Chapter 25 - Ashes of Control

Inside the fracture realm, Ghost stood at the center of a storm of collapsing dimensions. The sky above him had become a shifting ocean of glowing cracks, each one opening and closing like breathing wounds in space.

Fragments of distant worlds flashed inside them—cities burning, oceans roaring, mountains floating upside down.

The Archons moved through the chaos like white shadows.

Unbothered.

Unstoppable.

Rook slid across the fractured ground and barely avoided a gravity surge that crushed a section of the plain into dust.

"Alright," he shouted, breathing hard. "New rule!"

He ducked another distortion blast.

"No more anger-fueled reality explosions!"

Ghost ignored him.

The red light around his hands was growing brighter.

The fracture was answering him too easily now.

That wasn't good.

One of the Archons lunged forward, its arm transforming into a blade of compressed dimensional energy. The weapon sliced through the air and split the ground open like paper.

Ghost dodged sideways, the blade missing his shoulder by inches.

But the air pressure alone threw him twenty feet across the fractured plain.

He rolled and slammed against a floating slab of broken stone.

Rook appeared beside him instantly.

"You alive?"

Ghost coughed once.

"Working on it."

The three Archons closed in slowly.

Perfect formation.

Hunters.

Studying their prey.

Rook wiped blood from his lip.

"They're learning."

Ghost stood up.

"So are we."

Above them, the cracks in the sky shifted again.

But this time—

Ghost forced them still.

The storm stopped moving.

Rook blinked.

"…you did that on purpose?"

Ghost nodded.

"Trying something new."

Control

The Archons stopped advancing.

They sensed the shift immediately.

The fracture realm had rules.

And Ghost was beginning to write them.

One of the Archons raised its arm again.

VARIABLE INSTABILITY INCREASING.

Ghost stepped forward.

Red energy spread outward from his boots.

The fractured ground stabilized wherever he walked.

The void listened.

Rook watched with growing amazement.

"Well I'll be damned…"

Ghost lifted his hand.

One of the cracks in the sky responded instantly, widening like an obedient door.

Inside it—

A glimpse of Earth.

The ruined city they had just left.

Rook's eyes widened.

"You just opened a gate."

Ghost lowered his hand again.

The crack sealed shut.

"Testing limits."

The Archons suddenly attacked.

All three moved at once.

The ground shattered as they crossed the distance in a single instant.

Rook barely reacted in time, drawing his blade and parrying one of the strikes with a burst of fracture energy.

Ghost ducked under another attack and slammed his fist into the Archon's chest.

Reality bent.

The impact didn't damage the creature.

But it pushed it back several meters.

Ghost stared at his hand.

"…that should've broken bones."

Rook shouted while fighting the second Archon.

"Welcome to fighting higher-dimensional beings!"

The third Archon raised its arm again.

But before it could strike—

The entire fracture realm trembled.

All four combatants stopped instantly.

Because something far worse had just entered the system.

Protocol Omega

Deep beneath the Atlantic Ocean, a massive steel door slowly opened.

Inside the chamber sat an object humanity had never used.

A weapon older than Dominion itself.

Not nuclear.

Not biological.

Something far stranger.

A Dimensional Collapse Engine.

Designed during the earliest fracture experiments.

Its purpose was simple.

Erase unstable reality zones.

Completely.

The operator inside the control chamber whispered nervously.

"Omega targeting confirmed."

Coordinates appeared on the screen.

Directly on Ghost's signal.

Another officer swallowed.

"If we fire this… that entire region of space collapses."

The operator looked toward Commander Vasquez through the glass wall.

She didn't hesitate.

"Fire."

The Warning

Back in the fracture realm, Ghost felt it instantly.

A disturbance.

Massive.

Artificial.

He looked up toward the broken sky.

Rook noticed his expression.

"…what?"

Ghost's voice dropped.

"Humans."

Rook frowned.

"That's not helpful."

Ghost pointed upward.

One of the fractures was expanding violently.

But this one wasn't natural.

Something was forcing it open from the outside.

Rook's eyes widened.

"Oh no."

A blinding beam of white energy erupted through the crack.

Not like fracture energy.

Something colder.

Sharper.

Engineered.

The Archons turned toward it immediately.

Even they recognized the threat.

Ghost whispered one word.

"Omega."

Rook stared at him.

"You know what that is?!"

Ghost nodded grimly.

"A kill switch."

The beam widened.

Reality around it began folding inward like burning paper.

Entire sections of the fracture realm collapsed instantly.

One of the Archons was caught in the edge of the blast.

For the first time—

It screamed.

Not in pain.

In alarm.

DIMENSIONAL ERASURE DETECTED.

Rook grabbed Ghost's arm.

"We need to leave!"

Ghost didn't move.

Because he was staring at the beam.

Studying it.

Understanding it.

And something inside him clicked.

Slowly…

Ghost raised his hand toward the collapsing beam.

Rook panicked.

"Simon don't you dare—"

Ghost closed his fist.

The fracture realm answered.

The Omega beam bent.

Not stopped.

Bent.

Like light passing through water.

Rook froze.

"…did you just redirect the apocalypse?"

Ghost exhaled slowly.

"Working on it."

But the weapon wasn't done.

More beams began piercing the fracture realm.

Reality itself was beginning to die around them.

And Ghost realized something terrifying.

Dominion wasn't trying to save the world anymore.

They were trying to reset it.
