Chapter 7 - "He" deceived the sea itself

[Abilities: None]

Odysseus's [Eye of Wisdom] ability, granted to him by his mentor Athena, had failed once more.

"What the hell is happening...." He would mutter to himself while evading the sea monsters Poseidon had conjured up while attacking him with his Trident.

It seemed that the Sea God didn't possess a single skill. But that was impossible, as he was demonstrating supernatural powers right in front of him.

He would decide to use [Eye of Wisdom] once more to examine Poseidon's attributes and titles; maybe that was what gave him the power to command the seas.

But what he saw, stunned him to his core.

[Attributes:...]

On William's end things were going much better, he was able to fry the sea creatures from the inside without much effort. After finishing up, he would use one of the dead fish as a platform and activate his [Chariot] ability. Flying towards Poseidon at supersonic speeds with one goal in mind. Trust in his captain's intelligence and try to help him out.

When he got close to Odysseus, he would shout out to him

"Captain! What's the plan?"

"Distract him." Odysseus would reply calmly while staring at Poseidon.

William would listen to his captains words, as it was the only way he could think of to get out of here alive. Of course, if there was any obvious danger he wouldn't hesitate to run away as fast as he could. He was a coward sometimes aswell.

[Attribute: Linguist is activating!]

He would stand infront of Poseidon while using his best acting to sound as pitiful as a depressed onion cutting itself, attempting to get the sea god to show mercy on him, and say:

"Great Almighty Sea God, if this humble ant of a mortal may ask you a question. What is the true difference between reality and fiction?"

He would ask Poseidon a question that had no meaning to himself. Partially as a distraction, but also as a genuine question he wanted to know the answer to.

"Fiction is fake, Reality is real, simple. And your reality is about to end..."

Poseidon's voice would pierce William's eardrums, causing his knees to buckle. As he raised his Trident...

wait...his Trident? William suddenly felt a lightbulb flash above his head. He would raise his head to look at the trident coming down from above, from the corner of his eye he would see Odysseus flying towards Poseidon's arm from his blindspot, all but confirming his suspicion. And giving him a sudden spark of inspiration.

"Hey octopus, I think you seem to lack some vitamin D."

William would smile calmly as he activated [Sun Summoning]. A radiant ball of light and heat would appear infront of him, slowly expanding bigger and bigger. Poseidon's giant eyes would widen at the sight of it. The surrounding water would evaporate upon contact with it. He would then send the Artificial Sun towards Poseidon with everything he had. Before stumbling onto the ground, devoid of any Ingenuity.

"I'll leave it to you, cap'n."

Odysseus used the wind bag to fly at Poseidon's head, before unsheathing his blade. With Poseidon worried about the Sun attack, he had ignored the attack coming straight towards his arm. He would spin around to generate centrifugal force before drawing his sword and severing the arm completely, forcing Poseidon to drop his Trident.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Odysseus was confused as to why his three attempts at using the Eye of Wisdom didn't work until he scanned for attributes and titles instead.

[Attributes: Possessed(Curse), Sea God(Bestowed), Horse Tamer(Bestowed), Earthquake Wielder(Bestowed).]

Attributes could also allow the user to see their own status effects. Similar to the effects of a title, but different at the same time. This particular situation, would shatter the world of The Greek Mythos as people knew it.

[Title(s): Poseidon(Bestowed)]

As the gods....were fake. Poseidon was simply the title of the person who held the trident, and the same probably went for the other Olympians and their divine artifacts. Perhaps even his mentor, Athena.

This was a conspiracy that stretched across the entirety of Greece.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Back in the present, the Trident would fall to the ground with a resounding clang. "Poseidon" still seemed to be under it's control for the time being. However, it's power and influence was visually waning as "Poseidon" slowly started to shrink. Smaller and smaller, before turning into a skeleton. Perhaps the trident had granted him immortality, and now without it, they were just an ordinary corpse.

[You have vanquished "Poseidon"!]

[Rewards will be distributed evenly based on joint contributions!]

[A new title has been acquired!]

As this happened, William would watch as the Trident would start to move towards "Poseidon"s hand, like a magnet. But before it could get too far, someone's sandal would slam down on it, preventing it from getting anywhere.

William would let out a sigh of relief as his captain Odysseus would halt the rampaging Trident. Crisis Averted.

["Cursed Artifact: Trident that wields the Seas" Is activating Possession!]

...

Oh for the love of Zeus.

The Trident under Odysseus's foot would slowly start to meld with his sandal, then into his skin. His veins would glow a bright blue, as if imbued with the sea itself. As Odysseus let his guard down for a split second, the trident took the opportunity to find a new host.

Will-no Perimedes would watch as his former captain was absorbed by the Trident. He was just a mortal, and couldn't fight back in time.

William, completely out of Ingenuity. Couldn't do anything to stop it.

Completely out of options against the Trident that was slowly integrating with Odysseus's body, William would check the title he had received just now, out of pure desperation.

[Title: He Who Deceived The Seas Itself]

[Abilities: Grants the user heightened intelligence aswell as proficiency in lying and deceit. Grants even higher proficiency in deceit when the target is touching the sea or has water-based abilities active.]

How poetic....one thing he had desired his whole life, had been given to him at it's miserable end.

As he stared at the possessed body of his captain starting to move once more, a strange feeling overtook him. A familiar one. As he started to lose control over his body he would mutter out a name.

"Perimedes?"

William would confused to why he had decided to help him out, the terms of the contract showed that he didn't care if he died or not. Or did they? Now that he thought about it, Perimedes ignored his question on what he was exactly a few days earlier quite skillfully, but for what reason?

"I go by many names you runt. It's time you showed me some respect. Some know me as Perimedes, others Perimede. Some even say I'm Cunningness Incarnate. Pleased to meet you."

[Enchiridion of Deceit is descending into the body of 'Zhang Jiewei(William Wei)'!]
