Bringing his gaze back to the table, Aster noticed two enormous roasted chickens at the far end of the table.
It was the largest and possibly the juiciest chicken he had ever seen, making him gulp almost instantly.
'In fact, should such a large piece of meat even be called a chicken?'
'I doubt even a whole ostrich is as huge as this.'
'But it smells like chicken so I'm guessing it is, right?'
'Anyways, let's ask.'
"Um, is that a chicken?" Aster asked as he pointed at the two huge meats on the table, and Vivian happily replied.
"Yes, dear, but over here we call them cockatrice."
"It's huge." Lily's eyes dilated as she marveled at how big the cockatrice was.
Vivian giggled at her expression, then added. "And it's delicious too so I'm sure you're going to love it. Alright, everyone. Let's have our seats."
Upon a closer look, Aster was able to get a better view and smell of the tempting golden-brown meat, which glimmered due to a honey glaze, and the scent of garlic and butter filled the air.
Surrounding the two large meats were bowls of fluffy mashed potatoes with a thick gravy made from the cockatrice drippings.
There were also freshly baked flatbreads in baskets for them to eat, along with a variety of vegetables, including roasted purple colored carrots, peppers, and a few other things, which caused Lily's mouth to water unconsciously.
Sara and Cara stood behind some seats, and they beckoned Aster and Lily to sit in their respective seats, which they held out for them.
Aster wondered how both ladies had swiftly made all these dishes within such a short amount of time, but he decided not to think too much about it right now.
Instead, he decided to sit down on the seat Sara held out for him.
"Thank you." Aster thanked her and the beautiful banshee smiled before pushing his seat forward to the food in front of him.
"I hope you enjoy my cooking," Sara whispered in his ear, and Aster answered quietly in return.
"I will."
This caught the beautiful banshee by surprise because she had expected her young prince to still be a little shy around her.
However, he looked a lot more confident than he had a few minutes ago and Sara couldn't help but wonder what had brought about such a change.
Although she was still happy that he replied, so she simply stepped back to give Aster the space he needed to eat his meal comfortably.
To be honest, Aster hadn't expected to have so many varieties of food to choose from.
In fact, he thought that what demons considered food would be something else, like live animals and possibly humans as well.
But to his surprise, it turned out to be a simple meal, similar to what any human would eat, aside for the purple carrots which were only common in some regions back in his world.
Well, he wasn't completely wrong about the fact that demons eat simple meals over here in the supernatural realm, but, if any other human, aside from Aster, had been present in the room, they would have definitely been seeing the true nature of what a demon and a demonic spirit really were.
The only redeeming factor Aster had in comparison to an ordinary human right now was the fact that he had demonic energy flowing within him.
"Can we eat now?" Lily asked with a pout and Vivian nodded in response.
"Yes, and if you want more, just say the word, okay, sweetie? After all, a prince and princess should be given more than a simple meal like this."
'What?'
'Did she just call this a simple meal?' Aster asked in his thoughts, feeling bewildered by her words.
'If this is a simple meal, I wonder what a banquet would look like.'
After being given the go-ahead, everyone began to eat.
Lily swiftly grabbed a small piece of meat from her plate that had been torn and cut neatly by Cara and the little girl's raccoon tail wagged in excitement after taking one bite of the sweet, juicy meat. "Hmmmm…"
She moaned happily at the juicy flavors delighting her taste buds.
Seeing this, Cara couldn't help but smile and Vivian did the same before turning over to Aster.
She watched Aster take a bite of his meat, and as the juicy, perfectly spiced meat practically melted in his mouth, a satisfied smile appeared on his face.
However, since it was still a bit hot, Aster had to roll his tongue around the meat while opening his mouth to allow the cold air to cool the meat, not realising that everyone else in the room was now silently smiling and chuckling at him.
Of course, they tried to remain inconspicuous so as not to make him feel embarrassed for what he did.
But Aster was too engrossed in his food to even notice what was happening around him.
Before he took a bite, Aster hadn't expected the meat to taste so good or feel that hot.
The aroma had smelt nice to him, but he had been uncertain of how it would taste, and to his surprise, it was absolutely delicious.
In fact, it tasted even better than any meat he had ever eaten before.
However, that wasn't the only thing that was delicious on the table, because both the mashed potatoes and the gravy were the best he had ever tasted in years, so he dug in even more as he enjoyed his meal.
Meanwhile, Lily was already halfway through her plate and was also smiling as she devoured the food in front of her.
It turned out that Aster wasn't the only one with a starving stomach at the table, with how much Lily was eating, and Vivian couldn't help but smile when she saw the two of them eating as though they had never tasted something so good before.
Yeah, they probably hadn't and she complimented her two chefs by silently giving them a thumbs up before gesturing for the twins and Hallie to take a seat as well, and everyone sat together to eat with smiles on their faces.
