Chapter 31 - Chapter Thirty: Disarmament

Early the next morning, Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon sent Kote off on a spaceship bound for Mandalore.

"Great Master Qui-Gon, please be careful in the future; the dark saber is resurfacing," Kote reiterated to Qui-Gon about the Sith's revival.

"I will investigate, Kote. Be careful in everything and don't forget your cultivation, even if the Council doesn't allow you to become a Jedi," Qui-Gon listened intently.

"Let's spar next time we meet. Also, my Cousin is very popular, so remember to return to Mandalore often."

"After what you just said, I can't go even more."

"What a shame. Goodbye, Great Master. Goodbye, Obi-Wan." Kote boarded the ship, looking at the vast, boundless Universe. He always felt that all of this was dreamlike and unimaginable, but he loved living this life and wanted to live an even more brilliant one, leaving a legendary name throughout the Galaxy.

Not long after, Kote returned to Mandalore. Sundari was now mostly rebuilt, and the traces of war seemed to have dissipated. Kote rode a motorcycle to the current political center of Sundari's capital.

As soon as he entered, he bumped directly into Bo-Katan, who was playing inside. "Yo, where's Cousin?" Kote squatted down to Bo-Katan.

"Cousin just went out. She told me to play with my other Cousins." Bo-Katan was toying with a model gun in her hand.

Seeing this, Kote had no choice but to find a place to wait, but soon after, a Council member came over, saying there were important matters to discuss.

Upon entering the conference room, Prime Minister Almec, other Council members, and various ministers were waiting.

"Everyone's here. Is there something you need me for?" Kote pulled out the main chair and sat down.

"It's like this, Kote. Currently, our newly established government, apart from the police force, has no other regular army. Therefore, the Council has decided to discuss military matters with you. After all, you are currently the highest-ranking officer in the entire army. So, we plan to have you demobilize the army and then lead the police force, becoming the chief of police of Mandalore," Almec began.

"Have you discussed this demobilization with the Duchess?"

"It was decided when the new government was established. This will not change. So, your position will be transferred, from the army to the police force."

"What about the weapons and equipment?"

"We will sell them. This is not for you to inquire about."

"Alright, it just so happens that I have a Security Company that needs a batch of weapons and equipment. Why not sell them to me? Anyway, you no longer have use for them." Kote remembered the two companies he created when he modified the information database earlier: a Security Company and a shipbuilding company.

Upon hearing the news of Kote's return to Sundari, Satine quickly ended her lecture tour and rushed back. Pushing open the door, she immediately made a decision: "No, just give them directly to Kote. At the very least, it leaves us with the ability to resist if war breaks out again in the future."

"This does not conform to our government's philosophy, Duchess," Almec disagreed.

"Prime Minister, these funds will come from the Kryze Family. That should resolve the issue, right?"

"This isn't about money, it's..."

"Enough. Let's move on from this matter. Let's talk about the police force." Satine directly cut off Almec's words.

Kote gave a thumbs-up from below. His Cousin had become even more authoritative, at least she wouldn't be sidelined by the Council and the Prime Minister.

"I agree to completely demobilize the army, but more than half of the personnel must join the police force and undergo full training. Furthermore, police stations will be established on various planets and celestial bodies to protect the rights of our people, letting them know what it's like to have a normal government. Also, the Ministry of Finance will fund the purchase of new equipment from Mandal Company." Kote thought for a moment and finally agreed. After all, from this perspective, all the armed forces and violent organizations of the entire government would be in his hands.

"The current financial situation can still support us having a police force." The Minister of Finance looked at the data pad. Mandalore's mining industry was fully capable of supporting the entire Mandalorian System and several surrounding colonial systems.

"Then it's settled. Kote's position will be transferred from General to chief of police, and he will also serve as Governor of Vadiel. Meeting adjourned. Kote, stay behind." Satine ended the meeting but still had some words for Kote.

"Cousin, is it appropriate to entrust all of Mandalore's armed forces into my hands like this, especially since I'm not yet an adult?"

"If only you were like other children your age, you'd be fine. You're not at all like a child, so entrusting it to you is perfectly fine. Since this war, I've completely understood what you told me back then: peace can only be achieved through force."

"You finally understand, Cousin!"

"That's why the peace we have now is so precious. I will cherish and protect this hard-won peace for us Mandalorians with my life."

"Me too, Cousin. The direction you point is my direction. I will definitely do a good job as chief of police!" Kote thumped his chest, full of conviction.

"I believe you." Satine patted Kote's head and then left the conference room.

After everyone had left, Kote immediately rushed to the barracks to announce the news to everyone.

"One good news, one bad news. Which one do you want to hear first?" Kote stood on the podium, asking the thousands of warriors below.

"What's the news, Commander?"

"Are we getting bonuses, or a raise?"

"Tell us the bad news first, Commander, since it's bitter before sweet."

Everyone below was talking loudly, but they all wanted to hear the bad news first.

"Alright, since you all want to hear the bad news, listen closely: all of you, including me, have been dismissed. But..."

Before Kote could finish, someone below started shouting loudly.

"Using us and then discarding us!"

"Are you rebelling, Commander? We'll decide for ourselves!"

"Yes, rebel!"

Kote directly took out the dark saber and slammed it on the table. Immediately, no one dared to speak. After all, this was a symbol capable of ruling all Mandalorians. Furthermore, Kote's surname was vizsla, and with the Clan Chief of vizsla currently undecided, the best candidate was Kote. Some even directly shouted, "The Commander should be the one to lead everyone!"

"Exactly!" A group of people below began to respond, as if they would rebel on the spot and immediately start another Clan war.

Kote shook his head at the sight. He had intended to quiet them, but it had the opposite effect.

"Alright, let me finish. There's still a 'but' to it," Kote knocked on the table forcefully.

Finally, the commotion below subsided, and they began to listen for the good news.

"The good news is that the government is now establishing a new police force. More than half of you can become police officers. However, for those who don't want to be police, you can also join the current urban construction efforts. Furthermore, I am currently also serving as the Governor of Vadiel, and I have a Security Company under my name that is recruiting personnel. There are many choices."

"What about the salary and benefits?" This was most people's first thought.

"Many opportunities," Kote only said four words.

Early the next morning, a new life began in the barracks. Kote led people in selection. The excellent ones were all selected for his Security Company, while the remaining ones, though slightly less capable but still good, went to become part of the police force.

Kote packed up all the equipment Satine had bought and took it with him, directly bringing nearly a thousand people back to Vadiel.
