Chapter 7 - CH 7

"The mystery continues," Sam sighed.

"Okay so what—", Clint began to speak, but suddenly JARVIS interrupted him.

"It seems that Mr. Jackson is waking up."

"That's not possible, he should at least be out for a day or two, it's only been 6 hours." Tony insisted as they all stood.

"Guess it's time to get some answers," Natasha said as she walked out the room.

Percy grimaced slightly as he felt a mild headache begin pounding in his head. He started to focus on his surroundings, trying to move. He quickly realized that his arms and legs were restrained. Panic started to rise in him, but he forced himself to remain calm. He opened his eyes, grimacing again at the harsh fluorescent light. He blinked a couple of times to clear the spots as his eyes adjusted.

He gritted his teeth and he turned his head to see his shoulder completely encased in bandages. He was wearing gray pants and his chest was bare. To his dismay, the familiar weight of riptide was missing since he didn't have any pockets. Percy then started examining his left arm. He saw several IVs sticking out of his arm, each connected to machines off to the side. Something told Percy it wasn't just for medicine, as he recognized one as a heart monitor giving off the steady rhythm of his heart. He also noticed that he had some wires attached to silver disks that were stuck to his bare chest. Looking at the rest of the room everything was the standard sterile white of a hospital room, except for one wall with a large mirror. He sighed and leaned back into the chair that resembled one you would see in a dentist's office. Nice going Seaweed Brain, he thought.

Suddenly, the wall seemed to slide open revealing two men and a woman. The first one to walk in was a tall African American man wearing a black trench coat with a matching shirt and tactical pants. He also had an eye-patch that reminded him of Ethan Nakamura. The second was a shorter Caucasian man who looked a little nervous. He was wearing a doctor's coat, a purple button-down shirt, and dark brown slacks. Honestly he reminded Percy of Paul. The last person he recognized to be the woman that had been following him, but now she wore a black catsuit with silver bracelets. The doctor walked over and checked all the machines.

"How are you feeling?" the man asked.

"Fine," was Percy's reply, but he didn't take his eyes off the two that stood in front of him. The nervous doctor then looked back at the man with the eye-patch who nodded, and the doctor left.

Behind the glass inside a viewing room were the rest of the Avengers. Fury insisted that they waited a few minutes after Perseus woke up to see his reaction to being captured. To his frustration the boy had barely reacted at all.

The Avengers had watched as the SHIELD operatives and Dr. Banner had entered the room. Most saw Jackson's eyes narrow as he watched them closely. "He's already analyzing them," Steve muttered in amazement. Bucky gave a slight nod in agreement.

"Wonder how long he'll hold out before spilling," Tony snorted as they watched Bruce check the medical equipment before exiting the room and joined them to watch.

"He seems fine, a little too calm if you ask me," Sam added.

"I've got to be honest, this doesn't feel right. He's just a kid, we're supposed to be protecting kids like him, not interrogating them." Steve whispered, surprising the occupants of the room.

"I'm more worried about what monster created all those scars." Scott replied. He hated child abuse and this was an extreme case. They all looked inside as they saw Fury begin to ask the mysterious boy a few questions.

"So Perseus Jackson, we have a few questions for you." The kid's eyes revealed nothing as he stared at Fury and Natasha impassively. He seemed to not have a care in the world, which was impressive considering the fact that he was strapped to a chair.

"I never did catch your names." Natasha's eyes widened slightly by his presumptuous tone. The Avengers behind the glass chuckled a little bit.

"I am the Director of SHIELD, this is Agent Romanoff, and the man that just left was Dr. Banner. Now we can get to the questions." Fury kept his voice level and unbothered. He had practice with that from dealing with Tony.

"Sure, why not…my first question is what gives you the right to kidnap me?" Percy asked in a slightly smug tone. Tony snorted inside the viewing room. "My second is: what the heck is SHIELD?" The kid turned the situation around to put himself in control of the situation, which was impressive since he was the one being restrained.

"SHIELD stands for Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division and you are here, Perseus Jackson because we need information about both you and who you work for." Fury kept his voice calm but his eyes showed mild irritation. "We need to know about your powers, origins… accomplices—."

"First of all, I don't go by Perseus, it's Percy, and why would you need such information?" Percy cut off the director. "I also know it's illegal to just kidnap people off the streets."

"My position as Director gives me the authority to apprehend suspicious persons that pose a threat to public safety." Fury's voice now had a harder edge to it.

"Me, a threat to public safety, good one 'director'" Percy snickered, "So if I'm a threat why am I here? I'm pretty sure you guys wouldn't leave me alive if I was such a big threat." The sarcasm was practically dripping from his voice but his face was deadly serious. Steve flinched. No teenager should be so blunt about their own possible death regardless of what they'd been through.

"You don't seem all that concerned about your potential death," Natasha echoed Steve's thoughts. Jackson shrugged, or tried to in his restraints.

"I'm usually about to die, so this isn't anything new." That got everyone to frown, especially since they didn't know if he was being sarcastic or not. The kid leaned back in the chair looking up at the ceiling showing that he wasn't going to talk anymore. Fury and Nat walked out and joined the rest of the Avengers in the viewing room.

"Knock him out. We're moving him," Fury ordered. Bruce walked into the room and frowned as he watched Percy close his eyes and go back into the land of unconsciousness.

"What are you planning on doing with him?" Tony asked.

"Taking him to the Helicarrier and putting him in the Hulk cell. I'm not taking any chances."

Everyone's eyes wide that Fury saw this kid as that much of a threat that they had to put him in the most secure cell.
