"Think, Lilian!" Lilian yelled in her mind,
her heart was hammering so hard she was certain Cassandra could hear it.
Cassandra was staring at her with those intense ocean-blue eyes, her expression unreadable but alert. Suspicious.
And Lawrence stood just behind her, his own gaze sharp and questioning.
Lilian's mind raced frantically.
"She's going to see the package. She's going to..."
No.
Lilian forced herself to take a breath.
"You're Rose Bennett. You're her mate. She's obsessed with you. Use it."
In a split second, Lilian made her decision.
She let her panicked expression melt away, forcing her features into something softer. Calmer. Almost shy.
Her grip on the files loosened slightly, and she tucked them and the hidden envelope, more securely against her chest.
Then she looked up at Cassandra through her lashes and took a small step forward.
"I was waiting for you." Lilian said quietly, her voice barely above a whisper.
