Chapter 9 - I failed you.

Werewolf Realm

Levi's POV

The forest was eerily silent as Micha and I pushed through the thick trees. The moon hung low, casting pale light over the woods. My wolf, Magnus, paced violently inside me — his growls loud in my mind.

Something is wrong.

Every breath I took tasted like fear.

Micha led the way ahead, though he didn't know where he was going. His hands trembled as he pushed aside branches, his voice broken as he kept whispering her name…

"Michelle… please be okay."

It tore at my chest.

We finally reached the old lair — the secret hideout where some omegas came to escape pack duties or to cry where no one could see them. A place Michelle had always used to hide her pain.

And then… I saw her.

A figure lying motionless on the cold ground — small, fragile, lifeless.

My heart stopped.

My feet moved on their own. I approached slowly, praying — begging — that the body was not who I feared it was. But as the moonlight fell across her face…

My entire world collapsed.

It was her.

Michelle.

My mate.

Dead.

"No…" The word barely escaped my mouth. My knees hit the ground beside her.

Her body was battered — bruises everywhere, dried blood staining her skin. Her arms looked twisted, and her head....

It was clear she had been beaten mercilessly.

Magnus roared inside me.

"We failed her!"

His voice shook through my bones.

I tried to breathe, but the air refused to enter my lungs. A sharp pain pierced my chest — guilt, regret, horror — all crashing down at once.

I cupped her face with trembling hands.

Her skin was ice cold.

"She must have been so scared," I whispered.

Tears blurred my vision. I didn't deserve to cry — not after everything I had done to her… or failed to do.

Magnus pushed violently against my control.

"You rejected her warmth. You refused her love!"

His voice was full of rage and heartbreak.

I didn't argue. He was right.

I had chosen Clara.

I had chosen the pack's expectations.

I had chosen strength over heart.

And now… my mate lay dead.

The faint scent of Clara's perfume still clung to Michelle's hair — a nauseating sweetness that made my rage burn hotter.

Magnus snarled, "She did this. That vixen did this."

The memories flooded back — Clara entering the pack house days ago, hands stained red.

"Oh don't worry. It's not my blood…" she had told me proudly.

"Just some weak creature who needs to know her place."

That weak creature was Michelle.

My vision tinted gold — Magnus breaking through.

Micha's sobs filled the silence. "She was my sister," he cried, voice cracking. "My only family… and I couldn't protect her."

His grief echoed mine.

Magnus snapped inside me. "We will avenge her. No mercy."

My control slipped.

And then Magnus took over completely.

My posture straightened, my breathing deepened — dominance radiating from every cell of my being. The shift in power was instant. Micha stiffened, eyes widening.

"W–Who am I speaking to?" he whispered in fear.

Magnus stared straight ahead, voice colder than winter.

"You will see," he promised darkly.

He lifted Michelle into his arms — her body limp like a discarded doll.

A tear slid down my cheek — the last shred of Levi still conscious.

"You deserved better…" he whispered to her unconscious ears.

Then Magnus turned and stormed back toward the pack house — every step filled with lethal intent.

The Pack House — Chaos

News travels quickly in a pack. By the time Magnus reached the gates, wolves were gathered, whispering nervously. Their eyes widened when they saw who he carried.

The weak omega… dead.

The one who relied on her brother's protection, always avoiding attention was dead, they didn't know what was happening, how did she die? , Did a rouge attack the pack ? What happened? They didn't know what happened but they knew,

Something big was coming. They could feel it, the air was thick with tension as the alpha walked through the crowd.

Kate burst through the crowd, tears streaming down her face as she tried to get to Michelle. Zaki held her back, trying to keep her from collapsing completely.

Inside the pack house, Clara appeared — perfect hair, smug expression… until she saw the body.

She gasped dramatically.

"Oh Goddess! What happened to her? Is she dead?" she asked, pretending to care.

Magnus didn't respond immediately.

He looked at her — and I swear the entire room froze from the cold fury in his gaze.

"You ask that as if you don't already know the answer," Magnus growled.

Clara blinked. "W-What are you talking about? I—"

"You murdered my mate."

The room gasped.

Clara stumbled backward. "N-No! I would never—"

But her lies shattered as the two maids who accompanied her that day stepped forward, trembling.

"She told us to beat her…" one confessed.

"She kept slamming her head against the wall… and Michelle refused to cry…" the second whispered in terror.

Every wolf in the hall stared at Clara with disgust.

Magnus took a step forward, voice dripping venom.

"She was weak, and you made it your mission to destroy the weak. But what you killed… was my true mate."

True mate.

Those words hit everyone like thunder.

Clara turned pale.

"You marked me!" she screamed hysterically. "You chose me!"

Magnus snarled. "I chose a lie."

No hesitation.

No pity.

"Take her to the dungeon. She will await her punishment there."

Warriors seized her despite her kicking and screaming.

"You can't do this! My father will—"

"He will do nothing," Magnus cut her off.

"You lost your protection the moment you took her life."

Clara's screams echoed as she was dragged away — her fate sealed.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Silence fell.

Micha collapsed again, sobbing into Kate's arms. Others bowed their heads in sorrow. A few wolves who cared cried openly — even if she was an omega, she didn't deserve this.

Magnus — no, Levi — looked down at Michelle one last time.

"I failed you…" he whispered brokenly.

And deep in the darkest corner of his heart… Magnus prayed that somehow, somewhere...
