📘 Chapter 8

Matthias Engel continued to scroll through videos.

Every now and then, he would come across a live stream clip of Lena Morgen playing Pirates of the Caribbean.

Perhaps because he usually watched a lot of gaming content, most of the videos recommended by the system were related to games.

It seemed everyone's feedback on Pirates of the Caribbean was positive, with many people in the comments expressing their desire to play it.

He glanced at the Steam Platform again; sales had already surpassed the eight thousand mark.

Matthias let out a long sigh of relief — his game had been recognized.

As the short video platform's buzz continued, more people would surely come to buy his game.

The ten million debt he carried would likely be repaid through this game.

In a great mood, Matthias went to a restaurant downstairs, this time ordering two dishes—one meat, one vegetable—and a bowl of rice, and began to eat.

It had been a long time since he'd had such home-style cooking, and tasting it now, the flavor was quite good.

At this moment, two young men at the next table were discussing something.

"Did you hear? Last night, Leni played a game called Pirates of the Caribbean. I was watching the live stream too, and the game graphics were just incredible!"

"Really? I haven't heard of this game. Is it really that good?"

"Let me put it this way: I've never seen a game this amazing in my life. You absolutely have to play it."

"298 is a bit expensive. I'll wait and see."

"It's not expensive. If you don't like it, you can get a refund within two hours, but trust me, you won't regret it."

"Alright, we'll go to the internet café later, and I'll buy a copy to try."

As the game developer, Matthias couldn't help but smile as he ate.

He had to thank Lena Morgen, that woman, an esports player for MG Team, and also a champion member of this esports competition.

When she first joined the team, no one had high hopes for her—no, rather, no one had high hopes for women playing esports.

Unexpectedly, Lena swept the competition with her exceptional skill and awareness, correcting people's perceptions of female esports players.

Now, she had gained so many fans, and her unintentional live stream of Matthias's game was what made it a bestseller.

Matthias continued watching videos and then came across a male streamer.

The male streamer was also playing Pirates of the Caribbean.

"I heard Leni Goddess was also playing this game yesterday, and my viewers recommended it to me, so I'm going to try it today."

"Absolutely a great game!"

"Don't be too shocked."

"Go out and paddle, experience the sea!"

Sure enough, this male streamer was stunned after entering the game.

He even covered his head in disbelief: "Is this a game of this century? This is a next-gen game, it's too exaggerated, brothers!"

@LaughingCrew: "Haha, I love how you look when you haven't seen the world."

@SeaWatcher: "We had the same expression when we first watched Leni play."

@LevelGrinder: "I'm already playing, I'm level five."

This male streamer was completely absorbed in the game, with the reflection of the game character in his pupils.

Matthias continued to scroll through videos, coming across many game streamers.

For some streamers who were playing other games, the comments below were recommending Pirates of the Caribbean.

Any streamer who entered the game gave it high praise.

Furthermore, streamers playing this game had higher viewership in their live streams than other channels.

For a time, the popularity of this game was continuously rising.

Meanwhile, at Morgenstern Studios headquarters.

CEO Felix Brandt was chatting and drinking tea with the publisher, a smile on his face.

Just then, his assistant walked in, pale-faced: "Mr. Brandt, a game has gone viral!"

Felix laughed heartily: "Don't be so roundabout. Aren't you talking about our game, Kingdom Adventure? We've already released a trial video, so it's only natural for it to go viral."

"Mr. Brandt, it's not our game."

"Hmm?"

Felix's expression was a little surprised: "If it's not our game, then what game is it?"

"A 3D role-playing game called Pirates of the Caribbean."

"Pirates of the Caribbean?"

Felix looked bewildered. As the boss of Morgenstern Studios, this was the first time he had heard of this game.

"I've long said that 3D games would go viral, which was also our original intention in creating Kingdom Adventure. Facts have proven my idea, so our game needs to be launched as soon as possible."

"Mr. Brandt, there's something not quite right about this game."

"What's not right? Oh, I understand. After all, it's a game made by an unknown creator, so it's understandable if the graphics and content are a bit lacking."

"That's not what I mean, Mr. Brandt. It's that this game is too good."

"Haha, how good could it be? Could it be better than our game's graphics and content? It's just enjoying a period of early success before our game is released, and then it'll be irrelevant."

"Mr. Brandt, here's a video of the game."

The assistant felt that no matter how much he said, it wouldn't be as convincing as a video.

So Felix watched the video on his phone with disdain, which showed a streamer playing Pirates of the Caribbean.

Felix's expression changed from initial disdain to gradually serious, then a frown.

He actively picked up his phone, pausing, playing, pausing, playing.

"Are you sure this isn't an animated film?"

"It's not. Multiple streamers are playing this game, and its sales on the Steam Platform are skyrocketing."

Felix felt a little tingle on his scalp. Just from the streamer's trial video, the game's graphics and action fluidity already far surpassed Kingdom Adventure.

This made Felix's heart sink.

"Which company made this?"

The assistant shook his head: "It's not from a company; it's an individual creator. We don't know who it is yet."

"Contact the Steam Platform and get me that person's information."

"Yes, Mr. Brandt."

Felix immediately returned to his office and opened the Steam Platform.

There was a sales trend ranking, and Pirates of the Caribbean was at the top.

"30G?"

Felix frowned and began to download the game. He wanted to personally see what this game was all about.

A moment later, the assistant brought the information.

"Mr. Brandt, it's an individual creator named Blue Whale. Age unknown, true identity unknown."

"The Steam Platform should require personal identification for registration."

"The Steam Platform said that would violate personal privacy issues, so they didn't provide it."

"Spend more money."

"Money won't work either; they said it's a company's strict policy."

Felix looked speechless, patiently waiting for the game to download.

"What a joke, 30G? I estimate 20G might be cutscenes. How could a game have such a large capacity?"

With a scornful attitude, Felix downloaded the game.

He played for two and a half hours, during which his mindset underwent a drastic change.

The game's content was far more than he imagined, and both the graphics and controls were top-notch.

"Oh no, it's over two hours, I can't get a refund!"

He accidentally played too long. Felix originally didn't want to contribute to this game's sales, but he ended up doing so himself.
