I whipped around immediately, looking for the man who was in shadows. "Such a genius invention, whoever made the watch must have been truly genius." he said.
He stepped out of the shadows, and it was... Quintus!?
He chuckled "I assume you didn't expect me? Most do not. I am Daedalus."
"But you are not an inventor!" Percy blurted out. "You're a swordsman!"
He raised one of his eyebrows "I am both. Swordplay was one skill I picked upon when I was living for 2000 years. I am also an architect, and a scholar, and I am also a master basketball player? Are you surprised? A person can pick up any skill given enough time. Some people also have some inborn talent that is harder to master for other people."
"That's true," Rachel said. "Like I can paint with my feet as well as my hands."
"You see?" Quintus said. "A girl of many talents."
"But you don't even look like Daedalus," I pointed out. I looked at Percy for support.
He had a look of horror on his face. He gulped and started slowly "If those dreams were true... Then you're- are..."
"You guessed it correctly. I am an automaton." he said while mock bowing. "I worked upon the works that Perdix had tried to do. I transferred my Anima, my Soul to an automaton to survive."

"But... But it's not possible!" Annabeth protested. He replied in a bored voice "We live in a Greek world. Anything is possible, my dear. Deal with it."
He sighed "An automaton does not last for long. This is my 5th body, Quintus in Greek means 5."
"You really are Daedalus," I decided. "But why did you come to the camp? Why spy on us?"
"To see if your camp was worth saving. Luke had given me one story. I preferred to come to my own
conclusions." he replied wearily
"So you have talked to Luke." Percy accused
"Oh, yes. Several times. He is quite persuasive." he answered nonchalantly
"But now you've seen the camp!" Annabeth persisted. "So you know we need your help. You can't let
Luke through the maze!"
Daedalus set his sword on the workbench. "The maze is no longer mine to control, Annabeth Chase. I created it, yes. In fact, it is tied to my life force. But I have allowed it to live and grow on its own. That is the price I paid for my privacy."
"Privacy from what?" I asked
"The gods," he answered "And death. I have been alive for two millennia, my boy, hiding from death." he answered, looking regretful
"But how can you hide from Hades?" Percy asked, confused "I mean...Hades has the Furies. They oversee who has to die."
"They do not know everything," Daedalus said. "Or see everything. You have encountered them, Percy. You know this is true. A clever man can hide quite a long time, and I have buried myself very deep. Only my greatest enemy has kept after me, and even him I have thwarted."
"You mean Minos, don't you?" Percy said. I got confused. Who was Minos? It wasn't the time to ponder who he was now.
Daedalus nodded at Percy's question "He hunts for me relentlessly. Now that he is a judge of the dead, he would like nothing better than for me to come before him so he can punish me for my crimes. After the daughters of Cocalus killed him, Minos's
ghost began torturing me in my dreams. He promised that he would hunt me down. I did the only thing
I could. I retreated from the world completely. I descended into my Labyrinth. I decided this would be my ultimate accomplishment: I would cheat death."

"And you did," Annabeth marveled, "for two thousand years." She sounded kind of impressed, despite the horrible things Daedalus had done. Just then a loud bark echoed from the corridor. I heard the ba-BUMP, ba- BUMP, ba-BUMP of huge paws, and Mrs. O'Leary bounded into the workshop. She licked Percy's face once, then almost knocked Daedalus over with an enthusiastic leap. I had my sword in my hand. She whimpered away from me.
"There is my old friend!" Daedalus said, scratching Mrs. O'Leary behind the ears. "My only companion all these long lonely years. What I do not understand is why she is scared of you."
"Plenty people are scared of me." I said. "It's not exactly rare." But I knew Mrs. O'Leary was scared of the sword, as it was made of Chaotic Silver, the most powerful metal.
Just then, we were interrupted. "Well, well, well. The questers have already arrived. Percy dear, how is it going?" a female voice cackled behind us.
We turned around and saw it was the empousa Kelli. Percy uncapped Riptide. I dialled my watch, waiting to activate it at the right time.
"Ah... You must be the older brother of the child of Prophecy." she said looking at me. "I was wondering when the second one in the prophecy was going to appear?"
I was caught off guard with that. I found my voice and asked "Prophecy? About me?"
She cackled evilly "Oh you poor boy, nobody told you. Join us, and you will be greater than anyone else. You will be the right hand of the Titan Lord, or in this case, the left hand." She said pointing at my omnitrix.
I activated and transformed "Whampire!" I exclaimed, turning into my Vladat form.
"You vill go down, NOW!" I declared, pouncing on her.
I turned into my small bat form and hovered around her. Percy swiped his sword on her, while I went back to my normal form and gave a supersonic screech.
Kelli instantly turned to me, confirming my theory she could hear supersonic waves. I sent radioactive waves around the room. Now if she tries using fire, she would blow herself up.
I willed Afthartos, and it transformed into a beautifully crafted crescent shaped sword. I swiped at her and dodged her nails.
I engaged in a fight with her, while Annabeth stabbed her from behind.
She shrieked "No!!! Curse you, daughter of Athena!" and she turned into dust.
I gave a sigh of relief. Only to turn around and find a ghost threatening Daedalus. "You will be my exchange! And this Demigod will be my gift to The Crooked One!" He said pointing at a eleven year old boy. It was Nico.
"Nico! Are you alright?" Percy asked.
Nico shook his head "I came here to warn you guys. Minos tricked me into come into the maze because he said you guys were in trouble!"
Minos smiled crookedly "At last, my revenge upon you!"
I flew towards Nico, knocking him and distracting Minos. "You imbecile! I will have you after I am resurrected! You cannot fight me while I am in this form!"
"Maybe you're right." I said getting up. "But not for long! Ghostfreak!" I transformed with a green flash, turning into my Ectonurite form.
"Let's see what you can do now!" I rasped. I summoned Afthartos, and it turned into a pure black scythe. I would have grinned if I had teeth. "Oh yeah, baby. Now this is what I call being a Grim Reaper!"

I swung at him, and Minos hissed in pain. "What is this trickery? Nobody can turn into a ghost and human!"

I swung my scythe again with my long tendril like fingers. He dodged it, surprisingly fast. Suddenly, I felt a pull. I turned around and saw Nico doing calling. I couldn't understand how he did it. Maybe it was something expected from a child of Hades.
I transformed back, not wanting to experience that again. Nico shouted in a loud voice "I, Nico di Angelo, The Ghost King, hereby banish Minos, King of Crete from the mortal plane!"
Minos dissolved into nothingness. I turned around and saw Rachel hiding in a corner, Percy and Annabeth fighting for their lives.
"Come on, grab these wings fast, we have to get out of here!" Percy said.
All of them grabbed a pair of wing each, I dialled my watch. "Astrodactyl!"
I turned on my jetpack and glided through the mountains. I have no idea why I didn't notice them before.
After flying for a while, I heard Annabeth shout "Land, these wings won't last forever."
"How long?" Rachel asked. "I don't want to find out!" Annabeth yelled back. I squawked "You guys don't need to -squawk- worry!"
We swooped down toward the Garden of the Gods. Then the five of us soared across the valley, over a road, and landed on the terrace of the visitor center. It was late afternoon and the place looked pretty empty, but Percy and the others ripped off their wings and I transformed back. Looking at them, I could see Annabeth was right. The self-adhesive seals that bound the wings to their backs were already melting, and they were shedding bronze feathers. They collected the feather and stuffed the
wings in trash bins outside the cafeteria.
Percy used the tourist binocular camera to look up at the hill where Daedalus's workshop had been,
but it had vanished. No more smoke. No broken windows. Just the side of a hill.
"The workshop moved," Annabeth guessed. "There's no telling where."
"So what do we do now?" Percy asked
I sighed "Other than wait, we have to find another entrance to the maze."
"We have to get a car, I know another entrance." Rachel said.
Percy grimaced. He said "We'll have to try that then. We have to save Grover and Tyson."
"OK then, just lemme arrange a car then." Rachel said.
Before she could fish out her cell phone, I transformed. "Upgrade!"
I turned into a car. Percy looked amazed and a bit jealous. "Why doย youย always get the best thing?" he said.
Nico stared at awe. "Awesome!"
Everyone got up on the car. I started driving myself (Hehe) and Rachel started pointing out the directions.
