Chapter 6 - Chapter Five: Cooperation

"You've grown."

"You haven't aged a day."

"True, it was about ten seconds from then to now. Mistress, what happened?"

"I found the rest of the giants and killed them."

"TODD."

"Yes, BB?"

"Why did we leave her there when we all could've done it earlier?"

The intercom became static before it came back to life.

"None of you could've done it. She needed to grow up fast and to learn some survival skills."

We're a means to an end to the machine. He wrote something down in his journal.

Don't blindly follow orders from the verbally abusive time machine.

"So? Where to next? That was obviously a training mission."

He had some training with Dials and the other kids in martial arts. Though the school didn't approve of it, they made him take more classes. Little did they know he was the only one who could've planned to have his cake and eat it too.

"We're going to the end of the world. Didn't I tell you? You prevent the end of the world."

"I mean a precise time. Is it three years after me or three hundred?"

"Simple, we're going to the twenty third century."

"Could have simply said that."

BB walked to the lounge and found the others talking about themselves. Sears was disassembling his pistol and putting it back together along mumbling about how he lost his favorite knife.

"We need out of here."

"I know we can't trust the machine. I'm a priest for a reason."

Eisenhower thought back to before he became a man of faith. He wasn't a good man. He was nowhere near it. The priest remembered a time when he could have been a good man and when he fought the power of machines.

"How do we get out?"

Alexandria and Mistress came towards the other two. They wanted out. Mistress couldn't figure out why the priest was turning on the machine despite the fact that the priest took her from her family.

"You can start out with why you drugged me and how much you know about this place."

She was looking deeply at the other people in the lounge. It was a long time since she had seen other people, all she had to talk to be her friends of sorts. Those friends were the skeletons of giants she killed and ate.

"Well, the exit is somewhere near the boiler room and the place changes shape every time somebody walks through a door. So, all we can do is wait until we're dropped out somewhere and run free."

"I heard that."

Everyone jumped back at the sound of their keeper.

"Why are we here. And I don't mean to stop the end times. Why did you pick us?"

A robotic laugh went out as chills were in the spines of every man, woman, and child in the lounge.

"Go through the door. My creator made files on one hundred and thirty candidates. Hell, my personality is based off of one of them. Did you know? Of course not, but I'll tell you anyway. Joey was supposed to have a daughter and one of my backup personalities is her. And I don't mean programmed after her, I mean he ripped her soul out through the back of her neck and placed it in my body."

A door to a library opened. Inside was a sign with directions to manage the almost infinite bookcases. They read weirdly. West: psychological profiles, East: physical attributes, North: historical archives, South: personal library.

"We were handpicked."

"He always wanted to see the world and all that it had to offer. The whole, apocalyptic prevention, was always a trojan horse to spend time with his heroes."

"What are we supposed to do now?"

"He had a list of places that he wanted to go to. So, I send you there."

BB could only think about one thing, where will we go when he's done with us? He took some time to write in his journal.

The machine is crazy. Don't trust him by any means.
