Chapter 12 - Chapter 11: A NEXUS Prodigy?

(Helios' Pov)

I had a firm belief that there was no such thing as a prodigy in controlling the NEXUS.

—VVVVVMMM

Seriously. What fucking child did I just take in?

Amon was making the spike float around like the average Level 2 NEXUS user would. Was he level 2 already?

'Open file.'

Opening Amon's file which updates every hour, I couldn't believe my eyes. Less than 2 weeks. We trained for less than 2 weeks.

[Name: Amon]

[Age: 18]

[Race:Pseudo-Human]

[Fame: —]

[NEXUS Type: Hexacaust]

[NEXUS Lv: 2]

How? Overnight? How did he get to level 2?It takes the average person a whole month of thorough training and study about the NEXUS and the Psionic Pulse to reach level 2.

I could only observe. Everytime Amon made the spike fly around I couldn't help but stare in awe. How did someone get to level 2 so quickly? At this rate I probably won't be surprised if he reaches level 3 by the end of the year.

Well, it wouldn't really matter. But he would undoubtedly be the first one to reach level 3 at 19 years of age.

Seriously, what the hell?

The control of the spike is still in need of polish, it was very wobbly after all.

"Do you feel any more headaches like the previous days?"

I was very curious. Even mild headaches wouldn't be much surprising.

"N-no."

Even he was in shock of how he easily controlled it. Well, still not refined but far more better than the previous days.

... Wait did he say he doesn't get headaches? Ehem, uh... Wait, I'm sure I heard that wrong, definitely.

"T-truly? You don't feel any headaches... At all?"

Seeing Amon shake his head, I felt my professionalism slowly being stripped bit by bit. What monster was I looking at? Am I hallucinating? Is this really a normal Pseudo-Human? I'm pretty sure Pseudo-Humans don't progress this fast, not at all.

Then why...

Before I ended up with a mental breakdown, I took a deep breath and faced Amon.

"Amon... What do you want to do with the NEXUS?"

My voice was firm and my gaze was straightened. This wasn't a simple question. Although one might think that way, that's if they have yet to achieve the NEXUS.

"I want... To fight."

His answer rather surprised me.

"I don't remember anything that I had possibly experienced in this universe... No childhood, no family, no bonds... I feel like an empty husk born with a new soul.

So I want to fight. To learn more of myself and this universe as well!"

His words weren't something an ordinary 18 year old would say. No. Even the wiser ones wouldn't pick 'to fight' as a reason. They'd come up with excuses like 'for my family' or 'to become stronger' or maybe even 'to save the universe' but those are half-assed answers.

But even though Amon's answer of 'to fight' also seemed half-assed, what I was looking for was intent. Would they really do what they wanted?

I never saw the true intent behind the other youngin's I've asked, but Amon's was filled with intent. 'To fight' wasn't just a reason, it's his declaration of saying 'I fucking love fighting and no one will stop me from achieving it.'

I can't believe it at all. Absolutely fucking amazing.

It might be because he's still somewhat messed up in the head with no recollection of his past and just some weird set of memories like that soda thing he mentioned not too long ago.

"Well, combat doesn't seem to be too far of a training option anymore."

I concluded. Seeing Amon's capabilities, this wouldn't be much of a difficult task.

"Really!?"

Amon's eyes sparkled in anticipation. I nodded as a response.

Now let's see what he's capable of.

________

What am I looking at?

"How... How did... Di... Did I... Do?..."

Amon managed to let out between gasps and heavy breaths.

I'll summarize what I saw. A total disaster. It's self explanatory with how unfamiliar he is to NEXUS combat but this was just an absolute disaster...

I stared at the messed up combat room which was large enough to hold a small city if we wished, the mess being every single dummy bots, though intact, was everywhere. Grazed and all, but still intact and are just everywhere in a small portion of the combat room.

"Seriously, you're still getting the hang of controlling your NEXUS so I wanted to give a demonstration first. But because you were so adamant about testing I simply let you. Will you listen now?"

Amon nodded, dejected at realizing his performance was downright dogshit.

"We'll start with the basics first, that being movement. This is a Hexacaust focused training, so the first thing you need to know is how to move your NEXUS gear."

I snapped my fingers and manipulated the spikes he used to completely mess up a small portion of the combat room to orbit around my wrist.

"Before you even think of starting a real combat practice, you also need to know how to move your gear. Unlike Caustals who merely need to know to activate their combat gear and Oxtems with their capabilities of merely controlling command panels for operations, Hexacausts start with moving their NEXUS gear properly. It took me a year and a half to get the hang of it allowing me to reach level 2, so it shouldn't be too hard for you. However, because you practically skipped the process required to be familiar of the movement, we'll have to go back to the very beginning, just for the movement of the NEXUS gear."

Amon nodded at my words.

Seeing him ready, I snapped my fingers again and made the spikes spiral between us.

"Try controlling one and maintain the spiral movement."

Amon tried to control the spike. One of the spikes quickly began to wobble, indicating that he had controlled this particular spike. The speed of the spike was far slower than the other 2 spikes and was shaky. Though it is expected.

There's no need to rush things after all.
