Chapter 7 - The King's soul mate?

Eliana's Pov

I took a moment to collect myself, my eyes scanning my surrounding. The interior of the spaceship was a maze of sleek, curved corridors and flickering overhead lights. As l pushed myself from the hatch, my gaze landed on the control panel. Screens flickered to life displaying series of data and images. How do you know my name, l demanded. The leader, a tall imposing figure with a scar above his right eyebrow turned to face me. Eliana, we have been searching for you for a long time, he said. I narrowed my eyes, who are you? What do you want from me?

Something about them felt off, like they were not human. I wasn't dumb considering the fact that l was literally inside a freakishly massive spaceship. My name is Xathah and l am from a world called Polarie, a planet that exists far beyond. What am l hearing? Another planet? What is he talking about? I was beyond puzzled and terrified as well. Why is everyone becoming like this? Did you cause it?

No, it's a lot to take in, l know. But l can assure you that we are not the culprits. As l looked into his eyes,l saw something there that gave me a pause. A sense of recognition, as though l have known him all along but was only remembering. Why? I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. Why did you come for me? His expression turned serious, because you are the key to saving the universe. Have you thought about why you are not infected? Because you are different. The virus doesn't affect you like it does to others even though you are genetically black. Instead of turning you into a mindless puppet, it has adapted to you. It has become a part of you granting you a....let's call it a gift. My curiosity piqued as l leaned forward. What gift?

Xathah's eyes brightened, you have the ability to calm zombies, Eliana. To soothe their rage and bring them back from the brink. You can help them restore their sanity. How....how is that possible? I asked confused. He smiled, a hint of awe in his voice. That's part of your power. Your brain chemistry produces a unique frequency that resonates with the virus, more like a key unlocking the humanity that is left in them. My eyes widened as the pieces clicked together. You want me to broadcast this frequency to calm the zombies? He nodded, his expression serious. We have a device, a transmitter that can amplify your frequency. With it, we can calm the infected, maybe find a way to reverse the effects. There's more, Eliana. He took a step closer. You see, the king, our ruler has a burden. A power that has grown too great for him to control. He has been searching for someone, someone with the strength and the heart to help him harness it. My heart skipped a beat as he dropped to one knee, his eyes never leaving mine. You are that someone. You are the King's soul mate. And with you by his side, he can finally unlock his true potential. My mind reeled, soul mate? Kings power?

I felt as though l had stumbled into a fantasy novel. Xathah continued, his voice filled with conviction, the King's power is tied to the land. But it is growing too strong, threatening to consume him. You Eliana, have the ability to ground him, to balance his power and keep him from losing himself to it. My heart sanked as l realised the enormity of what he was saying.
