Chapter 5 - To the human lands

Michelle's POV

I got down from my brother's car. Kate and Micha were consoling me, but I could tell Micha was furious he looked like he was about to cut ties with Levi. I didn't want that. I didn't want to be the reason their friendship ended.

I saw Micha typing angrily on his phone. I could already guess he was texting Levi. I didn't know what he told him, but Levi seemed to be trying to apologize. When I glanced at the screen, I caught a glimpse of his message:

> "We're already very close to the truth. You want to give up now?"

I didn't know what truth they were talking about, but I really hoped they wouldn't end their friendship because of what happened.

I was broken. I didn't think Levi would actually mark Clara. He could've just lied that she was his future Luna. He didn't have to mark her.

It was intentional.

I understand I'm weak. Only someone with a death wish would want to be with someone like me.

Clara would make a strong Luna, no doubt. But I don't think she's the Luna this pack needs.

A pity for the weak ones… those who have no one to rely on.

I was going to leave this pack. I'd go to the human world, get a job or something.

I couldn't stay here any longer.

I'd leave in the next four weeks. I'd have to tell Kate and Micha they'd be sad, but I'm sure they'd understand.

I could always come back to visit.

It's going to be alright, I told myself, and went to bed.

The next morning, I got ready and decided to go to Kate's house. I wanted to tell her about my decision.

I could've called her, but I didn't. I wanted to talk to her in person to take this weight of pain off my chest.

Just because I got rejected doesn't mean I should act all sad and weak. It's not the end of the world.

I'll be fine. I'll let the mate bond wear off on its own. I just have to avoid Levi, so I won't be reminded of the pain.

I walked downstairs and heard Kira and my brother giggling. They sounded happy too happy.

They were cooking together.

When they saw me, they both smiled. But I could see pity in their smiles.

I hated that.

I didn't like being pitied.

"Hey, Micha. Hi, Kira. Good morning," I greeted.

They replied in unison, "Good morning. Did you sleep well?"

Of course, I didn't. I was sad and devastated all night.

But I just smiled and decided to tell them my plans.

"Um, Micha," I began softly, "I know you've been a really good brother, but I assure you I'm old enough to take care of myself now."

Micha looked tense. "Why are you saying this? Is something bad going to happen?"

"Oh, no," I said quickly. "It's just… I've decided to go to the human lands. I want to live there. Maybe then, I'll feel like I belong. People won't call me weak. They'll see me for who I really am."

He looked at me sadly. "If that's what you want, then… I'll tell Zaki. He has a few connections in the human world. He'll help you find a place to stay and get a job."

He sighed deeply. "I'm sorry I couldn't convince Levi, even though he's my friend. And that's why I'm going to drop the title."

"Which title?" I asked nervously.

"The Beta title," he said. "I'm going to step down after we settle something. We're both working on an investigation. Once we find the truth, we're done as friends."

I stared at him in disbelief. "You're going to throw away your title over something so stupid? Do you think Dad would be happy about this? He was the Beta of the old Alpha, and you know how much he wanted you to take his place. You're just going to throw it all away because I was rejected?"

"Yes," he said angrily. "I'd throw it away. What if you don't get a second-chance mate? What if you're lonely for the rest of your life? I'll never forgive myself."

"Micha, I don't need all this. If you drop the Beta title, I'll never forgive you." I forced a smile. "I understand this situation is painful, but I'll get better. The mate bond will fade, and eventually, I'll forget about him. Who says I can't marry a human and live happily?"

I picked up my bag. "No need for all this stress. I'll be going to Kate's house. I'll be back in the evening."

On my way to Kate's house, I decided to walk instead of taking a cab I just felt like walking. But honestly, I regret it. I should have taken the cab.

I suddenly spotted Levi driving. He passed me, then unexpectedly hit the brakes. I was surprised Clara wasn't beside him.

He reversed the car and looked at me with an unreadable expression. Just his gaze alone made my wolf perk up excitedly, her tail practically wagging.

I froze. What did he want? Was he here to tell me to stay away from him? He hasn't spoken a single word to me, so I had no idea what to expect. When he finally opened his mouth to speak, I was stunned.

"I can drop you. Where are you going?" he asked.

I was confused. Why would he ask me that? Didn't he hate me?

"I'm fine, Alpha. It's not far I can walk," I replied.

He frowned. "Where are you going?"

How could someone ask a question in such a dangerously sexy voice? His minty scent was overwhelming, attacking my senses. I needed to leave fast.

"I'm asking you one last time. Where are you going?" he repeated.

Frustrated, I snapped without thinking. "How is that your business, Alpha? Do you even think we should be talking right now?"

He ignored my words completely, grabbed my hand, and pulled me toward his car. He opened the door and practically put me in the front seat.

When he got in, the air instantly became suffocating the entire car was filled with his scent. And another scent... Clara's. I frowned.

"Why are you doing this? Didn't you already make it clear that day?" I asked sharply.

"I didn't reject you," he said quietly.

"But your actions did," I shot back.

"Yes... everything I did that day was wrong," he admitted.

Was he trying to apologize? I didn't need his apology.

I pointed ahead. "That's Kate's house. I'll get off here, Alpha Levi."

Before I could step out, he leaned closer and whispered, "You want to marry a human and live happily, huh? We'll see."

My eyes widened.

How did he know about that? Did Micha tell him? No Micha wouldn't do that.

I didn't understand. I just got down from the car and walked away.

Kate looked excited to see me until she noticed Levi. Her expression instantly turned cold.

"What are you doing with him?" she snapped.

Zaki was there too. His face hardened the moment he saw Levi.

Levi simply turned his car around and drove off.
