Before she could return to reality, the memories of the previous night lingered in Komal's mind. After that Sunday argument, when Komal had gotten out of the car, Rahul had coaxed her. He had sworn, "Komal, I don't even talk to Tanya. I love you only and will marry you."
Komal had believed him, but a nagging doubt remained.
On Sunday, when Komal went shopping, she saw something that shook her to her core. Rahul and Tanya were together. Komal followed them silently. She saw them laughing in the cinema hall, walking hand in hand through the mall. Rahul's face, which had feigned love for Komal, was filled with greed in front of Tanya. Rahul thought to himself, "
Komal was just a condition, but Tanya is a treasure."
While following, Komal had also seen Aryan at the metro station. It was afternoon. Aryan, lost in deep thought, was taking the metro towards his home. Komal glanced at Aryan for a moment, but her entire focus was on Rahul's infidelity. She saw Rahul and Tanya finally leave for a hotel. That night, everything was over for Komal.
Komal still sat there, a statue in shock, at her office desk. Aryan stood beside her.
"Komal... Komal?" Aryan called out two or three times.
On the third try, Komal regained consciousness. There was a strange moisture and fatigue in her eyes. "Yes... yes, Aryan, bring me coffee. I couldn't sleep well last night," she said in a trembling voice.
Her eyes turned bloodshot. "
Couldn't I sleep last night?"
Dirty thoughts raced through Aryan's mind. He thought that perhaps Komal and Rahul had been together all night. He didn't know that Komal was awake, mourning Rahul's infidelity.
A volcano was erupting in Aryan's mind. He clenched his fists. "Did Rahul touch her? Did they both...?"
Aryan's anger wasn't just directed at Rahul, but also at Komal's helplessness. He couldn't bear Komal's quiet, waiting for him.
Aryan turned away on the pretext of getting coffee, but there was a predatory force in his movements. He spotted Rahul from a distance, sitting at his desk, texting Tanya and smiling.
Aryan stood near the coffee machine and thought coldly,
"Komal has to tell me all this. If Komal can't sleep because of him, then Rahul will be forever."
Aryan bought Komal coffee, but he crushed a small white pill from his pocket and mixed it into the coffee.
