Chapter 26 - What do you want to do?

"What's up?" I asked.

On the other end of the phone, there came the lazy voice of Micheal.

"Yesterday's incident has been investigated.

Do you know who did it?"

"James, who else could it be?" I sneered.

Having a former husband like this, I truly feel helpless.

Micheal seemed to chuckle, then said, "You seem to know your husband quite well."

"He's not my husband, he's my ex," I emphasized.

Honestly, I really didn't want to have anything to do with this man, James, anymore.

"So, what do you plan to do?" Micheal asked me.

I knew, Michael was no ordinary guy.

As long as he steps in, there would be numerous ways to make James suffer.

And now, he was asking my opinion.

I didn't know why he was interested in me, or why he would be willing to do this for me.

But with what James has done to me, I certainly won't let it go so easily.

"Whichever way is more ruthless," I said decisively.

If I could, I really wish James could rot in jail.

"Mhm."

Micheal responded softly, acknowledging my reply.

At last, my heart had some ease.

Thinking that I'd be free of James's harassment for a significant period of time, I felt a wave of relief wash over me.

And all of this, I had to thank Michael for.

"Than..." Before I could even finish my sentence of appreciation, from the other side of the phone came the coquettish voice of a woman.

"Micheal, help me pull up my zipper.

I can't get my dress up."

With two beeps, the call ended.

I couldn't help but wonder where Michael was when he called.

Had he just stepped out of a romantic liaison early in the morning, only to rush to deliver the news to me?

I should be happy that he considered matters concerning me of such importance.

Yet, I couldn't bring myself to smile.

Far from it, I felt a sour and astringent feeling in my heart.

Just yesterday, he asked me to be his lover.

I hadn't agreed.

Was it possible that he went back with another woman?

I'm not some naive young girl.

I know what this implies.

The mere thought of it scared me.

Hastily, I shook my head, trying to cast those terrifying notions from my mind.

Micheal and I belong to two separate worlds.

Perhaps I shouldn't have gotten in his car that night.

Then none of what happened yesterday would have.

I can only hope that once this issue with James is resolved, there would be no further entanglements between him and me.

"Whose call was that?

You look all flustered.

Did you just have a heartbreak?" Edwin's voice rang out and only then did I realise that he had awakened at some point.

He was propped up on his side, watching me with curiosity.

"I haven't even been in love, how could I have lost it?"

I rolled my eyes at Edwin and went back to my seat.

Obviously, he didn't know about my affairs.

I didn't know him that well, and there was no need to tell him.

"So what do you think of me?

Would you like to date me?"

His face was full of mischief.

I continued to roll my eyes at him, "Not so much."

With such a spoiled and idle young man, he can afford to play around, I can't afford to mess with.

"How boring."

Edwin pouted his lips, stretched lazily, and then sat opposite me.

"Then let me tell you something interesting.

The board meeting is at ten o'clock in the morning, we have an inspection at the factory in the south of the city at one in the afternoon, a video conference with the American GD company at half-past three, dinner with representatives from Maxwell Group at six in the evening, nine o'clock..."

"Alright, alright, no need to continue, you win."

Edwin flopped down on the table in defeat, looking completely disheartened.

You little brat, you're not even hard to deal with!
