Selene and Roxana take their seats in front of him. The whole atmosphere changed completely with a single question.
Selene begins to recount everything her servants reported about the Inquisition's movements in her territory.
Lucien listens to everything with a neutral expression; it is the first time he has heard anything related to the supernatural world.
"A trap... those worms are becoming more arrogant, that's why they're more active, something is going on behind the scenes," Roxana said in a neutral tone, unable to help thinking that they had a traitor among the vampires.
"That's right," Selene nods slightly. "According to my servants' report, they have been searching for Loic because he stole something very valuable from the Inquisition."
"Hmm... so it was a good idea to let him into your territory," he comments and crosses his legs, curious about that valuable "something" that the parasite stole... but what does that have to do with the trap they set for his wife, Roxana? He doesn't see the connection between them.
"Yes," Selene continues. "However, all that business with the Inquisition was just a cover to divert attention from the vampires who are looking to kill him."
He covers his mouth with one hand, appearing calm, but internally trying to process what he hears. 'Traitors, theft... Inquisition, heh~ I think I understand what's going on now.' He smiles as he realizes what is happening.
"So, Loic is a traitor and is working with the church, right?" he says, placing his hands in his lap.
"I see..." Roxana now understands why they set a trap for her at her house. "That bastard sold my location! I rejected him before, but I didn't expect that to cause the death of all my servants."
"But that's not all. Loic has a partner named Silas... Silas Vesper. Those two have recently been in contact with the Inquisition," Selene said.
"What!?" Lucien's eyes snap open, "Selene, did you just say... Silas Vesper?" A bloody aura emanates from his body.
"Yes, Silas Vesper..." She confirms and tilts her head to one side, "But... why are you so startled?" she asks, sensing his agitated emotions.
He recovers and collapses onto the sofa with a sigh. "Because that's the name of the owner of the company where I used to work..." he says in a neutral tone, but immediately realizes something he hadn't noticed until now.
He covers his mouth with a serious expression, "I see... the only ones who knew my mother was hospitalized were the people from the company... Ahh, that's why the Inquisition hunters were so close to the hospital..." he mutters to himself and connects the dots in his head.
"Damn it! I have to hurry!" He stands up and heads for the exit, his eyes glowing blood red.
"Wait, darling, what's wrong?" Selene catches up to him and looks at him with concern, not understanding what is wrong with her husband.
"My mother is in danger!" he shouts. His mother is in danger because of him! "Silas was the one who sold the information about my mother's location."
She looks at him, confused. What does her mother have to do with the vampire Silas? She doesn't understand.
He inhales and exhales, taking her by the shoulders: "When we went to visit my mother, didn't you think it was strange that they were so close to the hospital?" She nods, and he continues: "When I quit, I did it uniquely. Most likely, Silas discovered that I'm a newborn vampire and reported it."
"Oh... shit." Selene immediately realizes what's happening and shouts, "Luna!"
"She called me, my Lady." Luna appears from the shadows, her perfect servant's bearing.
"Come with darling," she orders her.
"Understood," Luna nods and slips into Lucien's shadow.
"I can't go with you, the sun is rising." Selene grabs him by the neck and gives him a long kiss on the lips, then pulls away. "Take care."
Lucien nods and leaves the house.
"It's okay for my husband to leave like this, it's almost dawn," said Roxana, looking out the window, worried.
Selene, who was already turning to leave, "You don't have to worry," she said proudly, tossing her hair as if in slow motion. "My darling is immune to the sun."
"Excuse me?" Roxana raised an eyebrow. "Your darling?" she corrected herself. "Our husband."
"Tsk." Selene clicked her tongue, crossing her arms. "How annoying people with possessiveness issues can be..."
Roxana smiled with false sweetness and flopped down on the sofa. "Sure, sure, keep repeating 'my darling' like a parrot, and maybe it'll become true."
Selene's eye twitched. 'I should kill this annoying bitch,' she thought with an angelic smile. But instead, she turned elegantly, lifted her chin, and announced, "I'm going to bed."
"Yes, sleep peacefully, I'll wait for Lucien like the good wife I am," Roxana replied with a smile.
Selene paused for a second... the air grew tense... but in the end, she just made a louder "tsk" sound and sat down on the sofa too.
Roxana looked at her, triumphant. "Coffee or warm blood while we wait for our husband?"
"My darling's blood," Selene replied, crossing her legs with a killer smile.
...
A light morning drizzle falls as the first golden rays of the sun pierce the sky.
Lucien is already arriving at the hospital, the light of dawn reflecting off his skin without burning him, with Luna in his shadow.
Before arriving, his eyes shine brightly, and his world turns red. He looks around for traps or Inquisition hunters... but sees nothing of the sort, so he slows down.
He arrives at the hospital, where nurses and doctors come out in their white coats, some with coffee in their hands and others with e-cigarettes.
He walks in and gets all kinds of looks until he reaches the counter.
"How can I help you?" asks the nurse with dark circles under her eyes, in a neutral tone.
"I've come to see my mother, Carmila Ricci," Lucien says, his eyes now red as blood, shining.
"It's very..."
"Once I see my mother, I'll leave with her, and you'll forget everything that's happening now." He interrupted her, staring into her eyes.
"Understood." The nurse responds in a robotic tone with an expressionless face.
He walks past her to room 15A, where his mother, Carmila, is.
The smell of cheap disinfectant reaches his nose, along with the beeping of the machines; he sees that his mother is fast asleep, as if nothing in the world could disturb her sleep.
"Hah..." Lucien lets out a sigh of relief. His mother was unharmed... but he knows this place is not safe for her. "Luna."
"Yes, Lord Lucien." She steps out of his shadow, although for some reason she feels that place is too comfortable.
"Is there any way to move my mother out of the hospital right now?" He doesn't want to leave her in this place; he's not going to make the stupid mistake of leaving the woman he loves most in the world exposed to danger.
"Yes."
He looked at his mother and then at Luna: "Do it right now," he ordered her.
"Yes, Lord Lucien." Luna takes out her phone and begins to talk.
'It seems like it was a false alarm, but it's best to move it somewhere else.' Lucien realizes he was careless. 'I have to avoid that. I don't want to become like Sasuke when his entire clan was destroyed.' This lightens his mood a little.
"Ready, Lord Lucien, they'll be here for your mother in five minutes," Luna reports, adjusting her glasses.
He smiles and strokes Luna's hair. "Thank you," he says sincerely... but then he realizes what just happened. 'Damn!' He did it unconsciously; it's a gesture his mother always makes with him.
He waited for Luna to say something, like, "Is it inappropriate for me to do that to a maid?" or something similar... however, she remained frozen.
"Luna?" Lucien looks at her, confused.
"!!!" She reacts with a slight blush and hides in his shadow.
'... I just looked at the blushing face of that maid.' He looks at his hand, as if he had all the power in that hand, like a certain purple character with a gauntlet encrusted with gems.
Suddenly, a strong, unpleasant smell hits you, as if a sewer had opened up in the middle of summer.
Lucien's expression hardened because he knew that smell was the one worn by the hunters of the Inquisition.
"Luna, protect my mother," he said coldly, his eyes shining brightly.
Luna steps out of her shadow, confused, but as an excellent servant, she doesn't hesitate for a moment. Suddenly, her shadow grows, covering the entire room, and then shrinks back again.
All the machines have disappeared, just like Carmila. She returns once again to Lucien's shadow.
Lucien leaves the room with a neutral expression, looking at his red world, watching as the hunters arrive at the hospital.
