Miranda stared at her phone with a heavy sigh. The weekend loomed ahead like a storm cloud, and she knew her sisters would react exactly as she expected—badly.
Taking a deep breath, she pulled up her sister Collins's contact and hit call. The phone barely rang twice before Collins answered.
"Miranda?" Collins's voice was immediately laced with concern. "Is everything alright?"
"Nice to hear your voice too," Miranda replied dryly.
"Sorry, but you never call during work hours unless something's wrong. What happened?"
"Can you talk privately?" Miranda massaged her temples, feeling a headache brewing.
"Just a moment." Miranda heard Collins explaining to someone that she needed to take an important call. "Okay, I'm alone. What's going on?"
"Hold on, I'm adding Noelle to the call," Miranda said, connecting their youngest sister.
