The receptionist raised her head and immediately smiled.
"Mrs Hale! The boss is upstairs, you know the way just take the executive elevator"
Evelyn smiled as well.
"Alright then. Thank you."
The girl beamed.
"It's okay. It's okay."
Evelyn went to the elevator and stepped inside. She called Nathan but he didn't answer. The first time, he just let the phone ring and the second time, he directly rejected the call.
Evelyn calmly put the phone back in her bag and waited for the elevator to make it's ascent.
The elevator stopped with a ding and the doors slid open. Evelyn stepped out and immediately locked eyes with Nathan's assistant who seemed stunned before rushing over to usher her fawningly.
"Mrs Hale. I didn't know you'd be coming. Please..."
He opened the door to Nathan's office and motioned to Evelyn to walk in.
She went in and Nathan was on the phone. From his tone, it was obviously a casual conversation rather than a business one.
He raised his index finger, telling her to be quiet and motioned to a seat.
Evelyn smiled. So he could take calls after all. Just wouldn't take hers.
Instead of doing what she was asked to, she walked over to the desk and snatched his phone from his hand then ended the call.
Nathan looked up at her in shock.
"Evelyn what are you doing!?"
She ignored his anger and dropped the phone on the desk them calmly reached into her bag and took out the document, slapping it on the desk.
"Sign it."
Nathan was stunned by her strong display and unconsciously wanted to do what she said but one look at the document and his face turned green.
He stood up abruptly from the chair, his chest heaving with anger.
"Evelyn what is the meaning of this? Is this some kind of prank? Some new way of attracting my attention? If that's it then it worked. You now have all my attention!"
Evelyn raised an eyebrow.
"Why didn't I realize you had such thick skin before? What part of me wanting to be separated from you looks like attention seeking ah? I can't wait to stay far away from you. Now sign quickly, I have other places to be. "
Nathan grabbed his hair in frustration and tried to hold her hand but she took a step back in obvious disgust.
"There's no need to touch me. Just sign the divorce papers and I'll be out of your hair."
Nathan didn't know where it went wrong. How could she suddenly want a divorce? They were obviously doing okay before.
Did she find something out? He quickly shook his head no. He hid too deeply, there was no way she would find out.
It was only after going to see Selene that she's suddenly asking for a divorce.Thinking of something, he held unto it like a lifeboat.
"Is it Selene? Was the the one who influenced you? Evelyn don't listen to her. She's simply jealous because you have the life she's always wanted. She's already this old but hasn't gotten msrried yet. Yes, that's it. She's jealous of—"
'SLAP!'
A harsh sound reverberated through the room and Nathan clutched his cheek and looked at Evelyn in horror and confusion. She actually slapped him.
Evelyn blew on her palm lightly before raising her head to look at Nathan.
"Don't talk about my friend like that. I'll be leaving now, the papers should be signed when I come to pick them up later."
She turned around and left, leaving Nathan and John Adams—his assistant, in the room. Nathan looked at John who was trying to make his presence less noticable and decided to deal with the biggest problem first.
As he dashed out of the room, John's hand went over his fast beating heart. He never expected to see this today. He should have left earlier but there was no chance. Now he was starting to regret accompanying the lady.
Who knew he would encounter such a big thing? While he was worried, another part of him felt curious. What exactly had the boss done to make his mild tempered wife want to get divorced?
Nathan followed Evelyn down to the bottom floor ignoring the strange looks from everyone. Usually, he would pay attention to his image but now he couldn't even be bothered with that.
He made to grab Evelyn's arm but she flung him off.
"Nathan act like a normal person okay. Don't try to grab me all the time."
Nathan's face turned ugly. He had thought she would give him face. Who knew she would completely disregard everything and embarrass him in public?
He was desperate. He didn't know what went wrong but he knew that he had to make Mo Shengsheng change her mind.
"I don't know what I did wrong. Evie, baby, just give me a chance to explain."
Evelyn felt bored. All through their marriage, this was the first time he showed such raw emotions. Other times, he was simply pretending.
But Evelyn didn't fall for it. Men would say one thing and mean another. Not to mention this one that had already made a name for himself for not being trustworthy.
"Nothing you say is going to make me change my mind Nathan."
Nathan gritted his teeth and tore the papers in half. As though feeling that wasn't enough, he tore it up again in several small pieces, scattering them on the floor.
He edged closer to Evelyn and lowered his voice.
"Evelyn if you dare to divorce me, be careful that I don't take care of you. You're just a weak woman with no family protection and no powerful friends. If you think you can leave me, then think again."
Evelyn's eyes turned cold and she tilted her head with a sweet smile on her lips.
"Nathan, if you knew me well enough, you would know that I hate being threatened the most."
Without waiting for him to speak, she turned around and left. Since he didn't want a peaceful divorce, then she would give him a messy one.
