As she talked, the more painful it was to listen.
I leaned back into my chair as she finally stopped, her gaze filled with pride and her chin raised as if she already knew the result. She was saying, 'Yes, aren't I so talented, so go ahead and hire me.'
Now I began to regret why I let her out of bars soon, did she think everyone had forgotten about the scandal she caused at the gala?
I glanced at the others seated. They had a deep frown on their faces, as if they had just eaten something foul.
Good. At least I wasn't the only one who thought her interview was total trash.
I cleared my throat, "Is that all? Miss. Zhen Rui?"
She rolled her eyes. "I don't want to speak to you."
So childish.
"Neither do I," I hummed. "But what do we do about this?" I glanced at the others, and they all gave me a strong shake of their heads.
Was it that bad?
I looked at Jing Xu, and he crossed his hands against his chest and mouthed a definitive "no."
Wow, but I really wanted her to be in the office though.
Think, Mo Yi.
"Miss. Zhen Rui," I called out. She snapped her head to me with the laziest of looks.
"I'm sorry, but we won't be able to offer you a manager position. You simply don't qualify for AURORA." I said simply, trying to be as nice as possible, even though I wanted to say, get out of the office.
"What?! Who gave you the right?!" she snarled, and Jing Xu thundered. "Miss. Zhen Rui!"
Zhen Rui swallowed her words, a scowl on her face. Her eyes spat fire at me, and I was so enjoying this. A cold smile tugged at my lips. How does it feel to be kissing my feet, bitch?
"But," I started, and everyone turned to me. "There is a position that would be most fitting for you."
I grinned, everyone mumbled among themselves but I ignored them.
She gritted her teeth. "And what position is that?!"
I tilted my head and gestured to Jing Xu. "We would like to offer you Assistant Chief of Staff."
He flinched, his face saying, What are you planning, Mrs. Mo?
"You want to give me a mere assistant job? What do you take me for—"
I brushed her off, feeling exhausted, "If you don't want the job, it's totally okay with me. There are others waiting in line." I lied.
She bit down on her lips, her jaws clenched. The more I looked at her pathetic taste, the more I loved it. She probably had no choice but to come here and ask for work to redeem her public image.
Mother and father might have forced her to do it because they know this is the only way.
Her plan was to use the launching to break the stigma on her public image, and I am here to not let that happen.
Let's see how you try.
"We don't have all day, Miss Zhen Rui." I clicked my tongue and watched her writhe under pressure, mumbling some incoherent words only her could understand.
After a visibly two minutes she finally unraveled.
"Fine. I will be the assistant chief of staff!"
As if we were begging you to, I clapped my hands as I stood. "Then that should be all right. Welcome to AURORA, Miss Zhen Rui."
I walked to her and offered her a handshake with a dark grin. She looked at the hand, visible disgust written all over her face.
Take the hand, bitch.
She must have sensed my rage, because she reluctantly accepted. I tightened my grip and pulled her in.
I whispered quietly, "Don't worry, sister. This big sister would take good care of you." She trembled, her eyes wide, but I wasn't taking my words back.
She had some words hanging at the tip of her tongue, but I shook my head giving her a stern warning.
I turned to Jing Xu. He had a dark look, as if what had just happened was against his professional integrity.
Oh? Jing Xu was becoming more bold and cute the more I worked with him.
"Jing Xu?" I called out, and he jerked. "Can you show Miss Zhen Rui around?" I asked with a warm smile.
He pressed his lips into a thin line and gestured Zhen Rui out of the boardroom. I followed them, not giving any of the directors a chance to speak.
I was about to walk into my office when I stopped. I was craving a coffee. If I stepped right into that office, I would be swamped with work. My body shivered thinking about it.
I shook my head, turned, and walked to the elevator.
Once I reached the last floor, I ignored everyone, responding only to greetings and heading for the cafe opposite the building.
My heels clicked loudly as I stepped out, the fresh scent of donuts hitting my nose. Just as I was about to use the pedestrian crossing, I ran into something hard that blocked my view.
I gasped, pulling away. I was about to shout the stranger's head off until I looked up and met with a familiar face I loathed.
My day just had to get worse.
"Zhen Yi!" he called out. My rage doubled, a vein pulsing in my head.
"And who are you calling Zhen Yi, Mr. Xiao Bo?" I asked, crossing my hands.
He glanced away, scratching the back of his head awkwardly. "Sorry for running into you, Mrs. Mo Yi," he softly uttered, his jaw clenched.
His eyes held defiance, but something more. It was guilt. I don't know why that would be there, but I didn't want to even listen to the reason or even care about.
"What do you want?" I snapped, my patience running thin.
An exasperated sigh escaped his lips. "Can you give me some of your time? We need to talk."
