Chapter 37 - Chapter 37: Preparing for Internships

"I still can't believe we managed to get offers!" Jiro heard Uraraka yell as they used the study hall to chat with each other. "I don't know who I'm going to pick!"

"Aren't you aiming to be a rescue hero?" Tsu asked her. "Someone from that area of expertise seems suitable for this situation."

"Well yeah, but after fighting Bakugo I realized I need some more fighting options other than touch them and win." She spoke, looking it over. "So I'm thinking of joining a combat type hero to be better-well rounded."

"Sounds like a smart idea, except I don't have many options to begin with." Sero sighed, looking at the ONE offer he had. "At least Kamui woods might know a thing or two about mobility."

"Well it's gotta be better than death arms." Jiro spoke. "So far he's the only good option I have for reconnaissance training."

"I got one from Mount Lady!" Mineta spoke, already thinking of something lewd no doubt. "Obviously, my charms have shined through at the festival!"

"Oh, that name is on my list too." Iruma spoke.

"You should definitely join to-"

"You better give a solid answer other than boob Mineta." Hagakure spoke with tones of murder.

"Help on avoiding collateral damage when you toss out powerful attacks?" Huh, that was actually a nice save.

"Oh really? Wow, I wish I actually knew who these people were." Right, terrible parents. "They all sound super cool."

"Let me take a look, I've done research on a lot of the heroes to keep tabs on techniques." Jiro watched as Todoroki grabbed the boy's paper. Definitely less stoic than before the festival. "Hmm … you got offers from five top ten heroes." HE WHAT!?

Bakugo began choking on air. "Who the FUCK does he have!?"

"Well he doesn't have All Might or Endeavor, which is actually strange considering the latter was laughing for an hour straight about 'Bunny-sensei' before trying to communicate to me for some strange reason."

"Let me take a look." Jiro's curiosity peaked and..wow, that was an impressive line up for such a short list. "Hawks, Wash, Miriko, Gang Orca, and Edgeshot."

"Surprised he didn't get Best Jeanist." Kaminari spoke up.

" I got Best Jeanist." Bakugo looked over his offer, before sighing. "You should go for Hawks, he's in the top three and he can teach you a lot more than the rest of the heroes on the list."

"Hold on, let him have a little more context about the others before...and he already chose." Tsu pointed to Iruma writing down his choice.

"Miriko's Rabbit-Sama, right?" Iruma innocently asked. "I figure if Bunny-sensei can teach me a lot then so can Rabbit-sama."

"That...actually makes a lot of sense surprisingly." Shoji spoke from his hand. "She's pretty fast and agile like you, so if you want to learn more about mobility, she might actually be the best option on this list aside from Edgeshot."

"Miriko huh … imagine the muscles on those legs." Damn it Mineta … fuck, now she WAS imagining those muscles.

"Miriko huh? She's not known to take on sidekicks or team ups too often." Ojiro pointed out. "So you must've really impressed her at the sports festival for her to send an offer.

"Plus she's in the top ten. Mom and Dad said I should be aiming for higher up heroes to learn from." And now that was a conversation to worry about. Great. Anything else going wrong?

"I think I'm gonna go with … Mandalay." Kaminari spoke up. The wild wild pussycat team?

"Come on, don't be Mineta." She argued at him. "Even you can't be stupid enough to waste two weeks just to stare at catgirls all day Jamming-whey…"

"Would it kill you to not call me stupid every five minutes!" The boy got super defensive faster than usual. "I can make choices for myself that can actually help me improve! Mind your own business for once in your life and BUZZ OFF!"

Ouch, that … stung deeper than she thought. She looked away as the classroom became really awkward.

"I AM HERE..IN…" Even All Might's cheesy posing couldn't save the situation. "... What appears to be an awkward environment … Young Suzuki should I wait or …"

"It's fine!" The boy grabbed his things and ran off. She felt she should be more concerned, but her thoughts were on the electric dun-okay, maybe she had a problem.

All Might was shaking from dread. Just today, moments ago, a sign of foreboding doom appeared in the school inbox of internship offers. His old mentor had sent in his own offer to Young Suzuki, and he couldn't help but feel guilty about giving the boy the option.

Sure, Gran Torino was a trusted ally, teacher, and friend, but his method just might be what drove Suzuki off the deep end. Such an innocent soul was not ready to face a harsh reality. "Bunny-sensei, you're shaking a lot and super sweaty."

"Oh, it's fine just … got in touch with my old teacher." He explained to the child. "Calm down leg!" He began to hit it.

"Are you having a spasm attack?" No, he didn't have those. Anymore.

"Just fine. If I may ask, what was with the mood back there? Did Young Bakugo insult a sensitive topic?"

"No, Jiro calls Kaminari stupid and he got upset. He's been really down about it lately, almost looks as down as Iida has been today. I'm worried about both of them. Wish there was something I could do."

"Maybe they need some space?" All Might suggested. "All the time in classes and the festival gave them stress? If they're still acting angsty when they come back, then we can try something else."

"Okay, that sounds good." Suzuki still looked conflicted. "I don't know if Iida should be alone. I heard about what happened to his brother from Ochako. I wouldn't want to be alone if someone I cared about was attacked." That was fair.

"I see, maybe you can talk about it with your internship hero and see if you can swing by … speaking of, here." He handed Young Suzuki the cursed letter. "From my teacher."

"Oh, he gave me a card? But I didn't get him anything."

"Wha..no. It's my mentor's offer. He sent one for you." He waited for the moment the boy would no doubt eagerly except without hesi..

"Sorry, but I already made my choice." Oh … good for him. He didn't have to expect the torment and suffering that Toshinori went through.

"Good to hear! Who is it, if I may ask?"

"Rabbit-sama! Or I guess you guys call her Miriko." Miriko? She could make it work. Plenty of close range combat skills and traversal capabilities. Would match his instinct based style as well.

Stain's first thought was killing that misty asshole the second he could locate him. The second was why the hell was he in a bar? A really good one at that. Damn it, did the Yakuza want him for some reason? He doesn't remember killing any of those bastards recently.

"What the fuck?" Apparently, he wasn't alone in a bar. There was some blue haired brat with hands on his face. Right, those league of villain bastards. He held up his blades and aimed them at the villain. "Do you just have no manners, dropping in unannounced before aiming a weapon at me?"

"You have a lot of nerve saying that when it was your warping bastard that summoned as I was going about my business." Stain may have not been a vigilante anymore, but he had no qualms in culling villains. "Tell me why I shouldn't take my blade and slash it against your throat."

Said misty bastard appeared behind the bar. "Alright, your still alive, that's a plus."

"Kurogiri brought you here …" The man looked thoughtful. "Then that means you're the Hero Killer: Stain. Right?"

"And you're the supposed 'master' that the man talked about?" The brat didn't look like much at all. He had a hard time believing this annoyance could've led so many on the USJ attack.

"I suppose I am." Why did that sound so cryptic? "I wanted to talk with you. Ask some questions. You can do what you want after."

All that trouble for a couple of questions? He didn't know whether to be impressed or insulted. "You have my curiosity for the moment."

"Why do you kill heroes?" That was the most obvious one, given his target list.

"They were all fakes." As simple as that.

"What makes a hero a fake?" The hand-brat asked. "What's your definition of a hero?"

"Someone who puts themselves first before this concept of 'pros' ruined our society." He stated. "How it was before quirk regulations. When one puts on a mask and protects people without care of fame, money, status." The good old days.

"So 'true' heroes only existed in the age of vigilantes?" The boy muttered to himself in a slightly disbelieving tone. "What do you think of All Might?" He asked this question with the most investment in his tone.

"The only true hero in our society." Apparently that was the wrong thing to say, given the way the counter crumbled. "Let me guess, you want him dead?"

"... Used to." So his conviction wavered … that alone was a death sentence in Stain's eyes. "I've had some time to think about All Might's impact on the world. I hate it. I hate how he's touched EVERY corner of this damn hero society, and I want to get rid of it."

"What makes All Might so deplorable in your eyes. He's the only real hero on the planet. One that sacrifices himself for others, does it for the cause, ignoring fame and money."

"I don't hate him … well I guess I find him annoying at most." The man stated. "I hate the way he made the world. To let people think that a kid about to be killed on the sidewalk is fine because a hero will come and save them."

That...that was a good point...a very specific and detailed point...one that was probably personal too. Stain saw small sparks of ambition within this brat, but it was watered down by his uncertainty. From the sounds of it however, it looks like something of worth could come out of him. "So what do you seek now?" He asked.

"The destruction of heroism and its society … to fix it all in a way that makes me less pissed off." A bit childish in all honesty. "I was hoping what you said would make it simpler or show me something to work with."

"And did I make it clear?"

"Yes...you've made it clear that even villains can blindly worship that symbol of crap." The boy turned to the mist villain. "I got my answer. Take him away before I turn him to dust." A portal opened up. Stain glancing at it and then at the boy.

"I see potential sprouting … what keeps you alive is my curiosity of what it will change into." And with that, he walked through.

Iida stood in silence as the group chatted. He was on autopilot all day, simply focused on hurting the bastard in question. He would have done it alone, but for some reason Hagakure joined him. He could have sworn she got better offers, it was strange.

"Oh, Iruma, before I forget." Yaoyarozu pulled out a phone. "So you can contact us in case of an emergency."

"Oh, thank you Yaoyarozu." The boy took it. "But won't you need your phone yourself? What if your parents need you?" He had a point.

"Oh no worries, I bought this one for you." … The class stood in silence. "What?"

"Momo, that's the latest line stuff." Ashido looked at the phone in question. "I thought you just made the thing."

"Oh I could, but I shouldn't. I can't risk ruining the economy by creating my own products. That would be abusing my quirk." She made a fair argument, a responsible citizen … just like his brother was …

"But this is five hundred thousand yen!" Kaminari looked at the device.

"I know, it's a wonder I could find it so cheap." Okay, even though his own family was more than capable of purchasing something of similar value, he would never call fifty thousand yen cheap.

"Yaoyarozu, I can't accept this! I would just use it to pay off a few debts or something!" Suzuki nervously shouted.

"Iruma, please, I insist. You're my vice representative, I have a duty to watch over everyone in class, that especially goes for you."

"Yeah, besides, now you have a way of calling us during the week!" Uraraka joined in. "It'll be like we're there with you and vice versa."

"Okay. Oh, Iida." Suzuki turned to face him. "Be sure to call regularly, we're friends, right?"

Such a naive soul...too naive for the real world despite all the hardship he endured. "Right, of course." He couldn't face him as his train came up. "I'll see you at the end of the week." Suzuki wasn't capable of understanding. He was too childish to comprehend what needed to happen..to understand why killing was appropriate in this situation.

Miriko waited in the bedroom apartment, playing with a ball and a wall. Sure she could spend the money on a nice place, but that was better spent on training equipment, portable games, and food. All the necessities. "Wow, so big!" The kid looked wide eyed excited upon seeing what was, in her opinion at least, a slightly smaller than average room.

"Well, I guess it's just different opinions." She stood up and cracked her back. "Okay boy, let's get started. First up, throw a punch at me."

"Oh really? But what if I hurt you?" That got the second biggest laugh out of her since 'Bunny sensei.

"Oh, you're funny, but I'm serious. Throw a punch at me." She rolled her eyes. "I've seen what you can do at the festival, and quite frankly, your punches are shit. You couldn't hurt me if you tried."

"Okay, if you say so." The kid took a deep breath, arm reared back with a minor spark as he went at her … only for her to grab his arm, lock his body in place to prevent evasion., and kick him to a wall with minimal force he needed to, in her opinion, walk it off. "Why is everybody suddenly able to stop me from dodging all of a sudden?"

"Engine Kids's speed from the festival? Mildly impressive. You're reaching a league you can't even comprehend, kid. There's going to be attacks instinct alone won't be able to react to. So we need to hyper develop your mind to fight with and without it." Short and long term, along with working on form, that punch was terrible. "Now while I make a workout plan, make some carrot soup or something."

"Okay!" The boy headed straight for the kitchen and pulled out a couple dozen carrots she was saving for later. "Is this enough for soup?"

So the kid didn't know how sarcasm worked either. She was going to have alotta FUN with that alone.
