Chapter 29 - Chapter Twenty-Eight Coruscant

The three of them took a republic consular-class cruiser and landed in a hangar on Coruscant, then transferred to a landspeeder to head to the Jedi Temple in the Temple District, next to the Senate District.

"This is simply too prosperous!" Kurt, having lived two lives, had never seen such a bustling city. Flying vehicles came and went incessantly, and people lived their hurried lives in this galactic city.

"When I was little, before I left Coruscant, I thought all places would be this prosperous, but quite the opposite, Coruscant is the only one in the galaxy—" Obi-Wan drove the landspeeder from the sky lane towards the Jedi Temple.

Even from a distance, a massive complex of buildings could be seen, with the most prominent being the pyramid-shaped Jedi Temple, towering significantly above the others.

Leaving the flowing sky lane, Obi-Wan autonomously drove to the Jedi Temple's landing platform. The three disembarked the landspeeder and headed towards a nearby spire, en route to the Jedi Council Chamber, to discuss Kurt's entry into the Jedi Order as an apprentice with the Jedi Council.

But as soon as they entered the spire, they saw Qui-Gon Jinn's Master, Great Master Dooku.

"Master."

"Great Master."

"Great Master."

"Oh, my old apprentice, I presume this is your apprentice, Obi-Wan. You are excellent, your Master often spoke of you to me. But who is this?" Dooku looked at the three who had arrived.

"Thank you, Great Master," Obi-Wan nodded in acknowledgment.

"This is a very talented young man I met on Mandalore. We plan to have Kurt join the Jedi Order," Qui-Gon introduced Kurt.

"Hmm, but the Order has been corrupt for a long time. They only act according to their creed, especially Great Master Windu. But I wish you good luck," Dooku said before leaving for the landing platform.

The three took the elevator up to the entrance of the Council Chamber. Before they even entered, they heard the Great Masters inside discussing Great Master Dooku's intention to leave the Jedi Order. But with the entry of Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan, they temporarily halted their discussion.

There were twelve seats in total, but only eight Great Masters were actually present. The remaining Great Masters were still on other planets fulfilling tasks assigned by the Jedi Council, participating in discussions via holographic projection. However, the present Great Masters could largely be described as old-fashioned, though Great Master Yaddle was somewhat more open-minded.

The two first reported the general situation of their mission and explained Kurt's circumstances.

"You believe that child is a congregation of mitochondrion?" Great Master Windu asked.

"The mitochondrion content in his blood far surpasses many others. He might be born of The Force's favor."

The surrounding Great Masters looked at each other in disbelief upon hearing this.

"Are you suggesting this is the one prophesied to bring balance to The Force, and you believe it's just a child?"

"I didn't say..."

"But you believe it, you said it quite clearly," Great Master Yoda interjected.

"Let him take the test, Master."

"To train him as a Jedi Knight?"

"The Force brought me to him. I have no doubt."

The Great Masters looked at each other in silence and finally agreed to let Kurt undergo the test.

After they left, Obi-Wan told Kurt to go in for the test. Kurt walked into the Council Chamber. Great Master Windu took out the testing instrument and asked,

"Can you see the image behind this?"

"It's a spaceship." Then Windu switched the image again.

"It's a lightsaber."

"A table."

Windu saw that multiple questions were all answered correctly and handed the rest of the test to Great Master Yoda. Great Master Yoda then used The Force to move around Kurt, causing the temperature around him to drop.

"The temperature around me is dropping, Great Master," Kurt answered truthfully.

"We can see through you."

"I can see through you too, Great Masters."

"Oh, I feel your powerful Force, but you wish to return to your home planet."

"That's right, Great Master, and I sense the Dark Side. I believe you feel it too."

"No, young Kurt, that is merely your inaccurate foresight. Besides, what are you afraid of? It's as if something is about to happen, prompting you to feel this way."

"It is the Dark Side, Great Master."

"These are all incursions of the Dark Side. Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hatred, hatred leads to suffering. This will cause you to fall to the Dark Side."

Soon, Qui-Gon and the other person also walked in, announcing Kurt's result.

"I don't think we can take Kurt," Great Master Windu said.

"He is too old, and he has already been assailed by the Dark Side," Ki-Adi-Mundi said.

"Then shouldn't we be the ones to correct him!" Qui-Gon retorted.

"It is Chaos. The child's future in The Force is unclear," Great Master Yoda made the final decision.

"May The Force be with you."

The three of them, including Qui-Gon, nodded and left the meeting room. Even after Great Master Qui-Gon returned to discuss the matter again, he came back with his head down.

"I'm sorry, Kurt, the Council did not agree to you becoming an apprentice," Qui-Gon apologized to Kurt.

"It's alright, Great Master. This is just a small interlude for me. Even if I can't continue training, I will focus on it myself."

"The Elders are truly hidebound," Obi-Wan expressed dissatisfaction with the Council for the first time.

"Perhaps this is fate. I'll be returning to Mandalore in a couple of days, after all, many places haven't settled down yet." After speaking, Kurt left the Jedi Temple first, but Obi-Wan, fearing he was unfamiliar with the place, immediately followed along.

"Cousin, I'll be returning to Mandalore in a couple of days. The Council rejected me because they think I'm too old," Kurt told Satine about what happened on Coruscant, while Obi-Wan kept trying to eavesdrop.

"Hmm, I still have an apartment on Coruscant, in the Senate District. If you don't have a place to rest, go there first," she said, sending the location and access code.

Kurt nodded, indicating he understood. "So, where are we going?" Obi-Wan asked.

"Let's go to the Senate District. I'll rest there for a night and then take a ship back to Mandalore. I get homesick if I'm away too long."

"Don't wander around, after all, this is Coruscant, and there are all sorts of strange things here," Obi-Wan cautioned him twice, then left directly after dropping him off at his destination.

Kurt opened the door and walked in. The place was spotless, obviously cleaned regularly by a robot. Kurt lay in the guest room, contemplating his future, such as what to do next. Should he just be a local governor, or did he have greater aspirations?

"No need to think about it, I must have greater aspirations, otherwise I'll just be a minor character in the future!" Kurt muttered to himself, jumping out of bed. He immediately changed into his Mandalore armor, put on his cloak, and went downstairs to rent a temporary landspeeder, preparing to head to the lower levels of Coruscant. After all, he needed to interact with them first to see if there was anyone he could learn from.

Kurt jumped onto the landspeeder and told the protocol droid, "To the lower levels of Coruscant, the most chaotic area."

"Are you sure, Master? After all, it's not safe there," the protocol droid asked Kurt if he really wanted to go.

"Just do as I say."

"Alright, Master," the protocol droid reluctantly drove to the lower levels, where the true Coruscant, belonging to the common people, resided.
