A few days after the incident at the banquet, Evelyne's attitude toward Tristan grew colder, making him quite uncomfortable and creating awkwardness between them.
From the start, he had wanted to make Evelyne angry with him, but still make her need him.
However, things had turned out this way instead. She was indeed annoyed with him, but for a different reason. Tristan felt quite guilty for having scolded her, even though she had only been trying to help him.
'I did it reflexively. I didn't really mean to offend her like that,' he thought at the time.
But he also started to think. What did he have to do with her?
If Evelyn got angry and distanced herself from him, wouldn't that be much better so he wouldn't have to keep thinking about that woman and could focus on his relationship with Victoria?
Still, the guilt lingered inside him. He even thought about apologizing, but he was still unsure about it.
Knock knock
Suddenly, there was a knock on his office door, startling Tristan, who immediately allowed whoever was at the door to enter.
As soon as the door opened, Evelyne walked in, carrying a folder of documents in her hand. She was wearing a black suit with long pants and her hair was loose as usual.
Always look beautiful and elegant in front of everyone.
"Mr. Everhart, I need your signature on this document. This afternoon, there will be a meeting with an indie game creator who wants to offer his game to be developed at our company," she said as she handed over the document.
Tristan read the document in his hand, then signed it after finishing reading it.
"For this afternoon's meeting, is the game creator worth listening to his ideas?" he asked for her opinion.
"We don't know whether he's worth listening to his game ideas or not. However, there's no harm in listening to at least 15 to 20 minutes of what he has to say. Maybe this will be a new challenge and also a good idea for our company,"s he replied.
The man nodded in understanding, time was money, and he didn't want to waste precious minutes listening to something that might not be worth his time.
Evelyne took the document back and bowed to leave the room immediately.
But he called out to her, making her stop at the door.
"Evelyne!" He stood up from his seat and walked closer.
The woman turned around only to find her ex husband standing not far from her.
"Is there something you need from me, sir?" she asked.
"I... I just want to apologize for getting angry at you a few days ago. I didn't mean to do it because..."
"It's okay." Evelyne cut him off. "It's natural for you to do that. You were just trying to protect your fiancé. What I did was too sudden, even hurting her wrist."
"That's not what I meant. But..."
"It's my job as a secretary to make sure my boss is okay." Again, she cut him off, then bowed before finally leaving the room without waiting for his response.
Tristan just stood there silently, unable to say anything else as he watched her leave.
However, that made him even more upset.
In the afternoon, an hour before quitting time, Tristan approached Evelyne's desk and slammed down several stacks of folders containing important company documents.
THUD!
Evelyne and several employees sitting nearby were startled when the stacks of folders landed on her desk.
"Get all of this done. I want everything finished tonight and on my desk," he said coldly.
He paused for a moment before continuing his sentence with a sharp gaze. "I won't accept any excuses. Finish it tonight or leave my company and don't come back."
The man then walked into his office and closed the door.
"The aura is killing me. Evelyne, are you okay?" asked Isabella, the employee sitting at the desk in front of her.
"Huft... I think I'll be fine. I have to finish all of this quickly tonight," she replied.
She had no choice but to do it, or Tristan would fire her. It would be harder to find a new job than to finish all the data he requested in a few hours.
"You can do it, Evelyne. You've lasted almost four months at this company," said another employee.
She nodded and thanked them for encouraging her.
However, it didn't end there. Some of the female employees bought her donuts and hot tea to fill her stomach.
Evelyne was very happy to have collagues like them. Even though they rarely communicated or she rarely hung out with them.
While doing her work, she ate the donuts and drank tea as people began to tidy up their things to go home.
She had also called Liliana to pick up Luke and take care of him as usual while she was working.
"Ughhh... My body hurts," she muttered as she stretched her body, feeling exhausted.
She looked at the wall clock; it was already 8:12 PM, and luckily, her work was almost done.
Grroowwll
Her stomach began to growl. She was really feeling so hungry. It was already past dinner time, and she had to use all her energy to work on those reports.
She didn't understand what was happening to him. He had just apologized, but why was that man suddenly staring at her with a sharp gaze again, as if she had just made a big mistake?
"Sometimes what he was thinking was really hard to read."
Once her work was done, she took all the folders to the office on the top floor where Tristan was still working.
She realized that they were the only two people working late on that floor. When she entered the room, Tristan immediately turned to her and took off his glasses.
"Have you finished everything?" he asked.
"Yes, sir. I've done everything you asked. Here are all the reports, information, and notes you might need," she replied, placing everything on his desk.
Tristan checked her work, then nodded in satisfaction after seeing the results. His eyes glanced up without lifting his head, seeing Evelyne's expression, which was flat but clearly tired.
"Sit down."
"Pardon?" Evelyne was a little surprised by his sudden order to sit down.
"I said sit down. Do I need to repeat myself twice?" he asked, staring at her.
Not understanding what he wanted, but Evelyne could only obey because she was his subordinate.
She sat down on the sofa in the office, waiting to see what Tristan would do next.
'He's not going to do anything bad, is he? It's just the two of us here. I have to stay alert.'
