Chapter 1 - Before the disaster

I can hardly believe it, but here I am.

Lost in thought, I found myself standing in front of the lecture hall where I was about to attend my very first university psychology class.

Psychology had always intrigued me. But let's be real, what truly sealed the deal? The program's overwhelming surplus of girls.

Yeah, I know. Total cliché. But even if you couldn't tell, I was still a virgin.

I'd tried a few times in high school, but nothing ever worked out. I still don't know why. A conspiracy, maybe? I mean, with my natural charm, they must've secretly agreed to ghost me just to avoid jealousy. That's clearly the only logical explanation.

But this year?

This year, I swear… my virginity won't survive the winter!

Just then, a group of girls walked past me. My eyes were drawn to them immediately, instinctively analyzing everything. I kinda missed the high school skirts, but even in jeans, they were still a sight for sore eyes.

Overflowing with confidence, Arima strutted into the lecture hall. So focused on his grand entrance, he didn't notice people subtly stepping aside, like he was giving off an aura of… extreme virginity.

I pushed open the doors to this estrogen paradise with my chest puffed out.

Farewell, purity! Haha!

— WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?! YOU'VE GOTTA BE KIDDING ME!

I froze, mouth hanging open.

Okay, yeah, there weren't a lot of guys… but WHY did they all look like male models? And more importantly, why were ALL the girls clinging to them?!

I tried to stay cool. No need to panic… If every Adonis here has his own fan club, then mine will come soon enough. Once I settle in, it'll be my turn. That's just basic logic.

I took a seat in the back row and closed my eyes, radiating confidence. When I opened them again… a harem would be waiting. I was sure of it.

They've got the looks, I've got the charisma. These poor mortals don't stand a chance. Haha.

I could already hear their voices:

"Wow, who's that mysterious guy?"

"I saw him first!"

"No! He's mine!"

Don't worry, ladies—I've got enough libido for everyone.

A few meters away, a group of girls actually was talking.

— Isn't that the guy who was checking out our butts for ten minutes this morning?

— I think so. There's no one else that weird.

— Gross. Total creep. I'm staying far away.

Hmm. A pervert nearby? I hadn't noticed anyone shady near my row. It's serious that guys like that can even get into university. Honestly, it gave me chills. I thought to myself, still with my eyes closed.

(He didn't even think about the possibility that it was him…)

Five minutes later, I decided it was time. I opened my eyes.

— Alright, ladies, no need to fight, there's plenty of me to go arou—

— WHAT?!

A strangled scream escaped me.

IMPOSSIBLE… There's not a single girl… on MY ENTIRE ROW?! I even looked under the seats, maybe there was a really short girl hiding or something…

Nope… Nothing. Absolutely no one.

I shot a deadly glare at the handsome guys up front.

YOU'RE STEALING MY DREAM! MY HAREM!

Do you know how long I've waited for this moment? I—I'm sure they must have come up with some kind of plan to keep all the girls away from me.

While I had my eyes closed, they must've panicked, those jerks somehow stopped the girls from coming over! I mean, I don't care if they sabotage their rival, but have they even thought about the girls' feelings? Keeping them from seeing me—how is that not cruel? Do they not care about hurting women?!

— YOU BASTARDS, I'M GOING TO KILL YOU!

— YOU BASTARDS, I'M GOING TO KILL YOU!

…Huh?

As I angrily banged my head against the desk, I heard the exact same line come from two seats away.

I turned and saw a guy in the same pose. Pathetic. No wonder he's failing with girls, this guy doesn't even know how to behave. I nearly laughed.

The boy next to him turned around, and their eyes locked for five long seconds.

They both thought the same thing:

"It's because of this loser that the girls didn't come near me… Have you seen his face? Total virgin, obviously."

And with the same burst of narcissistic denial:

"Well, whatever, you need guys like him to make guys like me look good, haha."

They turned away at the same time, wearing smug smiles that said:

"Check out who I'm sitting next to, not an animal, but close enough, right?"

They kept this little charade going until the end of class…

This first class?

I didn't hear a single word. I was too busy watching the guys brag and try to show off, while I clenched my fists, glaring at them.

Finally, the bell rang. I headed toward the cafeteria; the signs said it wasn't far.

As I walked, I thought about what a disaster this morning had been. I caught snippets of conversation here and there.

— Did you hear?

— What?

— Rentaro left class because of some psycho!

— Rentaro? That hot football guy who transferred into psychology this year?

— Yeah, him! Apparently, some creepy dude stared at him the whole time. Like, intensely. So he faked being sick and left.

Wow. Honestly, I didn't expect this university to be so dangerous. They really need to screen students better. If this keeps up, I might have to report it to the administration myself, just to make sure things stay peaceful.

A pervert, a psycho… what's next? A stalker?

Despite the signs, I couldn't find the damn cafeteria. It was too embarrassing to ask anyone, so I just decided to discreetly follow a girl and hope she led the way. Unfortunately, she didn't know the way to the cafeteria, so I had to follow her to several places before we reached our destination.

A few minutes later, I finally made it.

What I didn't know yet… was that this moment would change my school life forever and would drag me, completely against my will, into the Virgin Games, alongside five assholes who would become… my friends.
