoy clawing at his back. Gabriel used a giant baseball to knock the tiger off of Gibby. Vodyanoy rolled right into the path of Thea. Thea with her spear quickly stabbed down, piercing Vodyanoy's side, blood squirting everywhere.

Vodyanoy let out a mighty roar, the volume so loud it shook the floor. Thea gritted her teeth, ignoring the ringing in her ear as she pulled her spear out. When she went in for another stab, the Vodyanoy turned into a chimpanzee. Using the superior strength gained from his new form, Vodyanoy stepped into Thea's attack, parrying the spear before the pointed end could stab him. The sudden redirection threw Thea off balance, leaving her open to a punch to the chest. The attack sent her sprawling backwards. Vodyanoy stood banging his chest, howling at the air.

Gabriel coated his hand in energy and threw bolts of light quickly at Vodyanoy. Vodyanoy quickly started jumping around, moving across ground quickly, dodging the bolts. Blake, sneaking up from behind, tried to catch Vodyanoy but failed when he jumped over Blake. Blake had to get his shield up quickly to block the next few bolts coming his way. CLANG! The bolts fizzed out in the middle of the shield. "Aye, watch it!"Blake yelled, lowering his shield.

Gabriel just shrugged as he mentally commanded Echo to make a shield behind Blake's back. Echo flew from behind his back, almost invisible to the eye, and then a second appeared behind Blake. Blake turned around, but the sight of the Vodyanoy stuck in the air shocked him. Stopped by Echo's shield. The shield has wrapped around the Vodyanoy's chimpanzee torso. "You're welcome for the help", Gabriel said, rushing past Blake. He aimed an uppercut in the air, at the spot where the Vodyanoy was stuck. A medium-sized fist made of light came out at the end of Gabriel's attack. At the same time, Echo lowered its arms, letting the shield dissolve into light.

The uppercut connected hard with Vodyanoy's jaw, snapping his head back, sending him further in the air. Blake did a quick spin releasing the shield, speeding quickly towards Vodyanoy, hitting him dead in the stomach. Before bouncing off in the air, Blake summoned it back to his right arm. Vodyanoy's form flickered before going back to the original form the group found him in. Blood dripping down his face he was falling out of the air.

Gabriel raised both of his, in front of him. Two giant hands rose from the ground, grabbing Vodyanoy tight in their grip, before slamming him to the ground. A small dent formed because of the strength of the attack. Giant hands proceeded to throw a couple of punches before disappearing into particles of light. Blake rushed forward with his shield in his hands, Gabriel hot on his heels. Blake reached the downed Vodyanoy first, pinned him down to the ground. Using the shield to keep him at bay as the Vodyanoy moved around in pain. "Calm down, you ugly fuck!"Blake yelled over the loud shrieks of pain.

"I…Want.. to..be..free!", Vodyanoy shouted

Gabriel snapped his fingers, a string of light forming, circling around the shield and Vodyanoy. Blake quickly stood up to avoid being wrapped around. "Fuck you freedom!", Gabriel stated, doing his best to try to sound cool. Sweat going down his face, but overall in good condition.

Blake looked at Gabriel before holding up six fingers. "Trying too hard, gotta let the phrase come off the tongue naturally."

Gabriel just threw his hands up in exasperation. "Whatever", he grumbled.

Blake gave a slight shrug before lowering his hands, his gaze turning towards Vodyanoy laying on the ground. The man's eyes dropped from losing the little power he had left. "I just want to know, was it worth it?"Blake asked Vodyanoy.

Vodyanoy stayed quiet. Instead, Gabriel was the one to speak up. "What did he do in the first place?"

Blake glanced at Gabriel, before turning back to Vodyanoy. His gaze was tightened as he clenched his fist in anger. "This piece of shit!"He spat, the tone venomous, hard. The raw emotion was so intense that Gabriel almost took a step back. "He was flooding the neighborhoods around the edge of the city closest to the ocean when people didn't give him offerings and prayers."

"That doesn't explain the intense hate you have for him.", Gabriel pointed, really not seeing the connection to the anger was so potent. Blake remained quiet, the sound of his heavy was loud to Gabriel's ears but he decided not to push it. Blake just stood their motionless, his hand clenching and unclenching.

"Ahh, you guys took him down before I had a chance too!", Thea whined, coming to stand besides Gabriel. Gibby slightly back, and behind her as if he was her bodyguard. Thea looked at Blake before turning her head towards Gabriel. "Is he okay?

Gabriel shrugged in response. "Want me to be honest, I don't know." He rubbed his sweat bound hair, his eyes roaming the area. "Truthfully, I think the best thing for us to do would be to send him back to his evergaol.

Blake didn't say anything, his eyes never leaving the Vodyanoy wrapped up form. Thea quickly nodded in agreement. "If you want to make the hole, I can repair it before the stupid green Santa Claus comes back to attack us."

Getting the go ahead, Gabriel quickly made a jackhammer out of white light. Echo quickly came from behind Gabriel and took the jackhammer drilling into the ground. The floor and stone quickly gave way(much to Gabriel's shock, it was so quick). After approximately five minutes, Echo floated back over to Gabriel, jackhammer in hand. "I guess it's my turn.", he muttered to himself. Gabriel quickly summoned a giant hand, grabbing Vodyanoy, he quickly moved the body over the hole. Gabriel dropped him unceremoniously, the hand disappearing in a glowing particle of light.

Blake's attention finally wavered as he turned his head towards the glowing green objects around the room. The floor repaired itself so quickly, he almost missed it if he wasn't paying attention.

"Well, that takes care of that.", Thea said, rubbing her hands together as she turned towards Gabriel. "I guess now it's up to us to do something‌ about the demon who took my sister's body."

Gabriel shook his head, "It seems she disappeared during the", he observed, facing towards the doorway.

"Of course she did", Thea sighed, turning towards the rest of the office. " And I'm going to have to get more furniture too. What a fucking day it's been."

"It's going to be even worse if what he said was true about the people she killed throughout the building. The cleaning and replacement of personnel is going to take a while.", Gabriel pointed out to Thea. Taking a deep breath, and eyes taking in all the damage. The hot tub is absent from the water, which is probably how Vodyanoy got at least some of his strength back. Hearing heavy footsteps going across the ground, turned to see Blake marching his way to the exit.

"What's his problem mate", Gibby asked Gabriel.

Gabriel cocked his to the side, thinking about how to explain the situation. "Truthfully, I don't know besides hating Vodyanoy.", he admitted, letting out a tired sigh. "Maybe it has something to do with how they caught him in the first place."

"I was around at the time but I wasn't working with Al at the time.", Thea explained.

Gabriel rubbed his face in frustration. "I guess it's another pile of questions to add onto the life that is Blake."

"Hmm", Thea agreed.

Gibby stepped forward and bumped shoulders with Gabriel playfully. "Even after all of this you owe me a fight."

"Yeah, let's take a raincheck on that one, I'll get back to you in a couple business days.", Gabriel replied. I don't want to fight him again, he thought to himself bitterly.

"Haha I'll hold you to it mate.", Gibby laughed, slapping Gabriel on his back with enough force to push him forward.

"Right, I'll go catch up with Blake and see what he wants to do.", Gabriel said slowly, walking, rubbing his neck awkwardly.

"If you guys end up leaving, then tell Blake if he wants a job back here I'll put in a good word.", Thea called out. Before facing ‌Gibby and starting a hushed conversation that Gabriel couldn't hear.

Gabriel let out a small wave before jogging towards Blake. Throwing his arm around Blake's shoulders in jest. "Another adventure down in the books, and another one we survived", Gabriel shouted heartedly a smile on his face.

Blake wanted to stay angry, but with joy on Gabriel's he couldn't help it. A small smile started forming on his face. "I guess, you're right, that is another adventure down.", he replied before stopping. Glancing clearing at the door as an envelope laid on the ground.
