Nolan anticipated Miranda's arrival in his office.
The moment he left her with Clara, he recognized the fire in her eyes. Her fury was inevitable. Clara's lingering gaze had connected the dots between them. He should have maintained his usual demeanor, pretended she wasn't constantly on his mind, acted as if they hadn't spent nights exploring each other's bodies.
But he couldn't fake indifference anymore. While he wanted to declare their relationship openly, Miranda insisted on secrecy. For him, this wasn't just physical. Nolan craved something more substantial than a clandestine affair. He'd been planning this, wanting her, for too long to settle for anything less. Now he just needed to convince Miranda of his intentions.
So when she stormed in, slamming the door behind her with crossed arms and blazing eyes, he was prepared for her direct accusation: "You gave us away."
Nolan reclined in his chair, exhaling slowly, masking his emotions behind a calm facade.
