Chapter 28 - chapter 28

Overhaul felt like he was going to be sick.

This was all his fault. He had dismissed every warning sign along the way. Of course All for One had become less active, he had a family now as disturbing a thought as that was. Of course the man would claim a fire Quirk of some sort as his sole Quirk when his first born son had been born with one. Of course his youngest son would be registered as Quirkless, how better to hide the fact one of his children had finally inherited his own original Quirk.

Midoriya could have stolen his Quirk that day but ran and hid only to follow him later to hit him with some sort of tracker. They were not only interested in killing him but preventing anyone from developing bullets that would have been a threat to their own power. He had played his cards far too early and now he would pay the price.

"Kai?"

Overhaul looked up to meet the panicked face of Chrono- No what was the point in playing this game any longer. Kurono Hari, his longtime companion. His right hand had removed his mask at some point. Normally he would have noticed the moment it happened but now after using his own Quirk for so long it barely registered. "Hari?"

"Are you okay?"

"Are we going to die?" Kai felt he should glare at Confession for using his Quirk on him and interrupting him and Hari but at this point he just felt too empty.

"I don't know for certain for the two of you but my death sentence has already been issued."

Confession nodded before seeming to decide that his own mask was no longer worth keeping on. "If it is all the same, I think I would rather my death be at your hands than All for One's. It would be faster. Perhaps you could use me to get a second wind and maybe escape?" He held out a hand.

Kai sighed and reached out to take it, his skin crawling even more than it already had been at the thought. Still, it was perhaps his and Hari's only shot at escape.

Torino Sorahiko was convinced at this point that Toshinori was trying to kill him from stress. It was the only way he could explain how Nana's successor could be so stupid as to pick a fight with All for One with no back up on live television. The worst part of it was the fight was well over an hour away by train so there was no way he was going to get there in time to bail the idiot out so he was stuck here just watching his own worst nightmare play out.

The kid still hadn't passed on One for All either. Sorahiko knew this for a fact given that, as Toshi had gotten more and more desperate to find someone, he had actually called to ask for help in his search. Toshi, the idiot, had successfully alienated his former Sidekick as well as the Principal of UA to the point that both were barely talking with him anymore. Sir Nighteye even managed to convince the HPSC that it was time for All Might to step down come next hero rankings and retire like Sorahiko had done himself years ago. Sure, Sorahiko kept his Hero license up to date but he was out of active duty like what was planned for Toshi come the end of October.

Now though Toshi would be lucky to survive long enough to see that retirement.

All for One had not been permanently weakened like Toshi had. That much was clear from how the man was toying with him. All for One was clearly showing off for the cameras from how he had just toyed with the kid Hawks.

Suddenly a gun shot rang out over the broadcast followed by a pained cry of a child that made both fighters freeze. Then All for One was just gone, vanishing down into the hole below them so fast that it almost seemed like he had teleported.

For the first time since Izuku discovered his Quirk's existence, Izuku was terrified. He was not sure how everything could have gone so wrong so fast.

Overhaul had appeared from nowhere looking like a twisted abomination to destroy the hallway by throwing up a quick flurry of large stone spikes from the floor that had pinned Mirai like a butterfly to the ceiling and Shouta to the far wall with a knock to the head. Izuku had barely managed to twist out of the way at the last second and Togata had only dodged by going briefly intangible. Then the second man appeared with gun in hand to shoot Izuku center mass.

Izuku felt an explosion of pain as blood flew from his chest. As he was knocked to the ground from the force though, Izuku came to two startling realizations as he grasped at his chest in reflex. One, that had been an actual bullet, not a Quirk erasing one and two, he had been hit perfectly in the center of his chest. Right where surgeons had braced his sternum with a metal bridge.

Before he could even really process the fact that All Might breaking his ribs months ago had just saved his life, his father appeared between him and Overhaul in a sudden shockwave of power. His father seemed to take stock of the scene before quickly moving forward to grab both men by their skulls.

Hisashi was pissed. He really should have killed these three turned two before fighting All Might. He was practically shaking with rage as he ripped all three Quirks from the two men's bodies. Without a word he threw them back down the tunnel that Overhaul had carved in his attempt to flee with enough force that, if it didn't kill them on impact, would at least prevent them from going anywhere for a good while.

He spun on the spot to walk over to check on his critically wounded family only to find himself stopping as a clearly terrified Togata stood between him at the other three starting to bleed out. "Leave them alone! Your fight is with me!"

Hisashi gave a soft sigh. Right, this was only to be expected from the poor boy. This was a nightmare scenario for all of them. "I can't save their lives if you interfere. I don't have much time."

Togata faltered. "What-? Why would you want to help?"

Hisashi gently nudged the boy out of the way and kneeled down to rest a hand on Izuku's chest before activating Eri's Quirk. As Izuku's wound quickly stitched closed, Izuku reached up to grab his hand. "No time. Pass it to me so I can take over."

Hisashi cursed. "I can't give this one to you. It is a Time Quirk." Unspoken understanding flashed over Izuku's face. Hisashi was glad he and Izuku talked Quirks so often now that the unspoken threat of what could happen if Hisashi passed a time altering Quirk to a precognizant Quirk holder didn't bear repeating.

"What about Overhaul?"

That he could do. With hardly a thought, the Quirk that had led to their injuries was passed over into the waiting hands of his son after pushing back his hood. "Focus on stabilizing them first." He quickly stood back up to his full height and quickly used his Kinetic Booster Quirks to dart back to try and intercept All Might before he closed the distance completely.

---MiM-MiM-MiM---

Tomura felt his stomach drop as he forced his Quirk to tunnel the last little distance between where Overhaul had gone and where they were now. The fighting had collapsed the hallway in front of the one exit to Eri's old room so with them being forced to tunnel out another way, Tomura had made the call to try and tunnel in the direction the other men had been going.

But then there was the gunshot and Izuku screamed and Tomura found himself doubting that he had chosen to tunnel in the right direction. It was too late to change his mind now though going back and risking tunneling around the debris to meet up with the old hallway would take even longer with how close the sounds had been.

Then just as Decay opened the tunnel back into a hallway, Tomura found himself jerking back as a body crashed through the remains of the wall and into their party. Tomura reflexively grabbed the body smashing into himself and watched from the hallway illumination as Overhaul's new twisted form practically exploded into a mess of dust and gore. "The fuck!"

Tomura looked down at the mess now covering him with a look of disgust as what was left of the other man dropped to the ground around him. Just in front of him a bit off to the one side, one of the guy's buddy's corpse slumped to the ground from where it had impacted, the man's neck clearly snapped from the unnatural twist of his head.

---MiM-MiM-MiM---

Mirio was not quite sure what had just happened.

Midoriya at least didn't seem to be suffering from such a hang up as he rushed to free and stabilize his badly injured uncles. Mirio watched in shock as he rested a palm against the spike holding the clearly unconscious form of Sir Nighteye to the ceiling and began to use Overhaul's Quirk as if it was his own to quickly lower him down. "Did he just transfer Overhaul's Quirk to you?"

Midoriya didn't even glance his way. "Yes, now shut up. I need to focus."

Mirio found his jaw snapping shut as Midoriya worked to quickly seal the massive hole in the man's torso before leaping back up to his feet to treat his other uncle. "Is he safe to move?"

"Yes."

Nodding to himself, Mirio bent down to scoop up and carry his mentor. By the time he looked back up, Midoriya was gently shaking Eraserhead awake. "Wha-?"

"Uncle Shouta, can you walk? I am not strong enough to carry you and Togata has his hands full with Uncle Mirai."

The man slowly blinked as he seemed to take in everything. "Might need help. What happened?"

Midoriya quickly got himself under the man's undamaged shoulder and started to help him limp in the direction of the other heroes. "Overhaul came through the wall and used his Quirk to try and take us all out at once. You hit your head hard when he pinned you by your shoulder and Uncle Mirai passed out from shock when he severed his spine. Togata and I managed to dodge but the other guy with him shot me. All for One heard me scream."

The man seemed still pretty out of it. "Dad was here?"

"Dad?"

Midoriya looked back at Mirio with an apologetic look. "Yeah Shouta, Dad was here."

Mirio felt his heart leap into his throat. The Villain currently fighting All Might and who had literally just stolen the Quirks of and killed the men attacking them was-

Before Mirio could even think to process that information, a number of the League of Villains came running out of the hole Overhaul had made. The leader had a wild look in his eyes as he took in their group. He was also drenched in blood and covered in a fine coat of dust. "Izuku are you okay?! You screamed!"

Midoriya turned to give the group of newcomers a sheepish look that quickly warped into one of horror. "I might have gotten shot but don't worry Dad fixed it! Tomura, are you okay?!"

"I'm fine but Overhaul most certainly isn't."

One of the masked figures from earlier quickly shoved past their bloody leader to rush over to check on Midoriya before pulling the boy into a tight hug. "You scared the shit out of us!"

"Ah! Dabi careful! I am pretty sure Uncle Shouta has a concussion!"

Another figure dressed much the same shook slightly as they took in the sight of all the blood. "I- I didn't think the sight of blood would ever make me feel sick."

His remaining match wrapped him up a tight hug. "It is okay my dear, your father wouldn't have left if they weren't going to be okay."

Mirio found to his shock that as the rest of the group converged on their wounded group that he recognized who a good number of them were under their disguises. "Midoriya, please don't tell me all of your family is secretly made up of Villains."

Midoriya Tomura gave Mirio an odd look. "Obviously not. You literally are holding one of the Heroes in our family." He turned back to his younger brother. "Should we be worried about him knowing?"

Midoriya Izuku shook his head before turning to give Mirio himself a slightly unnerving smile that sent a shiver down his spine. "Oh he knows better than to try and hurt our family now I think. Besides, even if he wanted to try and tell someone, who would believe him?" He turned back to the group. "You guys should go. I don't want you guys getting in trouble with the other heroes by helping us. Especially you, Tomura. You look like someone out of an American slasher movie right now."

The boy's older brother winced. "Fair. Do you need one of us to help you with Uncle Shouta at least?"

Midoriya Izuku looked over at Dabi. "Can you carry him? The other heroes will probably let you go since you're Blueflame."

The man huffed and quickly shifted the dazed hero into a fireman's carry. "I can help you get to the other heroes but they will have to take him from there. My shoulder won't be able to take his weight for much longer than that."

"Got it. Hopefully one of the other heroes shouldn't be much further."

---MiM-MiM-MiM---

Hisashi collided with All Might in the winding halls not far from their original hole in the ceiling. Well, there was little point about worrying about keeping the damage down at this point as a new hole was punched up into the open air. Hisashi was quick to lead the Hero back up above ground. "Sorry about running off like that. Shall we continue?"

"What was that scream?"

"Ah. Overhaul and his last remaining ally attacked your former Sidekick's little group. Not to worry, all of Sir Nighteye's group should survive. Overhaul's Quirk will be better served in Loki's hands for now."

All Might faltered slightly in his next punch. "You gave Loki a Quirk?"

Hisashi shrugged as he dodged All Might's disrupted punch. "Why not? Given his Quirklessness, there was no harm in it and this way he can save his uncles' lives. Besides, I can more than take it back later for myself."

"Why would you want to help them?"

"Young Loki falls under my protection due to a prior agreement with my own family. I cannot allow him to come to any physical or physiological harm if I am able to act to prevent it." Hisashi shrugged. "All of my children's close friends fall under a similar protection."

The poor man looked bewildered. "You ran off to save him because your children asked you too?"

Hisashi smiled. Ah good, the man had taken the bait. Hopefully now he would not consider Izuku on his list of suspects as Hisashi's own son in the near future. "But of course. What kind of father goes around hurting their own children's vigilante friend? I highly doubt that my successor would be particularly pleased with me given they likely heard his scream as well. Or if Eraserhead died frankly given he is a bit of a fan of his."

"Your successor is a fan of Eraserhead?"

Hisashi chuckled. "What about that is truly surprising? I suspect his interest in the hero is at least partially due to him being Loki's normal Hero partner on patrols. There are not many Heroes around these days that he likes. So many of your kind have seemingly forgotten the main point of Heroes is to protect the everyday people. It seems to be a common issue with the Limelight Heroes at least."

Hisashi found himself spinning as he deflected the next punch to prevent the helicopter circling them once more being knocked from the sky by the shockwave. All Might was really not paying the slightest bit of attention to his surroundings was he?

---MiM-MiM-MiM---

Yoichi was feeling a bit lost. This man that Eighth was fighting right now was not the same monster that all of them had faced in the past. Sure Hisashi had toyed with previous holders and frankly even All Might himself before, but this general level of playfulness he had not seen in his brother since the two of them had been children. With a twist in his chest Yoichi found himself thinking back to when they had still played Heroes and Villains when Yoichi was still little and his illness hadn't reached the point of leaving him too weak to run around like a normal child.

The way his brother spoke, he was happy . Looking back, it was an emotion that he hadn't seen in years even before he had died. The last time they had seen him, in the fight that Eighth had thought he had killed the man (something Yoichi had never been truly convinced was the truth), Hisashi was clearly scared. Now Yoichi had to wonder if that fear had not been for himself but perhaps a possible family member.

It would explain some of his actions in that fight. How Hisashi had clearly been trying to control the destruction in hindsight. He had taken hits that he could have easily dodged to prevent the shockwaves from the punches from hitting someone else there. Someone who had carried him off after the fact to save his life.

And then there was his reaction to Eighth's accusation of his own murder. As much as he wanted to deny the fact, Yoichi probably would not have died so soon had he not accidently passed on his Quirk. His brother had been more than content leaving him and Second alone up until he found himself getting sick again after he had accidentally gifted the other man with the Quirk Hisashi had given him. As much as he hated that Hisashi had forced the Quirk on him in the first place, there was no denying it did exactly what his brother had seemingly hoped it would do.

Had Yoichi not thrown himself between the two of them when his brother turned up to demand he return the Quirk, he would not have gotten hurt and subsequently recaptured by his brother. He would not have died from his compromised immune system failing while he healed a week later.

Suddenly Yoichi found himself in the position of understanding his brother's behavior back then better than ever before. Feeling slightly ill he realized that looking back on the other fights his brother had had with the other holders, his brother wasn't lying. Looking around at the others and how they had collectively paled as things wore on, it seemed he was not the only one to realize that truth.

But Yoichi shouldn't be thinking about that right now. For now, he should consider all he was learning about his brother from this fight provided that the man was being truthful about everything else he said.

Okay the facts Yoichi knew about his brother currently were this:

His brother apparently lost his eyes from that last fight which given that Eighth had basically taken the top of the man's skull off with his last blow was not surprising. The boy completely covered in hands in the League of Villains was definitely his brother's son. That made sense from the boy's coloration at least.Hisashi had at least one son who was both a UA Hero course graduate and old enough to have a kid of his own nowIf Midoriya Izuku was one of his kids like he suspected then he either had a currently unknown twin brother, half brother, or adopted brother around the same age. Given his brother had both stated they were heroics leaning and his brother had run so fast to check on Izuku when he screamed that he practically teleported, this seemed more and more likely. His brother had just given Izuku a likely powerful Quirk to help save the boy's uncles (or uncle and other father, Yoichi was still uncertain about that one) without much thought. His brother had also stolen and then immediately returned the Pro-Hero Hawks's Quirk without any hesitation on camera for all of Japan to see. Something he never would have considered doing before. His brother was fighting for the cameras, which while not unheard of in the past, he had never shown off so casually before. It was like he no longer cared if people knew about him.Given how the fight was going, maybe he really didn't.

"He isn't worried about a possible successor."

A few of the other vestiges looked away from the fighting to send him questioning and worried looks. Seventh had turned sheet white at the comment. "You think he is just toying with Toshi before killing him."

Yoichi scratched his head and shrugged. "If he has stopped caring about trying to get One for All back then yeah that seems likely. The only other explanation I can think of is that if Izuku really is my nephew then he might already know about young Kirishima being the future Ninth and that has changed things for him. Maybe he thinks he can talk the boy into passing on the Quirk to him later willingly as a result."

That set off a chain reaction of cursing among the others.

Shoto watched a panicked Hawks beat his wings to quickly close the distance needed to return to his roof. The number three practically crashed beside him. "Why are you still here?"

Shoto held out his bowl of popcorn to the frazzled Hero. "Better view of the show from here. Are you okay? I doubt having your Quirk taken, even that briefly, was much fun."

"Show? Kid, that is a monster!"

Shoto shrugged. "Is he? I can't tell. From here it looks like he is the one keeping the damage down and protecting the helicopter from the fighting."

The Hero froze before scrambling back up into a seated position to better keep an eye on the now resumed fight. After a few moments the man paled. "What the hell? All that damage is All Might?"

"It's what it looks like to me. The guy has just been playing defensive outside of when he jabbed All Might and grabbed you. If he wanted to I am pretty sure he could have killed the two of you and left a while ago. I think he is just having fun showing off for the cameras."

Hawks stared out at the fight in a clear mix of horror and confusion. "Why though?"

Shoto shrugged because honestly he was still largely in the dark about the story behind his Better Dad's grudge with All Might. There was a buzz in his pocket as his phone got an alert from the HeroChat app.

Eijiro felt his stomach twist with nerves as he watched the fight between All for One and All Might pick back up again. He had hoped that when All for One left to go check on the scream that the fight would be over but it seemed that All Might had no intention of dropping it.

Not being able to watch All for One toying with the man (after seeing even just the start of the fight between All for One and Gigantomachia, the way the man was clearly holding back was obvious), he grabbed his phone and pulled up the group chat to see if any of the others were watching.

Future Students of Class 1-A

Small Might: Please tell me one of you guys knows what the hell is going on.

Izuku are you here?

Please don't tell me that scream was actually you.

Mewtwo: izu is definitely there with dad

pops is freaking the fuck out watching the broadcast with me

we knew there was a good chance that the league was probably going to crash the raid but we had no idea uncle hisashi would too

i doubt dad and uncle mirai would have let all might run into him otherwise

Peppermint: Given that the human trash fire went down below after the gunshot happened, there is a possibility that Dabi is going to run into him too so if everything goes up in blue flames in a bit that is probably why.

Bomberanian: Icyhot how the fuck do you know that?

The cameras have only been following Uncle Hisashi and All Might.

Small Might: Wait, are you there too?

Peppermint: Sort of. I am on a roof a bit anyways.

If the fight gets much closer, I will have to move though.

Hawks flew back over here to watch from a safe distance after Better Dad scared him by borrowing his Quirk.

He is having a mental breakdown watching the fight now that he realizes that All Might is the one trashing the place not Better Dad

Mewtwo: lol do you actually seriously call uncle hisashi that?

Peppermint: Why not? It's true.

Small Might: Should you be messaging so openly about him with Hawks right next to you?

You aren't afraid of him reading over your shoulder or anything?

Peppermint: Not really.

He is too distracted by the fight to have even noticed that I pulled out my phone though I am uncertain how long that will be true.

Bomberanian: Then put your fucking phone away dumbass.

Amajiki Tamaki wished at times that he was a braver person. If he was, perhaps he would not have frozen when that gunshot and terrible scream happened just minutes before. Fat Gum had to shoved him back into motion. They had hung back first to carry the first group of Villains detained up to the cops since Fat Gum had picked up on his own nervousness. They had just turned to begin heading back down to catch up with Mirio and the others when the ground below them buckled and the street and a few houses a short ways from the compound exploded upward.

After seeing Hawks struggling to get close to the conflict and how both All Might and the unknown Villain were fighting, Fat Gum had forced them to run back into the tunnels to act as backup along with Endeavor who had voiced concerns that if a Villain like that had been hiding down there, that there might have been others.

They had barely passed Bubble Girl and Centipeder with their own contained Villain captives when the gunshot happened. Now Endeavor was several strides in front of the pair of them.

Words could not describe the relief turned horror he felt when Mirio rounded the corner ahead of them. His friend's chest was coated in blood and his own mentor was completely drenched in it completely limp in Mirio's arms. Then Midoriya rounded the corner followed by a figure he recognized as one of the League of Villains from HeroCon with an unconscious Aizawa-sensei slung limply over his shoulders. All of them were bloody.

Endeavor stopped dead in his tracks, eyes clearly locked on the unknown masked Villain who had frozen when he had spotted the number two. "What happened?"

Mirio turned to look to Midoriya seemingly for guidance. Midoriya sighed and slumped to the floor before gesturing to the unknown figure. "The League was here obviously. Blueflame decided to hang back to help get Uncle Shouta out of here since I couldn't carry him myself. Overhaul and the other two remaining I am pretty sure are dead. We got split off from All Might when he and All for One started having their slug fest and it let Overhaul sneak around to attack us. We would all be dead if All for One hadn't come to investigate my scream. He healed my gunshot wound and helped to stabilize my uncles before running off to pick his fight with All Might back up again. Blueflame showed up not long after and agreed to stick around long enough to help us get out of here."

Blueflame (an odd name for a guy dressed largely in orange) gently set the Hero he had been carrying down. "One of them can take over from here. I'm getting out of here."

Endeavor growled. "And where do you think you are going? You can't seriously think I am going to let a criminal like you just walk away."

Midoriya glared at the man. "Yes you are unless you want me to bring up your blatant disregard for the Informant Act to the Hero Commission."

Endeavor's flames flared dangerously causing Blueflame to bring his own flaming fingertips up in warning. Bright blue flames danced for a moment before extinguishing. "Careful asshole. Unlike last time you threatened to torch me, I can burn you back." He spun on the spot and vanished out of sight around the corner.

Fat Gum meanwhile had gone over to scoop up Aizawa-sensei. Tamaki saw him inspecting the man's now exposed shoulder. "You said All for One helped stabilize you all?"

Mirio shook his head. "I was still unhurt when he showed up but it was bad . If he hadn't shown up when he did, I am pretty sure we would all be dead."

The two awake Pros shared a concerned look. "Do you know why he did that?"

What came next Tamaki never would have expected from his friend. He lied . It would likely have not been obvious to the Heroes but Tamaki knew his best friend better than anyone. "No. I don't.
