I didn't know how to feel. Sebastian had let me be; he didn't force himself on me. A profound, almost overwhelming sense of relief washed over the shock and fear.
I lay back down, my body still stiff, and stared at his broad back. Conflicting thoughts ricocheted inside my head.
Was he waiting? Was this some sort of psychological test? I must have been staring too long, too hard, projecting my fear and curiosity onto him, because he suddenly moved, turning his head slightly toward me.
"If you continue staring at me like that, I'll take it that you want me to continue from where I had stopped," he warned, his voice a low rumble in the darkness.
Fear, hot and immediate, gripped me again. I snapped my eyes shut, holding my breath. I heard a sound then, and it wasn't the menacing snicker I had expected. It was a laugh.
