Arks' POV
My queen, where are you? The ache in my chest intensifies with each passing day. I cannot rule with a clear mind or heart until I find you. My power rages, a beast that threatens to consume me. Everyone fears me, and I don't blame them. This emptiness is a void that cannot be filled until I fulfill nura and reconcile with my soul mate.
I stripped myself naked, the cool air a stark contrast to the fire burning within me. The maids had prepared my bath, adding a hint of lavender to calm my frazzled nerves. I sank into the warmth, letting it envelop me, but even the soothing water couldn't calm the storm raging inside me.
I rose, donning my robe, and lay on my bed, the softness of the sheets a poor substitute for the warmth I truly craved. Tonight, I would forgo magic and let my mind wander, imagining a life with my queen by my side. Perhaps, in the silence, I would find a glimmer of hope.
Eliana's POV
Shoot! I spranged up from my messy bed, my afro hair a wild tangle. I was running late, and I knew it. I rushed to the bathroom, catching a glimpse of myself in the mirror. Yep, I looked like a hot mess. My eyes were bleary from lack of sleep, and my clothes were rumpled from a long day of juggling work and classes.
I had three part-time jobs to juggle, and I was determined to make it work. I was in New York to make a better life for myself and my mom, and I wouldn't let anything get in my way. I quickly did my morning routine, grabbed my bag, and locked my studio-sized apartment.
As I stepped out onto the bustling street, I flagged down a cab and slid into the worn leather seat, giving the driver the address of my university. I stared at the passing scenery, watching the sunrise reflect off the busy street. The city was alive, and I was ready to take on whatever it threw my way.
I slid into class just as the professor was starting, trying not to draw attention to myself. Amy raised an eyebrow, and I matted a "later" in return. My heart was racing from my tardiness, but Amy just smiled and handed me a coffee.
After class, Amy cornered me, her blue eyes sparkling with concern. "I looked all over for you yesterday," she said, her voice low but accusatory.
I winced, feeling a pang of guilt. Sorry, one of my co workers have given birth. I had an early shift, and my phone died. Sorry, Ames."
Amy's face softened, and she patted my back. It's okay, I was worried, that's all.
As we headed to the cafeteria, I bumped into someone, and hot coffee spilled all over my shirt. I let out a pained yelp...
