Chapter 26 - chapter 26

It Probably Was Izuku's Fault

I Feel So Attacked Right Now: Everyone is here on my end

We are just waiting for Uncle Mirai to get the police sorted out

Darth Vader: Everyone is ready on this end.

Sweet Tooth: I am also in position to give the signal.

I have my popcorn ready.

Darth Vader: I will do my best to give you a proper show.

Toshinori had concerns about Mirai. While he had not thought much about how the man had been fairing without him, because let's face it the man had been more than prepared to go solo long before he did, he was beginning to regret not keeping better tabs on the man. The Mirai he had known years before never would have considered allowing a child, skilled vigilante or no, tag along. Yet here they were making the final preparations before Toshinori himself would be going up to "Knock" on the Yakuza's front door.

A few feet away, he noted that Young Midoriya seemed to be texting someone off by himself. Both the boy's uncles seemed distracted coordinating with the police for the raid so didn't seem to be paying the boy much attention. Seeing the possible opportunity for what it was to maybe get a chance to chat with the boy privately, he drifted closer.

The boy looked up with a questioning look at him. "Should you really be wasting your limited time right now?"

"Even if we have to wait another half hour to start, that still leaves me with nearly two hours which is more than enough time. Most raids only take about half an hour before the police take over."

The boy shrugged. "Suit yourself."

"I thought I would come offer you an apology about what I said up on the roof a few months ago. In hindsight I was more dismissive of you then I likely should have been. You have more than proven me wrong at this point. Additionally I failed to handle your care after the Villain attack correctly and you suffered for it. I'm sorry."

The boy pocketed his phone. "All Might, I am going to be honest with you so could you do the same and be honest with me?" After Toshinori gave a puzzled nod, he continued. "What you did that day nearly broke me. Even without taking into account the Villain attack I had already been having a shitty day before we even crossed paths so your words almost were the final straw. I don't care about the fact that you broke my ribs accidentally but the fact you would crush anyone's dream and leave them up on a rooftop alone is the part that really bothers me. That aside, I have to ask, had I not ended up becoming a vigilante, you never found out who my uncles are, and the first time we saw each other again would have been at UA with you teaching Heroics like had originally been planned, would you have changed your mind or would you have tried to talk me out of my place in the course?"

"I'm sorry but I likely would have pushed for you to be removed from the course."

"Despite the fact I would have already beaten out several hundred more Quirked people?"

Toshinori felt his stomach twist. "Yes."

"Please tell me you understand what is wrong with that without me having to explain it."

Toshinori nodded. "I'm sorry. Do you know everything about my Quirk?"

The boy nodded with a grimace. "If you're asking if I know that you were originally born Quirkless like me then yes . You realize that one of the main reasons Uncle Mirai is upset with you is because the way you acted that day it seemed that you had forgotten that fact, not to mention his own near Quirklessness."

"I hadn't forgotten. If I am honest then part of the reason I was so harsh was worry. I saw my younger self in you and all I could think about was how, if you tried to be a hero like me, encouraging you would be like signing your death sentence. If I could get so badly hurt even with a powerful Quirk like One for All, I could only imagine the sort of injuries that you could suffer yourself."

Midoriya shook his head. "But I am not you. I have different strengths and weaknesses. As my brother would say, even before you obtained One for All you were best suited as a strong and tanky fighter while I was made for the role of a cunning and sneaky rogue. I was never meant to be a combat hero, but that didn't mean I was ever considering being one. That role has always been meant for Kacchan with me working beside him at his back."

"What are you two up to over here?"

Toshinori would forever deny the fact that the sudden voice behind him of Mirai's intern Lemillion nearly made him jump.

Midoriya offered the boy a smile. "All Might was apologizing to me."

The boy, who had been looking at the Symbol of Peace with a suspicious look, brightened. "Oh. That's good to hear."

Toshinori gave the boy a strained look in return. "Oh, uh, Mirai mentioned what happened to you?"

The boy shook his head. "Midoriya beat him to it. I probably would have figured something was up during my second internship though since all the merchandise that Sir had collected of you vanished between my first and second."

"Ah…I suppose that is… fair."

He shook his head. "I was also coming over here to warn you that we are getting ready to start."

Toshinori gave him a nod with a grin. "Right. Positions then?"

Mirai felt a feeling of nostalgia as All Might strolled up to the front door of the compound and "Knocked." With one punch, the door flew off its hinges and crashed into the inner courtyard, taking a few men out with it. Men who had already drawn their weapons. It seemed this would not be a surprise raid after all. They had noticed the Heroes and police gathering on their doorstep.

Before All Might could take more than a few steps inside, another door flew open and a man that could only have been Katsukame Rikiya flew across the compound to try and grapple him. Endeavor who had been just steps behind the number one was quick to throw up a wall of fire between the two of them and the Villain.

"Thanks for the assist Endeavor but I could have handled him just fine myself."

"My Quirk is better for this lot than yours. Just get moving with the rest and find the kid. I've got this group locked down."

Mirai jolted into action as he realized the first one to move past the choke point they had created at the door was Izuku (no he was acting as Loki right now so he should make the effort to think of him as such) as the vigilante pulled his coat close around himself and ran straight through Endeavor's flames. There was a curse from Eraserhead beside him as he registered what their nephew had just done. "Endeavor make us a path!"

The number two nodded and the flames parted enough for the remaining heroes to quickly pass through before they sprang closed. Running at Mirai's side, Lemillion was quickly looking around. "Where did he go?"

Hawks swooped down to land beside them and point into the doorless opening to a building. "Kid went that way. I'm going to stay up here with Endeavor to keep an eye on things so no one gets away from him and the police while he handles Katsukame. Call me if you need us for back up." He pointed to one of his headphone covered ears at that last bit before taking back off.

All Might lead the way after Izuku, the remaining Pros unconsciously circling around the two Works Studies students following close behind. The group found themselves coming to a stop as they found Loki at the intersection of two hallways feeling over the surface of the low cabinet in the nook directly in front of them. "Loki? What are you doing?"

Instead of replying the boy shifted his hand slightly and there was a click before the wall swung open to reveal a set of stairs leading down. He grinned behind his mask back at them. "Tada!"

Eraser walked over and bonked the kid on the head. "As good as it is that you found that, please wait for us. Your parents would kill me if you got hurt in all of this because I let you run off."

The boy huffed and rubbed the top of his head. " Fiiinnneee. I will stay with the group."

Mirai sighed. That was as good as they were likely going to get. Rock Lock turned to look down the side hallways. "You didn't see anyone else in here?"

He shook his head. "I'm pretty sure everyone is either out in the courtyard or down these stairs."

With that in mind they proceeded downward. They had only been walking for a minute down the hallway at the bottom when Loki stopped dead in his tracks with a puzzled look on his face. "Loki, is something wrong?"

The boy spun on the spot and looked back the way they had come. "This doesn't make sense, Compress's marble never came this far this direction…" His words after that were a low mumbled mess that Mirai found himself unable to follow.

Several of the others exchanged looks before Fat Gum rested a hand on the kid's shoulder. "Kid, we aren't mind readers. What's up?"

Izuku seemed to jerk back into the moment and darted off back the way they had come before spinning on the spot and seeming to count his steps as he walked back from the base of the stairs. About a third of the way back he paused and turned and walked over to knock on the wall. "Hey Lemillion? Can you stick your head through here?"

Lemillion was quick to run over and do as asked as the group walked back to where the boy stood. When Lemillion pulled his head back there was a grin on his face. "Wow, Loki, how did you know that there was a hallway there?"

Rock Lock gave the kid a suspicious look. "That is a good question."

The boy just shrugged. "One of the League of Villains members, Mr. Compress's Quirk lets him track the exact location of his marbles. When I got the information that he got from tracking a marble slipped into Overhaul's coat, he said that the marble never went that far in that direction so it stood to reason there had to be a hidden hallway where he said it turned."

Fat Gum gave the boy a puzzled look. "Wait, do you have exact directions to where Overhaul is?"

Loki shrugged again. "Maybe. I'm not sure where in here he lost the marble, just that it fell out at some point while he was down here." He pointed back vaguely in the direction of the staircase and down. "According to the math I did from the numbers he gave, the marble is approximately about 15 meters that way. I didn't mention it before because I figured that since the plan was to clear the place out it didn't really matter but given the number of hidden passages clearly that was a mistake. Sorry."

Shouta pinched the bridge of his nose. "It would have been nice to know about this in advance, Problem Child but thanks for clarifying."

Suneater tugged lightly on his friend's cape beside him. "You didn't happen to see a switch or something to open it, did you?"

Lemillion frowned. "No. It is kinda weird. The wall on the other side looks just as seamless as it does on this one outside of the fact that the wall being there makes the other hallway a long dead end."

"Well we don't really know what two of their Quirks are. Maybe one of them can move walls like this?" Loki offered.

All Might stepped closer to the spot along the wall and rapped it with his knuckles. "Is this a good spot for me to open it up?"

Lemillion nodded. "Yeah the hallway on the other side is just as wide as this one."

All Might grinned. "You all might want to take a few steps back."

Shoto was having more fun than expected considering that he couldn't see most of the fighting from his rooftop. The bad view was to be expected though given most of the fighting would be taking place underground. Still, watching his old man getting repeatedly punched in the face was great. He was just about to eat another mouthful of popcorn when there was the sound of boots touching down on the roof behind him. Shoto lowered his binoculars to look back at Hawks who was staring at him in a state of confusion. "Popcorn?"

The Pro-Hero blinked. "Aren't you Endeavor's missing kid?"

"Depends. Are you going to tell him I am here?"

"Aren't you supposed to be kidnapped?"

Shoto snorted and went back to watching the fight. "I left a note. It is not my fault he didn't believe me."

Hawks snorted. "Damn so you really have just been hiding out at a friend's place while he turned the whole country over looking for you?"

"Yes. Shouldn't you be over there helping?" Shoto looked back at him with a questioning look.

Hawks gestured back to his smaller than normal wings. "I am. I'm good at multitasking."

Shoto paused before nodding. "I supposed that is fair."

"So you plan on going back home soon? You are missing school."

"I can do homeschooling work just as well where I am as in my Father's place. Probably better actually since if I get stuck on something there is normally at least one person around who can help. I will go back for Christmas so I can see Fuyumi and Natsuo at the latest. Though I might go back sooner if he calms down."

"Ah. So who are your friends you are staying with?"

Shoto considered the question for a moment before answering honestly. "Mostly I have been staying with Izuku since his brother's place had some spare rooms but I have also stayed over with his cousin Hitoshi a couple times when I would have been alone at Izuku's place otherwise."

Hawks raised his brows. "Wait, you have been staying with Loki this whole time? Do Sir Nighteye and Eraserhead know?"

Shoto gave the man a puzzled look. "Given that Hitoshi is Eraserhead's soon to be adopted son, obviously yes."

Hawks looked like Shoto had just declared that the sky was green from how bewildered that comment left him. "They have been lying to Endeavor for weeks about where you are?"

"I assume so."

"Why?"

"Because I asked them to."

Before Shoto could be questioned further, a massive explosion ripped through the ground near the compound as if someone had just punched the ground open from below. Ah, the real show was finally starting. Behind him Hawks jumped with a startled squawk. "What the hell was that?" Before Shoto could even think to respond, Hawks had thrown himself back into the air and was winging it in the direction of the fight between two titans.

Shoto readjusted himself and set the binoculars aside. They wouldn't be of any real use after all at their speed. He munched on the popcorn with full faith in his new Dad. The man had promised him a show after all.

This was too easy. Toshinori hadn't been a hero for this long without developing a good sense for when something wasn't right. While yes, they had crossed paths with a number of Villains trying to stop them, none of them lasted long against their group. It would have been one thing had they been following Mirai's lead after he had used his Quirk but they weren't, they were following his supposedly Quirkless nephew.

Perhaps the boy was not quite so Quirkless as they all thought? As someone who had been born Quirkless himself, he couldn't help but think back to stories of rare stress triggered Quirk Awakenings in people thought to be Quirkless. Perhaps the same thing had happened to the boy?

It was something to think about later.

Now their group was down to just five of them, the others hanging back with each group defeated to take them into custody. Just Toshinori, Mirai, his brother Eraserhead, and the two boys Lemillion and young Midoriya himself. Ahead of them, assuming the information that had been given was correct, was just three more villains and perhaps the little girl they were searching for.

They rounded the corner only to run into a trio of matching men whose only difference in appearance seemed to be their masks and a man following behind them in a gray and black mask and unitard. Before Toshinori had time to react, one of the men in the lead spotted them, threw up his arms to block the others and quickly shoved them into a run. One of the others quickly tapped the other two before all three of them seemed to vanish and the remaining masked man booked it away.

"League's here."

Toshinori looked down to his right at young Midoriya who was holding out an arm to try and block Toshinori from following. "Young Loki?"

The boy shook his head. "Two of those were my informants. Now that they know we are here they will leave on their own."

Lemillion fell into step beside them. "What are they doing here?"

Young Midoriya shrugged. "Revenge? They are the ones Overhaul shot in the first place."

Toshinori looked back at the retreating figure turning a corner up ahead. "You are not concerned that they might be after the Quirk erasing bullets?"

He shook his head. "They like the idea of them as much as we probably do."

It didn't take long for them to round the corner the man had vanished around only for Toshinori to find himself freezing in his tracks as he spotted a figure near the other end of the hallway standing with his back to them. A horribly familiar figure. Even wearing that new strange helmet mask, Toshinori had only ever met one man with such a striking silhouette. He stood hand resting casually on the shoulder of the boy that had crashed the convention panel, body decorated in hands.

Toshinori watched as the masked figure that had run away from them came to a stop next to the pair and pointed back to all of them rounding the corner. All for One gently patted the man on the shoulder and began to slowly walk in their direction. "Ah…All Might. So good of you to join us."

Ice clawed down his spine as the man slowly paced forward. Suddenly the fact that he was not here alone had him take a step forward and throw an arm out to stop those behind him. "It's Him. He's alive."

It seemed like Eraserhead and Sir Nighteye were in perfect sync as they reached out together and yanked each of their charges back around the corner from which they came to a chorus of protests. Toshinori found himself tuning out the words only paying enough attention to them to ensure they got clear of this upcoming fight.

"My my All Might. If I didn't know better I would say you were afraid of me." He turned his head slightly as if to look back to the now cluster of figures behind him. "I'm afraid I will have to leave dealing with Overhaul and his companions to you after all. Do make sure to not kill him right away though. I am rather curious about how his Quirk works."

The young man covered in hands nodded his head. "We can manage, Father. Try to keep the roof from caving in on us."

Toshinori felt a bit of horror play through his mind. All for One was…?

Inside One for All, the vestiges were processing that revelation in a few different ways. Yoichi himself was torn between being thrilled at the proof that perhaps his theory that young Izuku might be his actual nephew held some water and slightly horrified that this nephew of his was clearly so deeply ingrained in a life of Villainy already. Okay sure, as far as he knew the worst thing the kid had done was deface public property and glitter bomb Eighth but from how casually the two talked about this other guy's possible death was unnerving.

It was Fifth who broke the tension in the room. "So how ugly do you think he is under that helmet? Eighth messed him up pretty bad last time."

Yoichi found himself snorting. "Really Fifth?"

The man gave an unrepentant grin. "What? It's a valid question."

Sixth studied the boy down the hallway through Eighth's eyes. "Who do you think he tricked into sleeping with him to get a kid?"

Seventh hummed. "Well if we are working off the theory that Midoriya Izuku is maybe his kid then maybe Sir Nighteye's sister."

Then Fifth chuckled, "Or if we listen to the rumor mill, Sir Nighteye himself."

Yoichi replayed the memories of the last few seconds to himself. "...Well if that was true it would explain the complete lack of reaction from Sir and his brother at my brother's presence."

That got everyone's attention. Second was staring at him like he had grown a second head. "You can't be fucking serious."

Yoichi shrugged with a frown. "As far as I know both options are equally likely not taking into account the how part. My brother is definitely bi. Personally I still favor the sister just because the two of them having kids together hurts my brain a bit less."

Before they could even think about discussing further, a panicked Fourth called out. "Guys? The fight?"

Hitoshi stared at the TV in disbelief. "Pops, you might want to come see this!"

Behind him at the dining room table, his Pops had been working on grading papers. "Hitoshi what-?"

"Uncle Hisashi and All Might are throwing hands on live TV."

"WHAT!" Hitoshi winced as his Pops lost control of his Quirk in his surprise as the man lunged over the back of the couch to grab the remote to turn up the volume.

"...don't know at this time the identity of the Villain currently responsible for this level of destruction. Thankfully, the majority of the surrounding area had already been evacuated prior to this fight due to a planned raid on a nearby Villain hideout. It is unknown currently if the two events are related…"
