Chapter 11 - Lab results

The next day, Evelyn got dressed and ready to leave. Selene wanted to go as well but was gently pushed back to bed by Evelyn The force was gentle but her tone bore no room for bargain.

She didn't think Selene was in the right condition to go anywhere now. Not to mention her emotions were a mess, she was also still jet lagged from the long trip. It would be better to just stay and and rest lest something happen later.

Selene who really wasn't feeling all that fine finally relented under Evelyn's offence and agreed to stay behind.

Although she was unwilling, she knew that she wouldn't be much help in her current situation and could even become a drag to Evelyn. She didn't want that.

Evelyn took a taxi to uncle Xavier's law firm and was led to his office by his secretary. His office was designed sparsely with only a few necessary items and the only personal thing was the photo on the desk which had been turned over for some reason.

His smile widened the moment Evelyn came into view.

"Evie you're here. Just right in time, the results from the lab just came in and I haven't looked at them yet."

Evelyn's curiosity got the best of her and she decided to see this before getting the divorce documents.

She wanted to see what Nathan had been feeding her with in the name is supplements. If it was something extremely dangerous, she promised herself that she would pay him back in kind.

Xavier opened the file and skimmed through the contents once, his expression darkening. He read through it again and couldn't help but let out an angry laugh.

"That Nathan is really brave"

He looked honest on the surface but who knew he had such a dark heart beneath that exterior.

Evelyn really couldn't sit still now took the paper from him and quickly read through it her heart hammering loudly in her ribs as she understood the implications. Did this really mean what she thought it meant?

But rather than being angry, she was relieved and a little bit happy. So the problem wasn't with her. It had never been with her.

Xavier who saw that she didn't have any reaction thought she was too stunned to even react and his hatred for Nathan increased.

"Evie, it's okay. That Natahn is despicable for secretly feeding you birth control pills but don't worry, you only need to nourish yourself for a while and you'll be all better. I'll make sure to find you the best doctors."

Evelyn wasn't in shock as he thought. In fact, she was over the moon. She was prepared to find out Nathan was feeding her some slow acting poison.

Although this was no better, at least there wouldn't be any children between them when she left which would drag her down. Children have always been the most worrisome thing during a divorce.

If Nathan knew that his actions would make her able to leave cleanly and with peace of mind, he would probably want to rewind time.

"Uncle Xavi, I'm not sad. I'm happy. Very happy."

Although she wanted to have children of her own, she would rather they didn't have Nathan's blood flowing through their veins. With how disgusting he was, she didn't want any children of hers to be tainted by that unclean thing.

After finding out about this, she wasn't that angry. She was even joyful at escaping a disaster. In this way, it could be said that Nathan's actions were of benefit to her.

Xavier saw her like this and couldn't help but be stunned. Then he laughed at his own shortsightedness.

He had thought she would be angry at not having a child with him since children were the bridge between their parents but she seemed relieved instead.

"You really are nothing like her."

Evelyn smiled at that, knowing exactly who he meant. She learnt enough from her parents marriage never to make the same mistake.

She would never have the thoughts of trapping any man with a child. That was simply a suicide mission. Any man who needed to be 'trapped' definitely didn't want to be there in the first place and nothing would hold him there for long.

"Uncle Xavi, although I don't plan on using it, you should keep this test result for later."

She had a feeling Nathan wouldn't just obediently sign the papers. Although she hoped he would have some shame as the cheating party, she knew he was probably too thick skinned to even know what shame was.

Xavier had no problem with that and put the papers away. He couldn't help but ask.

"Don't you resent him?"

Evelyn thought for a while and nodded. She did. She wasn't some kind of saint. She wouldn't turn the other side of her face if slapped, she would slap back.

Her relief came from the fact that she wouldn't have to look at their children in the future and come to terms with the fact that she hated her own children because of who their father was.

"My mother-in-law always insulted me for being barren and not being able to give her grandchildren. I bet she never expected that this was all her son's doing."

Even if she did, Evelyn didn't have any hope for that woman. She would probably think of an excuse for Nathan.

"But it's good this way. After the divorce, I won't have any problems regarding custody arrangement or anything like that."

Xavier saw that she really wasn't bothered about it and was relieved. This child had faced so much so she never lost her heart. It was truly admirable.

Evelyn took the divorce papers from him and called a taxi, heading to Nathan's company. While sitting, she began to think about the possibility of buying a car and renewing her license in the short term.

She had too many places to be.

She went into the building and stopped at the front desk.

"I want to see Nathan. "
