Chapter 55 - Liu Ruyue's Affection

Thursday arrived in a flash, with sunlight streaming through the clouds and illuminating the streets and alleys of Jiangcheng County. The Organization Department's team from the county committee arrived at the unit to assess Sun Zhewen. But instead of an assessment, they spent the afternoon drinking tea in Liu Ruyue's office. The office was filled with a faint tea fragrance, and several people sat around the tea table, chatting casually.

The Organization Department officials only asked Sun Zhewen a few simple questions, such as his work experience and future plans, before concluding their inquiry and leaving.

After everyone had left, Liu Ruyue said with a smile, "You've certainly made quite a splash this time. It seems having connections really helps in getting ahead in officialdom. Even the Vice Minister came personally." Her smile was tinged with a hint of teasing, but her eyes were filled with concern for Sun Zhewen.

"Ruyue, don't say that. I'm actually quite uneasy," Sun Zhewen frowned slightly, a hint of unease on his face.

Liu Ruyue closed the door, walked over, and gently embraced Sun Zhewen, saying, "You should be transferred next week. Are you excited?" Her voice was gentle and intimate, her breath softly brushing against Sun Zhewen's neck.

"To be honest, I wouldn't say I'm excited. It's more like nervousness and discomfort. After all, this opportunity wasn't entirely earned through my own efforts and achievements," Sun Zhewen sighed, a hint of guilt in his eyes.

"You idiot, it's foolish not to use the resources you have. You should make the most of the resources around you," Liu Ruyue gently patted Sun Zhewen's back, her tone laced with a hint of reproach. "That's just how society is. Connections and relationships can sometimes save you a lot of detours."

"Yeah, that's what they say, but I still feel uneasy," Sun Zhewen said quietly, his head slightly bowed.

"Zhewen, we won't be able to work together anymore. I really don't want you to go," Liu Ruyue said, her voice filled with reluctance. She held Sun Zhewen tightly, as if he would disappear if she let go. "I'll feel so lonely without you."

"Ruyue, don't say that. Even if we're not in the same unit, we can still contact each other often," Sun Zhewen said, patting Liu Ruyue's shoulder gently to comfort her.

"You have to come and see me immediately whenever I call you, okay?" Liu Ruyue raised her head, her eyes fixed on Sun Zhewen, full of anticipation.

"Okay, I definitely will," Sun Zhewen replied without hesitation, his eyes filled with determination.

"Zhewen, I feel uncomfortable knowing you'll be working with Chen Jingyan," Liu Ruyue frowned slightly, a hint of displeasure flashing across her face. "That woman is not to be trifled with."

"Don't overthink it. I don't see her much normally," Sun Zhewen quickly explained.

"But even if you don't see her often, there will still be contact," Liu Ruyue's voice rose slightly, a hint of jealousy in her tone. "I'm just worried that being with her will be bad for you."

"This... Don't worry too much, I'll be careful," Sun Zhewen stammered, unsure how to comfort Liu Ruyue better.

"Zhewen, I don't know why you're with her, but you have to be careful. You're playing with fire," Liu Ruyue's expression turned serious, her eyes filled with worry. "The person behind her is very calculating. Don't let them take advantage of you."

"I know, Ruyue. I'll protect myself." Sun Zhewen nodded, his expression becoming solemn as well.

"If you have any difficulties, tell me immediately, okay? I probably won't be in Jiangcheng County for much longer." Liu Ruyue gently caressed Sun Zhewen's face, her gaze gentle and resolute.

"What's wrong? Where are you going?" Sun Zhewen asked in surprise, his eyes full of confusion.

"Probably going to Huangling City," Liu Ruyue said softly, her gaze drifting into the distance. "The details haven't been completely finalized yet."

"Are your family really from the province?" Sun Zhewen asked curiously, his heart filled with speculation.

"Hehe, guess?" Liu Ruyue smiled mysteriously, deliberately playing coy.

"How could I guess? Don't make me rack my brains; just tell me directly," Sun Zhewen shook his head helplessly, his face full of anticipation.

"I take my mother's surname, you can think about it," Liu Ruyue winked at Sun Zhewen.

"Ah, you wouldn't be..." Sun Zhewen's mouth dropped open in surprise, as if he'd guessed something.

"That's right, so you can go ahead and do what you need to. If anything happens, be sure to tell me. I can at least save your life, hehe," Liu Ruyue's smile was confident and domineering.

"I feel like I'm freeloading," Sun Zhewen said with a wry smile, feeling a bit conflicted. "I feel like I'm always relying on others."

"Aren't you? Look, it's all women helping you," Liu Ruyue teased him on purpose. "But that also shows you have charm, that we're willing to help you."

"Ugh, I didn't expect that," Sun Zhewen sighed, a mix of emotions in his heart. "I still hope to achieve something through my own abilities."

Liu Ruyue looked at Sun Zhewen's helpless expression and couldn't help but laugh: "Alright, don't think so much. As long as you're well, nothing else matters. No matter what, I'll always support you."

Sun Zhewen also smiled. "Ruyue, thank you. I won't let you down."

Liu Ruyue bit hard on Sun Zhewen's lip, "Bite you to death, you bastard." Her pearly white teeth closed, the force heavy but also laced with a hint of coquettishness. In that instant, time seemed to stand still, only the rapid breaths of the two intertwined. After a while, they separated, and a complex emotion filled Liu Ruyue's eyes, a mixture of anger and reluctance, "Go and get busy first. After you've handed everything over, come and keep me company." Her voice carried a hint of languor and tenderness. After she finished speaking, she took out a tissue and gently wiped the lipstick from Sun Zhewen's mouth.

Sun Zhewen smiled and nodded gently, then turned and left Liu Ruyue's office. His mood was also mixed at the moment, with both anticipation for the future and confusion about the current situation.

Sun Zhewen returned to his office, and before he could even sit down, the women in the office surrounded him.

"Xiao Sun, I heard you're going to be transferred, is that true?" Sister Wang took the lead, her eyes full of gossip.

Sun Zhewen quickly said, "It's not a done deal yet, it's too early to say anything." He tried to downplay the topic.

"Oh, Xiao Sun, you're still keeping it a secret! Vice Minister Qian from the Organization Department came, it seems you're going to be promoted ahead of schedule this time," Sister Li said with a smile, her tone filled with envy.

"No, no, I still don't know if it will work," Sun Zhewen waved his hands repeatedly, but secretly muttered that the news spread so fast.

"Xiao Sun, don't be modest. To have the Vice Minister come in person to assess you, this is not a treatment that ordinary people can have," Sister Wang said.

Sun Zhewen said with a wry smile, "Sisters, I really can't say for sure. Even if there's an opportunity, it's the trust and favor of the Organization. I still have many shortcomings myself."
