It felt weird getting compliments from Pinky but I'm not going to complain since it is a step in the right direction. This also means I'll get to go on some of the better jobs soon.
"I'll continue to work hard with the jobs we go on then." I responded with an appreciative tone.
"Good. Go relax or whatever until the next one." Pinky said before walking away.
I didn't see a reason to disagree with that so I went back to my room to relax for a bit, taking in everything that happened. It was nice to take a seat by the window and look out at the neon lights that lit up the streets.
It makes it a lot easier to think about things with a nice view like this. It's been quite some time since I've seen or heard anything about Renji.
I know that it is important to find him but I'm still not ready to head off on my own just yet. There's still a lot that I need to learn and get better at.
My gun skills are pretty sharp so far but hand to hand combat could use a lot of work still. I also need to talk to doc about how to use the mana in my arm more.
There's got to be some benefits to it, maybe a way to be even stronger than I already am.
Suddenly I turned around with my gun ready when I heard the door open up on its own. Standing in the doorway was Reika, she never really comes to my room so why would she suddenly be here now?
"What's the boss herself doing here?" I questioned with a bit of a smirk.
"Let's talk Zero. I believe you might be the right guy for a job I'm considering." Reika answered with a serious tone.
No irritation in her voice or some stupid nickname? This must be a serious job for someone to handle, and it seems like I might be the guy to do it.
"What's the job?" I asked with a curious tone.
"The Vantablades are making a move that might cause some issues for us and I figured you might want to get some revenge." Reika responded while crossing her arms.
Honestly am I really capable of going after a gang like that on my own? I haven't really thought about how to deal with them, plus I haven't gotten any training with these pieces of metal.
"I've got no experience with my current metal and going at them with just a deagle isn't really the most efficient method." I said with a more serious tone.
"I'm going to set you up with a netwire sniper rifle, a prototype that we've been working on. Consider yourself spoiled." Reika replied with a small smile.
I've gotten to fire a sniper before, but never a netwire one. Seems that this job will be a lot easier than I expected.
"Alright, I'm game." I said with a mischievous grin.
After the conversation was over I followed her to the lab where a nice sniper rifle was sitting on the table. It was a nice matte black with stripes of red neon going throughout the rifle.
It didn't look like any of the standard snipers that we know, it kind of seemed like an original creation.
"This is the LZR-01. It'll be the ultimate rifle for you to use against anyone." A man in a lab coat spoke with some excitement.
"Go ahead, see how it feels." Reika instructed.
I picked up the sniper, feeling the weight of the rifle altogether. It wasn't too bad and the scope was perfect, plus it is a netwire weapon.
It is kind of impossible not to hit the target with a rifle like this.
Next to the rifle was a bag with the ammunition I needed for the LZR-01, seems like this thing will be packing a punch.
"It feels good. I think I'm ready for the job." I said with confidence.
"Then, let's get going. I'll tell you about something else before I drop you off." Reika responded with a calm, yet excited tone.
I followed her once again until we reached a car, it wasn't anything flashy. The car was a bit rusty with some scratches in each of the doors.
It didn't matter though since this was just my ride to wherever she was dropping me off at.
I figured it would probably be somewhere close to where the Vantablades are or maybe where the hideout is. It is unclear how many I'm killing or who I'm killing.
"You have a crazy powerful prototype with the rifle and your arm combined. When you use the rifle, try to focus on the feeling coursing through your right arm. If you channel it right, the power of that sniper is going to be even more insane." Reika said with a bit of excitement.
"How many am I killing and does that really work?" I asked, curiously.
The mana coursing through my arm could be quite a deadly combination with experimental weapons like this. It might even be good without this weapon too, but I have no idea how to use it.
There's so much that I don't know about this damn arm.
"As many as you can. All of them would be ideal, but yes that does work if you make it work." Reika responded without hesitation.
I got out of the car with all my gear after that and made my way up onto the rooftop. I set-up my spot so that I could see everything clearly.
There was definitely a lot of Vantablades gathering down below and I could see that they were setting something up.
The scope on the LZR-01 was perfect for this job and honestly I'm hoping to give these bastards as much pain as possible. But something about this all seems weird.
I have been getting a lot of strange feeling lately, maybe it's because of this thing in my chest. Either way, I guess it is time to kill these pricks.
