Darkness and only the sound of dripping water were what we could hear. It was a good thing we brought flashlights in each of our bags, if not, we would probably be groping around here because of the darkness and we could hardly see anything.
It's creeping me out everytime that a big rat suddenly passes in front of us. Xavier and Ali almost jumped in fear, but they were able to control it somehow.
Again, there were no traces of zombies around, and this is what I'm more afraid of because they might just be around and waiting for the right moment to attack us.
Here we go again, Alice. Being paranoid as always.
"If we go straight. The weapons that the police are hiding are there." Drew pointed to the dark hallway in front of us.
"On the left from here, you will see the old door of their Chief's office. The map of the Philippines-I mean- the map of Marikina is there," he continued.
We didn't hesitate and agreed to separate so the plan would be easier.
"Xavier, Matt and You. You're the ones who will look for weapons. My sister and I will take care of getting the map with this one! Is that clear?" kuya decided.
The three agreed. And Ali's silence now is surprising. He was just giving Drew a bad look and not kuya now.
"We'll take care of it. We're experts at that. Let's just meet here again, Pre and Alice babe, take care," Xavier said goodbye.
Kuya didn't pay attention to Xavier calling me 'babe' he's probably used to it. I nodded to the three of them, I still wanted to encourage them but it looks like they don't need it.
"You three too. Now move," kuya said.
We nodded to each other again before separating. The three went straight to the hallway while kuya and I followed Drew into the left door. It made a little noise, Drew was leading in entering, followed by kuya, then me.
Using our flashlights, we immediately looked around the entire office. It's a bit spacious but very messy. In less than three minutes of searching, we were able to see the small map of Marikina, which was attached to the wall near the broken window of the chief and Drew immediately took it off.
The two of us approached him. Kuya extended his hand to Drew. A sign that he was asking for the map in the man's hand.
But instead of giving it to us, he immediately hid it behind him which made kuya angry.
"I'm not kidding with you kid. Give that map to me," kuya threatened. Drew smirked mockingly and brought his face closer to kuya. Only the table was the distance between them.
"Before I give it to you, face Chief first. He's been very hungry since earlier eh. Thanks for the info by the way, now I know where I'm going," he whispered to kuya and he even laughed loudly followed by the soft noise I heard behind me until it got louder and louder. I looked at it and my lips parted because of what I saw.
"Hi Chief! Here's your dinner, still warm!" he said and it was too late when kuya was about to attack the traitor but he had already escaped and left the door ajar. Kuya pulled me to his back while we were walking backwards.
"My hunch is right! He's a traitor, f*ck! AC dodge!" he shouted.
Kuya and I rolled to the side at the same time when the Chief of the station who was now a zombie tried to touch us.
It was twice as big as us. Its height was more than 10 inches higher than kuya so we almost broke our necks looking up at him. His eyes were glaring and his saliva was dripping as if he was very hungry while looking at us and it was like we were the only ones who could get rid of that hunger. He looked like a wrestler because of the size of his muscle, his stomach was also big and was bouncing.
Sh*t!
But we had an advantage because the police chief was chained and was only a few inches away from kuya and me. But he can still reach the door so we can't just escape if we don't face him.
"I will fight him and while he's busy to me, you need to run and---" I quickly cut his words.
"Don't act like a hero, kuya. We can take him down, so if possible stand up there and let's look for weapons!" I cut what he was going to say.
Even though my knees were trembling and I was losing heart, I still wanted to look strong in front of kuya. I don't want to be weak.
Not now..
Kuya smiled because of what I said. From being slumped, he quickly stood up and prepared his baseball bat that he was still holding until now. I'm the one who has no weapons.
Kuya quickly approached the chief and hit him with his baseball bat. On his arm, stomach or knees. Kuya dodged when he was the one being attacked.
But no matter how much kuya hit, it had no effect on the zombie. I looked at the door and the chief was also far away from it, but I don't want to be a coward and just leave kuya fighting alone.
While I was leaning on the chief's table. My hands were trembling while roaming it and whatever I touched was what I would throw at the chief, even paper that couldn't even reach his direction.
"Get out of here Alice, please!" kuya ordered me. He probably also felt that we had no match for the chief who was twice as strong compared to us.
My tears were welling up because I felt so weak while kuya had already sustained wounds and was still not stopping from attacking the chief.
"I can't leave-" before I could continue what I was going to say, I immediately stopped when I touched something cold. My eyes widened when I saw what it was.
A gun...
"Erros, duck!" I shouted to him and quickly pointed the gun at the chief.
"What?" His eyes widened when he saw what I was holding. He ducked and immediately hid.
I pulled the trigger at the same time as the creature gaping. The gunshot echoed and it was like a rhythm because after that was the loud impact of the chief falling.
Kuya and I were stunned for a few seconds. But I immediately came to my senses when kuya suddenly took the gun I was holding while pulling me out of the door.
"Next time. I will never ever let you use gun ag--" he started to lecture me but we immediately stopped when we saw the traitor Drew on our right, who was lying on the floor while a female guard was on top of him who was wearing so short that she was almost flashing him.
"H-help m-me.." he desperately asked our help despite of what he did to us.
Kuya and I exchanged glances before returning our gaze to the man who was obviously having a hard time avoiding the mouth of the female zombie who was trying to reach him to bite him. I wanted to laugh at him because karma was so fast on him. Earlier we were in a dangerous situation, now it's him.
It's not surprising that kuya helped the man. He kicked the woman away from the man and before the lady could attack us, he immediately pulled the trigger to it. It was sprawled while its eyes and mouth were still open.
It looks like I'm getting used to the sound of the gun, the disgusting faces of the zombies and the brutality of my companions. We have no choice. If we don't kill them, they will be the ones to finish us.
The man quickly backed away from the woman and was stunned while catching his breath.
"Now, give that map to us, criminal. My patience is not as long as your chin," kuya's voice was restraining while saying that.
But the one seemed to be traumatized by what happened to him and didn't notice kuya's insult to him. Kuya let out a loud sigh and reached out his right fist to Drew.
"Here, take my hand," kuya was calm now while his hand was still waiting for the man. Drew looked up in disbelief and looked at kuya in shock.
Even I didn't expect that he would still help the man who put us in a dangerous situation. He lied to us and trap us inside that chief f*cking room!
I want to take a revenge. But I know that my revenge will not do anything because I will just be like him, and revenge is not a solution to this d*mn situation.
He take my kuya's hand and kuya pulled him up. He was stunned for a few seconds before handing us what he stole, the map. Kuya immediately took it, the man's mouth opened.
"S-sorr--"
But before he could finish what he was going to say, we heard a deafening explosion followed by gunshots and noisy shoes running towards our direction. We immediately looked behind me while still hearing those noises.
I just remembered now that we still had companions. Xavier, Matt and-- what the?
I frowned when I saw Ali running fast towards us. He was carrying the weapons while his flashlight was swaying to where.
Darkened again at his back. It was shouting something but I couldn't understand especially with the explosion that was happening. Our distance was also far from them.
Following him was Matt and Xavier who were also running. It was obvious that they had been running since earlier. I also didn't miss Xavier stopping from running and facing his back, then he suddenly threw the round thing he was holding there, a bomb.
Then they continued to run again and were shouting again.
"What the hell is he saying?"
kuya asked in surprise behind me.
My frown deepened even more when Ali signaled again with his hand. And I'm getting annoyed because I can't understand him. Can they just stop throwing that bomb so that we can hear and understand each other?!
"Som...Bee?" I heard one of our companions whisper.
I looked at Drew who was also looking at Ali now while frowning, and was trying to understand what the man was shouting...
Wait...
"Sombee...." I utter and when I realized what it means I immediately turn to Ali's side and pointed my flashlight to their back.
Sh*t!
"Zombie!" Ali shouted.
Now I can clearly hear Ali's shout, and I can also clearly see the battalion of zombies that were chasing them. Mix of detainee and police!
"There.. are so many of them...." Drew whispered now.
Kuya immediately positioned himself in front of us and was targeting the creatures behind the three with his gun one by one.
"Go to the door and open it!"
Drew and I had no time to know who kuya was ordering, because we both panicked and quickly ran to the backdoor of the police station.
I quickly approached it and held the doorknob then pulled it to open it.
But I can't open it no matter how I tried! What the hell is happening to this door?!
I looked at kuya Erros who now had the three and were busy shooting those who wanted to attack us. While the zombies were getting closer, the number of them was also decreasing. They were now using the weapons they got. I looked at Drew first who was stunned again, before I said the very big problem.
"I can't open the door."
I said trembling.
"What?!" the four of them shouted that at the same time.
I immediately felt annoyed at them for shouting at me.
"Did you all just... yell at me?!" I also shouted at them. They could have not shout 'cause I'm starting to hate this situation right now.
Who even wants this situation?!
They were obviously shocked by my shout but they immediately recovered because kuya quickly went to the door and tried to open it.
"Maybe you're just not pulling it right!" Xavier said who was now very serious. The three of them were still busy shooting. Kuya tried to open the door a few more times but it really couldn't be opened.
"It's not opening! Gddmit it!" kuya shouted frustrated.
While I was trying to calm myself. Calm down Alice... there's still a way... think!
"T--that d-door is b-broken.."
"What?" Now I also joined in shouting because of what Drew said.
"What do you mean huh? We opened this earlier so why the hell it's damage?" I asked him angrily.
I'm losing my temper now.
And my hope too.
