Chapter 25 - Family Gifts

I swallowed. 

The rhythmic movement of the horse beneath us and the constant weight of his arm around my waist were the only things anchoring me to reality.

I shook my head

"I…I don't understand how that could be true," I finally said, my voice timid and fragile. I met his dark gaze, forcing the lie out. "I really don't feel anything for you, Yichen."

He let out a low, soft laugh that gently brushed against my ear. 

Did he realize that I had lied?

I bit down on my lower lips, my gaze returning to the beautiful sight before me, the scent of oranges filled the air. 

To be sincere, I loved the calming effect this ride was giving me. It reminded me of the countryside I craved. 

It gave me the perfect reality I wanted. 

And I hate to admit that being here with him only made it surreal.
