Chapter 34 - CHAPTER 34: THE SAWYERS FAMILY 3 – AS LONG AS YOU ARE HAPPY!

The Sawyers family didn't have a lot of dining rules. They were, after all, a family that rose from the ashes. In families where everyone works from morning till night, the only time that they gather as a family is during dinner.

If they can't even chat during that time, then when would they have time to do so?

That was the same for the Sawyers family, despite being rich now.

So, during dinner, while ignoring the sparks between the sisters, Sonia and her father, Zack, were having a nice chat.

"When did you meet him?" As a father, he was quite curious about his son-in-law.

He wasn't the first and perhaps not the last, but that didn't make him less interested.

After all, this man was going to spend the rest of his life if fate didn't intervene with his beloved daughter.

As a father, he wanted nothing but the best for Sonia. She had suffered so much, and as a father, he was quite ashamed that he had to rely on her to be where he was.

The only thing he could do was support her and let her do whatever she wanted as long as she wasn't harmed.

He couldn't change any decision that Sonia made. It was all about understanding the other party.

It wasn't just him who was curious, but Letwin and Felinda as well.

For Letwin, just like Zack, she doesn't interfere with her children's relationships.

When she first saw Zack, she was still in college and saw him at his restaurant. It was love at first sight for her. Although Zack was widowed at the time, she couldn't help it. She pursued him boldly, and her family were very fierce and didn't want her to be with a widowed man who had a child.

They kept on clamoring on how difficult it was to be a stepmother, but her heart just wanted the man. What could be done?

Thankfully, Zack's feelings were the same. So, the two joined hands and fought side by side until the family finally agreed and let them be together.

After experiencing something like that, she didn't want her children to suffer because of love. What if, in that process, the partners let go, and her children suffer heartache?

She would become a great sinner, and her children would resent her to their graves. She didn't want that for herself or for them.

Her curiosity towards the eldest's marriage was simply because she didn't want Sonia to be sad. She had been hurt so many times because of love. What if this new husband approached her for money?

As for Felinda, she was very curious to know about this suspicious husband who came out of nowhere. One second, she and Sonia were fighting, and the next thing she knows, Sonia is trending and married.

Where did she get that man?

She felt suspicious of the whole thing.

So, when her father asked Sonia that question, her ears perked, waiting eagerly for the answer.

"At the club. Love at first sight," Sonia concisely answered as she dug into her food.

Three pairs of hands halted momentarily after hearing the answer. It was completely unexpected to be honest, but they quickly calmed down.

"How old is he?"

"Younger than me."

"Does he work?"

Sonia nodded as she responded, "Um, he does work and pretty well." Her answer was quite long, and it made Zack more curious.

It was rare for his daughter to be this engaged.

He asked several more questions, which Sonia answered either in a lengthy or precise manner, but she made sure that the three heard what was necessary.

"I hope that you are happy. You do understand that by marrying hastily like this, you have denied yourself a chance to get married again if things don't work out with him?"

Sonia put the fork on the plate and looked at her father calmly, her eyes having no ripples. It made Zack feel his heart ache.

It's been over a decade, and he can't even read his own child. He was truly a sinner.

"I know, but it doesn't matter. This is my last marriage, anyway. I don't plan to remarry," she truthfully said, recalling how Liam might be the person she had been looking for.

Even if he isn't, she was tired. If love fails again, then she might as well put all her luck into making more money. Rather than pursuing love, she would just pursue the pleasure of the flesh. It wasn't like she would die if she didn't marry, right?

When Zack heard that, he let out a long sigh, not knowing what to say to that, but as a father, he could only utter one sentence he had always told her in similar situations. "Just be happy. As long as you are happy, then Dad is happy!"

Sonia's eyes flickered momentarily, a shallow smile appearing on her face before she hummed, "Um, I will make sure to be happy."

"Good. Good!"

Felinda rolled her eyes as she listened to that.

The level of favoritism in her eyes was simply too high.

During the conversation, she didn't even hear anyone admonishing this suspicious husband, and yet when it comes to her, they dare chide her as if she had betrayed the country. How could the comparison be so huge?

After the meal, Letwin tried to keep Sonia home, hoping that the sisters would have a chat, but Sonia turned her stepmother down.

"Mother, I will sleep over when I bring my husband to meet you. He just moved in today, and I can't let him sleep alone there, can I?" Sonia couldn't bring herself to do that.

Besides, she was looking forward to Liam calling her wife. Her hands were quite itchy, and if she slept over at her parents, what about her happiness?

Hearing that, even if Letwin wanted to say something else, she could only swallow it.

One must never mess up with another person's marriage. She knew that pretty well.

In the end, she watched as Sonia's entourage left and helplessly looked at Felinda, who was scowling on the other side.

"What?" Felinda barked at her before storming off without giving her face.

Letwin shook her head as she thought to herself, 'I have spoiled her too much. I guess it will do her good if Sonia maintains her restrictions!'
