We continued to walk down the tree-lined path until the fields finally came into view. There were far more people out here working than there were on the day of my arrival.
Men, women, and children busied themselves with the harvest, filling straw baskets with a wide variety of fruits and vegetables..
"From what I can see, the harvest looks good this year," I said.
It was fascinating to see all this work done by hand. Before now, I'd only ever read about the plant growth cycle in textbooks. Seeing it in person felt strangely new.
"It does seem to be good. Even from here, I can tell that the size and quality of the fruit is better than usual," he said with a hint of pride.
It had never occurred to me that the Alpha was responsible for the harvests, too. Back home, there was a whole separate department in charge of that, but here, it seemed like he had a lot on his plate.
