When BB got out of bed and walked to the living area, he saw two twelve-year-olds being read a bedtime story for breakfast and a politician trying to get beans out of a vending machine. The TODD was talking with an angry teenager as a priest was using a punching bag. The living area was weird, it wasn't like a normal living area in an office or house where you have tv's and a pinball machine if you were eccentric, it had everything. But all BB could focus on was getting these weird eyes out of his head. All he could see were people screaming in pain but when he talked with Sears whilst he was reading, he saw a peaceful ending. It said, sixty-two years, nine months, three weeks, two hours, fourteen minutes, twenty-two seconds, blood clots in the brain brought on by previous brain damage.
"Our next stop is Guam."
"Why are we going to Guam?"
BB sat and found a stack of jam jars where there was once cereal. He opened one up and began to feast on the jam. He was hungry. Who wouldn't be after being drafted into a group of time travelers. In the background was the yelling of Joey but the calmness in Sears's voice. What a crazy man.
"Guam is where an apocalypse of which giants will destroy the island."
The two went on angrily yelling at one another until Sears pitched in his suggestion.
"Stop yelling during story time and I won't have to choke you out again."
Joey was promptly shut up before he finished the story. The girls may have been too old for story time by today's standards, but Alexandria was fascinated by them and was less mature than the average person and the little girl from space was less intelligent than her peers because of the fact that her kind lived longer and thus learned slower.
"Do you know anything about stealth, Mr. Sears?"
"Yes, I once worked for a magical, all-seeing bureaucracy called the CIA."
"Woah. I want to work there when I come of age."
"Ha, no you don't. I still see Baghdad when I close my eyes."
"Isn't that in Iraq?"
"Huh?"
Sears turned to BB.
"Baghdad is in Iraq, and you were saying something about working in Vietnam."
Sears worked everywhere. Sometimes he was in active warzones and other times it was fewer active warzones.
"Uh huh."
He seemed embarrassed by BB's comment. It was a false comment by BB as he was in Baghdad, and he was also in Vietnam.
"We've landed in Guam. Please find anyone over eight feet tall as a threat. Your job here is to kill every giant before they move off the island."
A semi-automatic rifle appeared in the place of the story book, a dagger appeared in Alexandria's hand, and a pipe wrench was in Joey's hand.
"Is there anything we can do about this without the risk of death?"
"My creator programmed me to create a cinematic way of preventing the end times. You should know something about obeying your creators, Eisenhower."
Joey was thrown out of the machine via a trapdoor appearing right under him whilst the kids and Sears went out through a normal door. Eisenhower flew through a door that appeared next to his punching bag. Scott followed suit via ramming into the punching bag doorway.
"Where are we?"
"Seriously? We're in Guam."
A creature that looked a mix of spider and a human rammed through a beautiful beach towards them. Sears acted first via firing rapidly at his enemy. The bullets slowed the beast down before the little alien girl used the power of her mind to make the giant fall to the ground.
"I guess we should finish it off."
Eisenhower and Scott began to kill the monster with bullets. Eisenhower's pistol did more as it was more advanced.
"Me and the little one will scout ahead. Stay on the beach and try to make do with what you got."
Sears and Alexandria wandered off into the thick woods. Though, there weren't just woods, there were beasts that stood at least twelve feet tall. It was like they were blind with how aimlessly they walked.
"Sneak behind him. Cut his Achilles tendon and I'll finish off the other one. You know the rest."
The general figured that if there were giant ones, that meant these were kids. A popular thing in nature is making sure the kids survive. A silent take down would be effective. Alexandria snuck her way over to the beast that looked like a mix of slug and man as it had a shell on his back.
"Hello, how are you?"
"Have a great day."
The monsters, not being fully grown, were figuring out words to say into making their prey come near. Sears acted first. A bowie knife was thrown into the left eye of the monster near him. It didn't even react. Those weren't eyes, same as those eyes on a butterfly's wings aren't actually eyes. The beast squealed for help before its hands burst into worms whilst the other one for Alexandria charged her mentor. Sears, like any normal person, went onto wrestle the beast before him. He was raised on a military base as a child soldier. Fighting bigger people were normal. Suddenly, Joey was right behind the one that Alexandria was supposed to kill. He moved his right hand fast and threw the creature ten feet back. A loud THUMP sound rang out as the thing's skull smashed against a rock.
"Why are you here?"
Using his assault rifle as a blunt weapon, he beat the monster back and smashed in a good part of his head. What was really odd was, the soldier was making a conversation with the teenager whilst using a mix of gunplay and hand to hand combat on the monster.
"Do you want some help with that?"
"No. Alexandria, why didn't you follow my signal?"
He grabbed the monster's left arm and threw it over his shoulder. The beast was finished off with three bullets to the skull and five to the chest.
"You work too fast."
"Okay, I'll give you some slack for that. You must be new to this. Work fast on these things."
"Yes sir."
"Please, call me Sears."
The others came past the trees and saw that Joey had somehow gone past the group and into the heat of battle despite nobody ever actually seeing him go there. BB couldn't help but ponder. He must have some kind of speed ability. Perhaps we just simply didn't pay attention. No, he was right in front of me and I was watching him get hit with a prius because it was funny.
"How did you do that?"
"I make time stop."
On top of being a young man that could easily pick a phone booth out of the ground and throw it, he could make time stop.
"Is it possible that it's just overloaded slowing?"
"No, I've tried that. Longest I could ever pause time for was a minute."
"And when was that?"
"Right now."
A note fell from the sky and an unnatural breeze came by. It smelled like office space. Sears picked up the note and read it.
"There are eight more ants. Get back to work. You can have some food later."
"What?"
"My bad, I'm dyslexic."
Alexandria couldn't understand what he was saying, and the little alien girl was busy trying to comprehend this place. Now she was wondering about what to do now that she wasn't under her father's thumb. He wasn't smart, that was for sure. But her father was also controlling as she never saw any life outside of the manor.
"Hello everyone."
The magic castle appeared.
"What?"
"I need everyone to get into the time machine and need the little one to stand on that rock over there."
Everyone complied. Soon, an automatic door closed, and they reappeared, twelve years later. The sound of TODD laughing a cold, robotic laugh went through the intercom.
"What did you do?"
"Well, she was a liability as a child. Now, we've returned, she's stronger, more competent, and a adult with full thinking skills."
The new girl walked in.
"What's your name?"
"The locals call her the Mystery Mistress."
BB was a little shocked. He got out his journal and began to write in it.
This place is odd.
It feels weird.
It feels like... home.
