Chapter 25 - Using me as his shield

What's going on here?

It seems like Edwin is using me as a shield again.

But are these two women who showed up at the door that easy to fool?

"Edwin, someone at the company sent me a picture saying you've taken a liking to an ordinary woman, I didn't believe it at first.

But now you've actually brought her home to cohabit with you?

You didn't choose Erica, someone who matches your social status, but instead you like this type of woman, did your brain get waterlogged?!"

The slightly older woman angrily told Edwin.

She had been looking at a photo album earlier, I wondered what she was looking at, turns out it was pictures of me and Edwin.

The Erica she referred to, I guess that's the younger woman here.

I know I'm no match for her, but to defame me in order to lift her own worth, isn't that a little too harsh?

"Mom, what are you saying?

I think Ella is pretty good, she's intelligent, considerate, knows how to cook, and she's not bad looking either."

Edwin said this, and looked at me satisfactorily.

However, I got lost in the first word he said, and I couldn't come back to my senses for a long time.

Mom?

This young woman is actually Edwin's mother?

I've looked at Edwin's information, he is only a year or two older than me, I can't believe his mother had him when she was ten.

All I can say is, wealthy people really know how to maintain themselves.

At least in her forties, she looks about the same age as her son!

As a woman, my own mother looks like she's in her fifties even though she's only in her forties, yet here is someone in her fifties who looks like she's in her thirties, the difference is too stark.

And Edwin's mother, she dropped a bombshell on me.

"As a shareholder of the Global Money Corporation, I'm officially notifying you, you don't have to go to work at Global Money Corporation today.

If you want to climb the social ladder by relying on men, you should look at what you're worth!"

The words that came out of this elegant and noble woman's mouth were harsh to the extreme.

Erica was behind me, a satisfied smile playing around her lips.

"If you dare to fire her, then I'm going to have to liquidate the entire company.

The weather's starting to get colder, and honestly, I don't have much motivation to work.

A two or three month vacation in the Maldives sounds quite pleasant."

As Edwin's hand remained wrapped around my waist, he guided me to sit down on the couch.

His mom and Erica also came in.

Both of them had expressions like thunder.

His mother sat across from us, looking at him incredulously, "For a woman, you're tossing aside the company like it's nothing.

Your dad wasn't wrong when he said that you're a pushover!"

Edwin gave a lazy smile, relaxing entirely upon the couch.

"Always trying to push a pushover, have you ever considered the pushover's feelings?

Maybe the pushover just likes being that way."

Honestly, Edwin right now resembles a pushover.

His unexpected remarks made me want to burst out laughing.

The two across from us weren't as pleased, especially his mother, who was so angry that she stood up, "Are you trying to anger me to death?

I came to see how you were doing.

I didn't expect you to be an ungrateful wolf to say such things!"

His mother pulled Erica along as she stormed out.

Erica looked very unwilling to leave like this, but she couldn't really do anything other than follow Edwin's mother out.

The door was slammed shut heavily, instantly wiping away the frivolous expression Edwin had been wearing.

"Is it really okay to anger your mother like this?"

I asked somewhat concerned.

"It's fine, she's just putting on a show.

She purposely brought Erica along.

She doesn't even like Erica herself, and only came to negotiate with me knowing that you were here.

Think about it.

Can my mother and I have such a deep grudge?"

He got up from the couch and quickly dressed in his room.

As it was already late, without even having the time for a meal, I gave Edwin a ride to the company.

Upon arriving, I bought some food at the building's base; it would have to serve as breakfast for the day.

No sooner had I sat down at my desk that Michael's call came in.

The fact that I had Michael's number wasn't odd.

However, how did he get my number?

Moreover, why was he contacting me?

I glanced over at Edwin, who was asleep on the couch, and moved to a corner to take the call.
