Commissioner Darius continued to glare at me across the polished mahogany table. The vein in his neck was pulsing violently, a clear indicator of his immense rage. I pushed my chair back, the sound scraping momentarily against the silence, and stood up to leave the private dining room.
Caspian immediately rose to follow my lead. We were almost at the door when Darius's voice, now strained and high pitched, stopped us.
"Wait," he commanded.
I paused, turning only my head enough to indicate I was listening.
"Sebastian, you can't threaten me like this," Darius continued, his voice attempting to regain some of its previous boisterous confidence, but failing miserably.
