I was about to close my eyes to accept my fate, but in less than a second, the Zombies that were approaching me fell one by one. Someone was shooting them from behind me, so I turned around.
And to my surprise, the three were already here beside me while still shooting those who would try to approach us.
Are they... protecting me?
What the hell?
"What the hell are you still doing here?" I asked them irritably.
I wanted to shout at them that I can fight alone, but no words came out of my mouth except for that question, so I just roamed my eyes at the people and zombies rioting.
I swear, anyone who ends up in my position right now would just run away in fear.
"If you're the one who's not thinking and suddenly running to meet the enemies, do you think our conscience will allow us to just let you be?" I heard Xavier's reasoning, so I bowed my head, he's right. I wasn't thinking.
"And our parents didn't raise us to just let a person be in danger, if we have a way to save them," our 'supposed' pilot, Matt, said.
I was about to feel guilty when the person on the first list of people I hate suddenly spoke.
"Don't be stupid, Miss," That's all the man I just met, Ali, said with a hint of teasing. I was about to tell him what my name was again.
Like the heck? My name is Alice and not Miss!
But I immediately interrupted-
"Where are you going and we'll take you there!" Xavier shouted at me because the noise made by the people and those attacking them was getting louder and louder.
God! How I hate this scene now.
Seeing the people rioting, hurting each other because of fighting over cars that I don't know who owns, just made me so sick.
The people and zombies are so chaotic.
Some are colliding and whoever falls is the one the zombies will get. Scared and panicking, that's the emotion I see in the eyes of the people now.
I really want to help but I don't know how, but I was relieved when I saw my three companions also trying to help take down the many zombies that would attack whoever.
And before I forget Xavier's question, I immediately pointed to my brother's location, who still hasn't noticed me until now because he's still able to kill the zombies that seem to never run out of attacking him.
"Ok. We'll go to him,"
Ali said with a scary aura enveloping him now.
I don't know, but this is the first time I've been scared of a person other than zombies.
Earlier, he was just like a child complaining to his parents, but now, the expression on his face suddenly changed.
Split personality?
I just nodded in response, even though I knew they wouldn't see it because the two were already in front--Matt and Xavier. Ali was behind me, also with his back turned to me while releasing loud gunshots from the gun he was holding.
Kuya!
I wanted to call Kuya, but I don't want to attract more zombies because of my stupidity. Just like earlier, twice is enough and I don't want that to happen again.
Before I could call kuya Erros, he beat me to it because his eyes also caught our location.
"AC!" he shouted while running towards my direction. He hugged me tightly and so did I to him.
Thank god he's still alive.
"Aww tol! He already has one. I pity you tol hahaha"
"I'll prepare your funeral later bro. Double kill!"
"Ulol!"
I heard the three whispering.
"Hey, are you okay? I thought you were in the hospital. Are you still sick?" kuya Erros asked me worriedly.
"I'm okay, Kuya," I answered him so he wouldn't worry anymore.
I heard my three companions gasp.
"Crazy! He's her Kuya ehh.."
"Yes bro! You still have hope haha"
"Yeah right? They look alike."
I no longer paid attention to the three whispering when Kuya looked at me again and still seemed unable to believe that I was okay.
Even I didn't expect that I would recover immediately. Just last night I called Kuya to let him know that I was sick and now it's like my wilting body from yesterday suddenly disappeared.
I got easily recovered unexpectedly.
Kuya Erros diverted him and gazed at the three people when he heard their voices and who whispering secretly behind my back.
"Who are these, AC?" he immediately asked.
"I met them while I was going here. They also saved me and helped me get here. He is Xavier, Matt, and Ali."
While I was introducing them to kuya, they continued to shoot the approaching zombies, so they just greeted with a nod, wave and hi.
There's no need for a formal introduction if this kind of disaster is happening around you, kuya just nodded at them.
"I'm Erros Gordon. Alice big brother," kuya also introduced.
"Kuya.. our family?"
"Hush, AC. They're perfectly fine, before I go down to the ground I called them immediately and quickly warned them about the strange happening here. This outbreak was only happening here in Manila, which means that Albay is not yet prone to this commotion," he said and even looked around before continuing what he was going to say, "I already told them to go to the safest place as much as possible. We'll go to them together, so we need to survive, alright?"
I just nodded in agreement to what he said. I don't know what else to feel, when I'm alone I become strong and I can fight. But when there are people around me, especially my family, I suddenly become weak and look defenseless.
And I hate that feeling.
"Sorry to interrupt your drama, but we need to get out of here if you can't finish off these smelly creatures that keep attacking us!"
We both looked at Ali, who seemed to be unfazed by shooting the zombies. Seeing that I was looking at him, he just rolled his eyes at me.
"We have a Helicopter there. Come with us so we can help you get to wherever you're going," Matt said to us.
And he pointed to the Helicopter we rode earlier, which was far away from us. It's a good thing that no one notices and tries to steal it.
We all ran towards it, but we just stopped running when an SUV and a car collided in front of us.
I stepped back when some infected came out from inside and started attacking us. Kuya immediately put me behind him while they were all simultaneously taking down the zombies.
I looked around again and just happened to catch sight of the location of the mother and children who were a little far from our place. A mother, and two children who were constantly crying, they were running fast because there was also someone chasing them.
Sh*t!
Why can't I do anything? Am I just going to stand here?
Because of frustration, I was about to mess up my hair when I noticed that I was holding something hard.
A gun?
The hell? Why did I only notice this now?!
And there I remembered that Ali handed me a gun while we were in the helicopter earlier. I didn't realize that I was already holding it and had been carrying it since earlier and what's worse is that I didn't even notice it!
God, Alice!
You're so stupid!
I didn't let the opportunity pass and I quickly peeked at the three and Kuya who were all busy with those attacking them. That's good.
Knowing that they weren't looking at me, I immediately pointed the gun I was holding at the three zombies who were chasing the mother and children.
I stay focused on them and quickly pulled the trigger.
I hit one.
1 down,
I focused the gun on another one and immediately pulled the trigger.
2 down,
I just really hope that my suspicion is correct that there are not only two bullets in this gun that that gay Ali gave me. If not, I will really hit him on the head with this gun. One left.. one left...
I almost jumped for joy when I hit them all.
The eyes of the mother and children immediately turned to my place.
Their mother gave me a tired smile, I nodded to her then mouthed to her 'Go'.
"What the f*ck?" I looked at kuya because of that shout. I almost rolled my eyes when I found out that he was the one who shouted at me.
"Where the hell did you learn that!" he hysterically asked.
I wanted to roll my eyes at him or argue with him and say that I'm not a child anymore and I can hold a gun but, I'm in reality now, where everything is chaotic and even the people around us are not scrambling to run.
"I'll explain it to you later," I just replied to him.
And again, I heard someone shout that was more dominant than the shouts of the people.
"Hey! That's ours!" I heard Matt shout.
"F*ck," Ali followed with a loud curse.
They were looking in the direction of the helicopter that we were supposed to go to. I also looked at it and I saw a man who was not far from our age. He was already inside the aircraft and was panicking while he was tinkering with the buttons inside the Helicopter.
Wait...
Sh*t!
Now I realized his plan.
He was trying to steal the aircraft from us!
Sh*t!
I was also about to attack him but I and the others stopped because kuya stopped us.
"Don't! Just let him. I know him and he's a psycho man who was my co-trainer back then. He killed one of our officemates for an unknown reason and he became worst. He just released this day and just a piece of advice, he will not think twice to end your life if you step in on his side," Kuya stated.
My hairs stood on end at what kuya said, there's even a person like that. Heartless and with a dark conscience.
There was nothing we could do and just watched the crazy man slowly lift off the ground while releasing loud laughter. He was like a demon who had won his evil plan, and even though I only heard it now, I just wanted to cover my ears.
While he was lifting off the ground, we were also slowly losing hope to escape from the zombies.
That's what we thought...
When a zombie quickly got hooked on the feet of the helicopter and another one followed while holding on to its feet, until it became many and we didn't know that it would also be his end.
Expect the unexpected because of the weight brought by the many creatures clinging to the helicopter, it swayed until it couldn't handle it anymore and completely lost control.
"AC, get down!"
"Sht! Sht!"
"It's going to fall here, d*mn."
Sh*t! I just realized that I was lying down and heard the loud explosion from below.
It was too late to cover my ears since I already heard the loud explosion of the crashed aircraft.
I felt like I was deaf because of that, but I felt a warm hand on my shoulder, when I looked to see who it was, my eyes widened, it was A-Ali.
I never expected him to be at my side.
My heart was beating so fast and I don't know why, it's not like earlier that I was so scared, it's different right now.
I immediately dismissed that thought when he quickly pulled me closer to Xavier and Matt who were already far from us. Where's kuya?
I looked around because kuya was missing.
We were running faster and faster because more and more zombies were chasing us.
"He's on our back!" I heard Ali shout.
Even though I wasn't sure who Ali was talking to, I immediately looked behind me and there I saw kuya who was still shooting those who were chasing us.
What now?
"Bro, I'm out of bullets!" Xavier shouted to Ali.
"I'm out of bullets too," I heard Matt complained too.
"Run. Let's go to that SUV from earlier!" kuya shouted to us.
I looked for the SUV that collided with a car earlier. It was easy for me to find it because we haven't gone far from it.
We quickly ran towards it.
"Sit in the front seat, AC. I'll drive," Erros ordered me.
I nodded to him and opened the passenger door.
When I got in, I first tucked the gun I was holding into my pocket. I felt the three of our companions also get in.
"F*ck! What are those things?!" kuya asked frantically while starting the engine of the car.
"We have no idea either," Matt answered who was in the middle of Xavier and Ali.
I was just silent while watching the time.
It's 6 pm already and it's dark but until now the chaos outside this SUV is still clearly visible.
Every building is smoking because of the fire there's still a little light because of the moon, people and zombies are still rioting, and now the fear I'm feeling is still not gone.
I don't need to ask what those attacking us are because Ali already told me that they're zombies.
The only two questions that are bothering me are where did they come from? and how did there become such things in Manila or should I say, in the Philippines?
My questioning was immediately erased when the engine of the SUV started. It's dark inside the car, the light inside it must have been broken but every glass on the windows is still fine.
I was about to lean on the backrest of the car but I was shocked when—
