Chapter 20 – The Night of Deception
The night was shrouded in darkness, the moon hidden behind thick clouds. Kiran and his companions moved stealthily, their footsteps quiet on the damp earth. They were a team of shadows, moving unseen and unheard.
Their target was a Syndicate supply depot, located in an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of town. Lyra had received intel that the Syndicate would be transporting a large shipment of arms and ammunition through this depot, and they aimed to intercept it.
As they approached the warehouse, Kiran's senses went on high alert. Something felt off. The air was thick with tension, and he could sense the presence of enemies lurking in the shadows.
Kaelara moved forward, her eyes scanning the perimeter of the warehouse. "I don't see any guards," she whispered. "But that doesn't mean they're not here."
Lyra nodded, her hand on the hilt of her sword. "Let's move in. We'll take out the guards and secure the perimeter."
Kiran nodded, his fire burning brightly within him. He was ready to unleash hell on the Syndicate.
As they crept closer to the warehouse, Kiran's instincts screamed warning. Something was very wrong.
Suddenly, the warehouse doors burst open, and Syndicate soldiers poured out, armed to the teeth. "Ambush!" one of them shouted.
Kiran's fire roared to life, and he unleashed a wave of flames that sent the attackers flying. But there were too many of them, and Kiran's companions were soon surrounded.
"Fall back!" Lyra shouted, her sword flashing in the dim light. "We need to regroup!"
Kiran's heart pounded in his chest as he fought his way through the enemy ranks. He knew they were walking into a trap, but he couldn't see any other way out.
As they retreated, Kiran caught a glimpse of Kaelara's face. For a moment, their eyes locked, and Kiran saw something there that made his blood run cold.
Betrayal.
