Chapter 23 - I Am You

"Following the Incident of the unranked gate that recently appeared a couple weeks ago, We have received reports that top students of the academy and top heroes have joined forces to deal with this new threat. We advise every citizen to seek shelter and may God be with you all"

.

"It just doesn't make any sense. I've never seen a golden gate before, it kinda reminds me of that boy..."

Oka exclaimed with her hands pressed against her hips, a subtle tilt of her head as she gazed out the window of a ten story building, observing the golden mass of energy that laid dormant in the sky.

Over the few weeks of the unranked gate appearing, monsters of absurd strength had wrecked havoc across the entire globe, forcing entire governments to combine into one to deal with the humanity erasure level threat.

"He's been on your mind for a bit since that incident sensei. Now's not the time to think about him, two S-class monsters have appeared a few towns away."

Riyah exclaimed in a subtle sigh at how distracted her teacher was, now pondering on where exactly did the boy named Kuro went to.

Shaking her head slightly, Riyah dismissed the thought as Oka stood up from her chair and motioned for Riyah to follow along, to which Riyah complied.

"You'll go deal with the one in Sabu and I'll deal with one in Casiuro."

Oka stated in a command, earning a nod from Riyah and with those last words, both had departed to handle the threats.

.

Riyah was seen dashing across building rooftops at an unnatural speed, appearing as a black streak to the untrained eyes.

'It should be somewhere-'

Her thoughts were suddenly cut short as she narrowly avoided a sharp blade that would've left her headless. This forced her to slow down her high-speed and land on a nearby rooftop with a subtle skid, narrowing her eyes at a shadowy figure on the rooftop across from her.

'I need to end this quickly.'

Riyah stated within her mind as she observed the S-class threat, realizing that it appeared to be humanoid but was far from it.

It radiated an energy that was foreign to Riyah, though it was suffocating as if death itself loomed over her shoulder, causing her to shudder instinctively.

Cosmic Magic: Meteor Shower

Riyah swiftly outstretched her left hand, a faint trail of starry-like energy following behind the movement of her arm, then what followed next could only be described as an beautiful yet lethal assault of magic.

From the golden colored sky, two meteorites soared through the atmosphere and towards the area Riyah and the monster resided in.

The shadowy humanoid monster sensed the impending danger and potent magical essence aimed towards it, glancing upward at the lit sky that grew even brighter from the meteorites.

Then it moved, flashing across the building and appearing right in front of Riyah with a horizontal swing of its metallic sword.

"Too late"

Riyah uttered as she narrowly bent backward to avoid the slash, using the momentum preform a back handspring and successfully land a kick straight to its chin.

Typically monsters with humanoid forms weren't actually physical, simply just condensed magical energy but due to Riyah's potent magical essence infused into her let, the monster form had took damage.

It was flung into the air, helplessly watching as the two meteorites smashed directly into it in a bright flash, ripping it apart in an instant before fading away with the intense light.

'I wonder if she's already done'

Riyah exclaimed in her mind, turning her head towards the distant horizon which suddenly sparkled with multicolored lights.

.

Meanwhile, Oka had noticed the two meteorites fall from the sky and explode from some sort of impact before it could hit any part of the distant city, earning a sigh of relief from Oka.

"Hey~ that's not a bad idea"

Oka proclaimed as she turned her attention to the snarling beast that was ready to feast on her flesh. This slightly amused Oka, who also decided to rile it up a bit more.

"What? Scared that you'll die like your monster buddy?"

Oka asked with a taunting smile, successfully earning a growl of anger from the beast and a roar, observing as it charged forward at lightning speed.

"Woah, that's honestly kind of fast but not fast enough"

Oka exclaimed as she held out her right hand, raising it up to meet her face, then she pressed her middle finger and thumb together in preparation of a snap.

Radiation Magic: Gamma Ray

Just as the beast came a few meters within striking range, she released the snap of her finger and the effect was instant.

A starry display of multicolored lights flashed across the very space they occupied, then the multicolored lights spiralled into each other and shot forward in a thin beam.

The speed of the beam moved so fast it was unseen and the beast fell to the ground with a thud, slowly fading away in a starry-like display whilst Oka finger was still in the same position after the snap.

Suddenly a round of applause from a single individual reached Oka, who swiftly turned around at the sudden appearance of a person.

"Wow~ This world has some unique magic. Maybe my world just got the short end of the stick"

An all too familiar voice uttered out with a teasing tone, a mischievous grin plastered on his face as he sat on the edge of a rooftop, his golden piercing eyes staring into the depths of Oka's.

"Kuro Nasaki..."

She uttered these words as if she saw a ghost, though she knew something was different about him. She sensed no magical essence within him which shocked her but did not let that show.

"You're not wrong....I'm just like you Oka. Though I guess you could say...theirs a part of me still alive unlike you."

Kuro proclaimed as his gloved hand rested beneath his chin, his calculating gaze picking her apart from the depths of her soul. It was something about this Kuro that unnerved her greatly, it was as if she was in the hands of a very dangerous entity.

"...I see"

Those words confirmed to Kuro that she figured it out, earning a haunting chuckle from said boy.

"I'm glad to see there's someone with a working brain-"

Kuro began but his sentence was cut short by a beam of multicolored light.

His eyes narrowed just slightly and without even moving from his position, he raised his right hand and lifted his pointer finger as the beam got dangerously close.

Much to Oka's shock, it dispersed as if it never existed which earned a subtle fearful look from Oka, though she did not stop there and leapt towards Kuro at break neck speed.

Unfortunately, she underestimated this Kuro due to his lack of magical essence which has costed her severely.

"Oh?~ My turn"

Kuro uttered out in a teasing tone, turning his wrist so that his finger pointed at the sky, then he positioned it in a flicking position, effectively gesturing the lower case letter 'b'.

Quanti-Soul Art #3: Electrical Field Control

Then with a flick of his sole finger, a condensed beam of golden electricity blitzed forward at point blank range.

It crackled with immense intensity as it traveled through the air, slamming into Oka's shoulder and blasting straight through it. This forced the girl movement to suddenly halt as the stream of electricity internally travelled through her body, contracting every muscle fiber and rendering half her body unable to move.

"What a shame~, and here I thought I could make a very good proposition that would benefit you and that girly in the long-run."

Kuro stated with a teasingly disappointed sigh, finally standing on the edge of the rooftop with both arms now crossed over his chest.

"But now it has come to this. If you want to live, you'll do what I say or I'll kill you and that girl right now"

Kuro stated coldly as he leapt down from the rooftop, landing gracefully next to the paralyzed Oka with a crouch, not even disturbing the air molecules around him.

His eyes gleamed with sadistic glee and a mischievous grin continued to rest on his face. It wasn't a threat, it was a promise he was willing to carry out to achieve his goal.

To Kuro, their lives were but mere pawns to the grand scheme of things, which is why he was not opposed to outright killing them if she refused.

"I also believe that girl still has a piece of my counterpart power. What was it again? Star magic? Ah no, I think it was cosmic magic. Quite powerful if I do say so myself"

Those words from Kuro had made Oka realized that this man knew more than what he led on, and that her and her student life was now in the palm of his hands. They were now his puppets.
