A week had gone by since the first day if Amon's training. By now Amon could keep the spikes levitating for about 40 seconds. Are minimum changes? Of course. Training something directly related to psionics of one's mind is difficult to even make a dent of progress.
The only reason it got this far is due to his special bonus as a Pseudo-Human.
______
(Amon's Pov)
—THUD!
— CLANK!
The spike fell, the noise of it slamming the table and dropped to the floor making a clank as it made contact with the ground.
I found myself having ragged breaths, tired as if I strained both my mind and body simply by making the spike float, which pretty much is what I did. I haven't even begun moving it, yet I still ended up this exhausted.
"42.03 seconds. Impressive. Usually one would take a month to reach that far, yet you achieved such feat in merely a week."
Helios was impressed, but it wasn't enough for me yet. I didn't want small progress, I wanted to go big already!
But I can't rush. Not yet. I might even die before I can begin.
Currently catching my breath, Helios handed me a bottle of water. Seeing as the bottle was like the Carbon Cola's, I quickly remembered how to open it. Pressing the top cap, it then transformed, followed by clinks of metal as it did, into a small bump at the side.
I drank away the water, chugging as much as I could to fill the empty feeling gained after draining my psionic energy.
Seeing as I drained the bottle, I tossed it to Helios who caught it without much trouble. He placed it on the table near him as he sat down and stared at my exhausted figure.
"You're... Unique. I genuinely believed no one could be true prodigies in training the psionics of one's mind. I can't even consider your status as a Pseudo-Human as other experiments stated that there are no such boosts towards them."
Hearing his words, it made me silent. I opened my system, seeing the description beneath the [Race] label.
[Race: Pseudo-Human
- Proficiency with Psionic Pulse and NEXUS increased.]
'Is this what helped?'
I couldn't stop myself from thinking about it. But it would seem that the system shut the thought.
[Negative]
'Then... Why?'
[It is because of the host's body having been enhanced beyond the normal threshold of the Pseudo-Human limits]
I was... Confused. How come?
'I thought I was a simple Pseudo-Human?'
I asked.
[Negative]
[The host is a Pseudo-Human, however, although regarded as an 'ordinary' Pseudo-Human, the body the host possesses had undergone a surgery that increased the proficiency of controlling the psionics of one's mind]
It was... Odd.
Just what surgery did Ezeikel's body go through before I possessed it?
My thoughts were cut off as I heard Helios call me.
"Amon, have you recovered a bit?"
I nodded.
"Good."
That was all he said as he walked back to the table. Seeing that he forgot the place the spike back on the table from the ground, he snapped his fingers and made it fly back.
I stood as I was merely crouching earlier and looked at the spike.
'To level up the NEXUS, what should I do?'
I asked the system.
[The host requires to become proficient in using the NEXUS]
'So until I can I can make it fly around, it won't reach level 2?'
[Affirmative]
I gazed on the system panel a bit more before redirecting my gaze to the spike.
The psionic pulse of the mind starts weak, and the NEXUS makes it evolve rather forcefully. I don't get the concept of even training the psionics of the mind. I usually thought of psionics like those energy things alien used in that one rts game.
But no more secondary thoughts.
I raised my hand a bit and opened my palm. Imagining as if I controlled the spike, I then felt the pressure fall to both my mind and body.
The spike began floating, but that wasn't enough.
I don't care if I had 42 seconds if progress making it float, I want to start with combat soon.
I made the spike fly around me, but it was slow and shaky considering how draining it was. But I wasn't done yet.
The pressure started to feel like a bunch of buildings were squishing me alive. After the spike made a full circle around me, I couldn't keep the control any further and made it drop once more. I stood firm but my body continued shaking due to the pressure that it was fighting against.
Helios stared at me like I was something that shouldn't have been born, his eyes were wide and his mouth agape.
I chuckled at myself. I barely lasted 20 seconds but that's because I made the spike float around me.
"You... What..."
Helios remained stunned.
[Warning]
The system rang.
[Host has pushed the psionic limit of the body]
[Require full rest and body modifications]
'Body Modifications?'
I was rather stunned.
[Affirmative]
[In order to continue brute forcing one's psionics, the host will undergo minor body modifications as he sleeps]
'Wait... Won't they notice?'
I glanced at Helios who seemed to be speaking to someone.
[Negative]
[The process is slow and subtle]
[No one will notice unless they observe deeply by the next day]
Seeing how the system really aims for my well being, I couldn't help but chuckle. Helios soon cut off my thoughts.
"Amon, you don't mind taking a rest for now? I doubt your body can continue training after that."
He said. I nodded in agreement as I practically limped my way back to my room.
I could really become a prodigy that no one knew was possible. My fantasies suddenly don't seem like day dreams anymore!
[Negative]
[The host's daydreams remain unlogical]
AUGH!
"Can't you leave me with my daydreams!?"
[Negative]
[The system aids the host including getting rid of daydreams]
This system—WHY DOES IT SOUND SMUG!?
"One day I'm gonna choke you to death."
I simply stated.
[Not possible]
[The host is unable to choke a system imbed into his mind]
I decided to ignore it and plopped to my bed once I returned to my room. As the door closed, I felt my consciousness drift away once I began to close my eyes.
_________
Amon was fast asleep from the exhaustion of his training.
[Initiating Body Modification...]
The system notified, but Amon remained asleep.
Truly, what is this system? Where did it come from?
